Glass Smash Made Easy

There are a number of disastrous scenarios in which you might need to escape the inside of a bus. Currently, exit points are generally limited to the front and rear doors so it is occasionally necessary to break a window, however, it can be difficult. The Corner Breaker is one simple, smart solution that makes it easy to break a window in emergency situations. By pulling the handle, and then releasing it, the elasticity of the returning spring provides the strength to break the window. To make sure this mechanism is not carelessly used, an alarm sounds whenever the handle is pulled. In this way, breaking windows in an emergency is intuitive, safe and requires less effort. It’s particularly useful for children or the elderly who may lack strength to break a normal window.

The Corner Breaker is a 2015 Red Dot Concept Award winner.

Proof that whales are ‘cool’ creatures!

air_whale_1

A major part of the green design movement involves minimizing waste by recycling it. Most people think of waste in terms of things you throw in the trash, however even something like water can get easily wasted. Water that drips out of air conditioners is actually a golden resource that tends to get wasted. Air Whale does a brilliant job of putting that water to good use. What it does is, it collects the water, filters it, and sprays a mist right near the air conditioner’s outlets. This mist, when cooled by the AC’s air helps cooling down the room even faster! A wonderful way to use waste water, and a brilliant metaphor with the whale bit! Don’t you think??

The Air Whale is a winner of the Red Dot Design Award for the year 2015.

Foreign Coins Get A Good Purpose

My recent travels took me to Milan, Singapore and Dubai and I totally get how annoying loose change can be. They are a big amount if I convert them to the Indian Rupee but petty to spend otherwise, and no money exchanger will convert it for me. The Add Up is a concept that addresses this desperate scenario that most foreign travelers are faced with. The exchange box takes in your foreign coins and converts the amount to your domestic currency. This amount can be then transferred to your phone account as a credit or added as Skype points.

There is another important aspect to this exchange box, whenever you convert your coins; there is a decimal remainder that needs to be rounded off. Add Up automatically transfers this micro exchange to a registered charity of your choice.

After the currency is exchanged, there are often a few digits after the decimal point. The system will automatically round down the number and donate the small remainder as a micro-donation. When such a small amount is multiplied by over two billion – the world’s annual number of travelers – a massive difference can be made to society.

Add Up is a 2012 red dot award: design concept winning entry.
