It puts us in the right mindset, helping us achieve our daily productivity goals and checkmark all the tasks on our to-do list! Not only should our desks be clean, but they should also sport an ergonomic and functional design! And if a desk has some storage space as well, it checks all the boxes for us. 1. Diag Desk

Why is it noteworthy?

The front inlay is an element of the drawers, and they are used to open them. The angular sides can accommodate office accessories like scissors, staplers, and pens. The desk can also store your mobile phone, tablet, and other media devices allowing you to easily reach them.

Named the DEN Desk, this innovative desk design is truly one-of-a-kind. You can build your desk just the way you like it, but playing around with it, and creating the desk design that perfectly meets your needs. The unique design makes you feel as if you’re playing with LEGO, but you’re building a furniture piece!

Why is it noteworthy?

You can start with the most basic setup and then grow your desk by adding other parts or accessories, from monitor mounts to even a cabinet on the side. You can slot in a desktop at an angle, and build a corner desk if you like!

What we like

5. Nice Chair

I love the Nice Chair, because it is not simply a chair, it is also a desk that you can rock back and forth! It is designed to occupy minimum space, and it can be easily assembled and disassembled, it also rocks you back and forth, giving a smooth and enjoyable motion to break the lull of a boring workday.

Why is it noteworthy?

The Nice Chair can function as an ordinary chair to sit on, or as a rocker that moves back and forth. The rounded bottom edges of the chair enable it to rock back and forth, creating a mesmerizing lull that can guide anyone to sleep. You can also slide a tabletop between the ridges on the arms of the chair, to convert it into a workspace, that can hold and store your work accessories.

Not another transforming furniture—that is probably your initial reaction upon learning about the ASYTRON. Even the name is very Transformers, but you will probably love its mechanism like most furniture pieces with similar inspiration.

The Asytron is a lightweight transforming furniture item designed by two industrial designers from Germany. This mobile workspace is made using a light construction method. The design aims to solve several issues digital nomads face and those that spend most of their long hours in the home office or a coworking space.

There are a lot of related products and concepts, so shopping for the proper workstation can be a challenge. A mobile workspace shouldn’t just be portable as it should really work for the user. It should be sturdy enough for frequent relocation and with frequent assembly and disassembly.

As described by the designers, the Asytron comes with a cushioning formation inspired by those automotive racing seats. It is ergonomic, lightweight, and rigid. It’s modular so you can combine the pieces. It’s ergonomic too with the lumbar support and a notch for the spine. There is also a hinge that easily swings and folds.

Only parents of young kids will know the challenge of having an organized home. No, we’re not just talking about the need for an organized playroom but the whole house. Toys are everywhere, whether in the living room, bedroom, kitchen, or even the bathroom.

Young kids can be a reason for a disorganized home, but parents have no excuse because there are available solutions. Keeping a tidy home is essential, especially during these stressful days brought upon by the pandemic. Simply a ‘good’ desk won’t do either. A great desk helps us work comfortably and effectively. It puts us in the right mindset, helping us achieve our daily productivity goals and checkmark all the tasks on our to-do list! Not only should our desks be clean, but they should also sport an ergonomic and functional design! And good looks are an added bonus. And finding a desk that does all of the above can be a Herculean task. But worry not! Aptly named, Bars is a modern desk that finds multiple uses through an overlapping system of wooden bars. Designed to help organize our work and off days, the system of bars provides clever, integrated storage options to keep our writing utensils and smartphones in designated areas and keep our working space free of clutter. Carved along each one of the wooden beams, Teixeira incorporated narrow, sunken storage bins that are just the right size to keep our erasers, pens, and stationery.

Propped up on top of four sawhorse legs, the Note Desk keeps a minimal profile, trading a loud personality for a durable and quality build. Entirely constructed from wood, the Note Desk has a traditional shape, with a spacious flat top surface that merges with a back panel for added functional elements. The back panel is outfitted with short shelves and a felt tack board ideal for calendar reminders and Post-It notes, making it a suitable choice for office workers and artists alike. Conceptualized in an array of different colors, the Note Desk’s wooden build is envisioned as stained ebony, deep chocolate brown, as well as a natural wooden look.

Meet Blis, a minimalistic office desk centered on the friendly, warm, and homely element – keeping in mind that it’s going to adorn your living space. The metal fixtures used to connect the wooden columns and support the glass panel were created using a process called generative design. Built by algorithms, the metal element’s organic design was arrived at by simply feeding inputs and information into the CAD software, and allowing it to create a form that was strong enough to take on high loads, while using as little material as possible. If the metallic fixtures look even remotely organic (like bones), it isn’t an accident… generative design relies on the same principles that guide natural evolution, by building something that is purely designed to be functional and durable.

Created from a combination of wood, plastic, and metal, Sipario is a compact furniture piece that can transform into a workstation that not only offers privacy but reduces noise as well. It was created to provide a more flexible means of working, and it does exactly that! It comprises of wooden strips that are in fact bendable! When kept open, Sipario functions as an open wall-mounted work desk, that occupies minimum space, while providing you with a comfortable nook to work in. However, when the strips are bent, Sipario transforms into a more personal and private workspace. In fact, the gaps in between the bendable wooden strips contain a layer of sound-absorbing fabric, that reduces noise and creates a peaceful and quiet environment that is conducive to your daily productivity. It allows users to pick and choose between an open and a more private home office, without making the process too complex or complicated.

Sustainable furniture design studio Ori adds a WFH apparatus called the Cloud Bed to the mix, merging an office and desk setup with a cantilevered lofted bed that descends to the floor to really hone in the mutability of working from home. In its initial form, the Cloud Bed features a working desk and table beneath a lofted bed. Built for hospitality interiors and personal spaces, this space-saving work from home solution was designed to cover a small footprint inside the home. UL certified to ensure the bed remains lofted and close to the ceiling during working hours, the desk area folds into itself, merging with the floor as the bed descends from its raised position. While it might be tempting to hop up to the top of the bunk bed and sleep from such a high height, the Cloud Bed, Table Edition comes equipped with an internal mechanism that lowers the bed to the floor once the workday is done. With the push of a button, the mattress and wooden bed frame lower down from its elevated post in time with the desk folding inwards toward the floor.

The Layout desk is a multifunctional workspace that comes with various entertainment and work modules to blur the line between WFH and play. Inspired by the blurring of work and play in WFH spaces, Juwon Kim, Jiwon Song, and Eunsang Lee framed Layout with a translucent, corrugated exterior finish that immediately catches the eye. Wrapped in sea green, the Layout desk is modular by design to incorporate a plethora of different work and entertainment features. The Layout desk is topped off with an upper cover that’s designed to conceal the workspace after the workday’s done.

The Piano desk gives that traditional design a nod by incorporating it into your familiar wooden desk with some additional inspiration from the Standard chair by Jean Prouvé that elevates the minimal piece. The Piano desk was created so the designer could experiment with a hybrid material selection and play with interesting visual contrasts. On the one hand, we have metal which is a cold material that is beautifully balanced by the warmer wood. On the other hand, the same metal which allows for a slimmer silhouette is given the sturdiness with the addition of wood. The key factor in the briefing was to design a product with a democratic approach. That is how the minimal desk without any complex production processes was born while still featuring a small design element that other minimal desks didn’t have – the dipped shelf!

Characterized by sleek fly-lines and smooth curves, Porsche is known for embedding their automobiles with the same sense of luxury that laps their front doors and grille. Enhancing the desk’s luxe design, Enchev integrated a capacitive sensor touch screen into the desk to control the main Dell computer desktop, functioning as both a keyboard and control panel. The Dell computer spans almost a quarter of the desk, jutting from its mainframe to lengthen the desktop’s screen width. Then additional control systems punctuate this desk from the future, including a touch mouse pad and what appears as an upright landline telephone in stainless steel.

The OnPlayOff is a conference table that lets you brainstorm/ work during the day and becomes your playground for some post office hours fun. Meet the feature that allows it all – a height-adjustable net that rotates into the table using a crank on one side. The table showcases a very Japandi-inspired, aesthetically pleasing wooden table for the work ambiance. Around four people can work on the table with their laptops without any issues at any given time.

Grown on Me is a collection of tables and desks with integrated cylindrical planters for greenery to sprout out of and grow. Outfitting our office and living spaces with lots of plant life gives each room a whole new personality. Plants help remove toxins from the air we breathe, brighten rooms that are already filled with sunlight, and bring life to our living areas even when no one’s in them. By integrating planters into its legs, design and research studio After Architecture constructed Grow on Me, a collection of tables with built-in, cylindrical planters to bring the garden to any room and office space.

Area Flip is a refreshing mobile office desk PC with a multi-screen setup that is designed to emphasize seamless workflow, interaction, and flexible private working zones. In a typical office setup with desktops as workstations, your portability is limited by the partitions and the wires that clutter but keep you connected. This also leads to a standardized working environment which can get monotonous with time. This problem demands a solution like the Area Flip which maximizes the mobility of the work environment. The Area Flip does this by transforming into a portable desktop, a presentation screen (vertical), or a flat (horizontal) screen for a lying board/screen that allows the people to collaborate better.

Merging the outdoors with the indoors, the Bridge is a work-desk accessory that adds greenery to your workplace. Quite literally a breath of fresh air when it comes to furniture design, the accessory sits on top of any open desk design, occupying the ‘no man’s land’ in between opposing workstations, and comes with a channel on top that’s designed to house an entire row of indoor plants. The Bridge builds on the increasingly popular idea of an open office and a collaborative workspace (as opposed to compartmentalized cabin spaces). It’s entirely made from plywood and can be flat-packed to a location and assembled on spot. Taking us back into the 19th-century households, a designer has conceived a contemporary version of the pre-modern day desk, called the Floor Desk, that by the mere look instantly reminds us of the era it belongs to. The desk constructed with a combination of high-end wooden material is distinguished by its appearance and exquisite details that celebrate the urbaneness of the ancient-style desk. The young Korean designer behind the rendition, informs that a desk in the 19th century catered as a tool for reading and writing. Since the rooms at home were usually small, the desks were made low and small to not look overwhelming in the room. The desks back then were more like chests with storage under the tabletop.

Designed to be set up and used anywhere, it gives you the flexibility and freedom to work from practically anywhere with the discipline and infrastructure you need to stay productive… and if you want to shift positions, just carry the table with your laptop to another location! The Remotable’s portable design is championed by its relatively simple construction, consisting of a telescopic pole that allows you to adjust the table’s height (shifting from a sitting to a standing desk) and even acts as a grip for you to carry it around.

CableTread, a standing desk with a built-in cable organizer was conceived with San Francisco-based e.ventures, where Tom Gielselmann recruited Nick Allen to develop a “circuit-board desk.” A clever reinterpretation of the circuit board’s purpose, it makes sense that the organizational scheme for CableTread’s underbelly mimics the electric roadways of circuit boards since both seem to make some sense out of an intimidating mess. The gut of CableTread, the underside of the standing desk, also carries an embedded Mac Mini, two defined mounts for USB accessories, a power strip with six feet worth of cord extension, cable slack management, and a flush mount heigh control assist button, all in addition to the desk’s physical wireframing.

Recognizing the multiple issues that arise with artists, specifically designers, and their desks, Long Chan constructed Lift, a desk that can adjust to meet your needs. From the right angle, Lift almost appears like a heavy-duty, oversized wooden TV tray table, but looking at it head-on, it’s rectified as the designer’s workstation. While my days spent eating chicken noodle soup on a TV tray table while watching Cartoon Network are over, Lift utilizes a sliding mechanism that echoes the same one as the iconic living room staple from yesteryear. In order to assume different shapes, Lift depends on two sliding wooden pegs on both sides. The sliding wooden pegs on Lift’s front legs lower the desk’s working space to assume the shape of a traditional writing desk, with additional storage space is made available in the process, similar to that of a traditional secretary desk.

Balance is a multi-functional desk that an creates organized, personalized, and productive work experience. Characterized by sleek fly-lines and smooth curves, Porsche is known for embedding their automobiles with the same sense of luxury that laps their front doors and grille. Enhancing the desk’s luxe design, Enchev integrated a capacitive sensor touch screen into the desk to control the main Dell computer desktop, functioning as both a keyboard and control panel. The Dell computer spans almost a quarter of the desk, jutting from its mainframe to lengthen the desktop’s screen width. Then additional control systems punctuate this desk from the future, including a touch mouse pad and what appears as an upright landline telephone in stainless steel.

To construct a desk that accommodates this mode of working from home while sticking to this renewed wave of minimalism, João Teixeira designed Loop Desk, a simple computer desk that’s built for the organizing nut in each of us. The two-tiered desktop has plenty of working space and a slim build that easily adapts to any room, making it a solid choice for future WFH renovations. In addition to its slim build, Loop Desk reflects a minimalist aesthetic that feels more sophisticated than stylish or trendy. With rounded edges and a monitor stand that hovers above the main working space, Loop Desk was named for the various loops that comprise its full-frame. Computer monitors can be placed on Loop Desk’s tallest working tier, while a keyboard and any other working material can be organized on the desktop’s main working area.

The DropTop fold-down desk is packed with everything needed for a hard day at the home office and can be stylishly stowed away behind a photo or artwork when knock-off time arrives. We are seeking a healthy work-life balance more than ever. We are spending more time than ever working from home. We are all relearning what it means to be productive. Pith & Stem describes its DropTop workstation as fully integrated and plug-and-play ready, meaning that it comes kitted out with a pair of 24-inch full-HD monitors and USB/USB-C cables for charging and connecting to Windows and Mac laptops. Beneath these monitors are two storage areas for said laptops or other odds and ends. The workstation itself is made from thick birch plywood that can be finished in either black or white satin, with the front folding down to form a desk measuring 120 x 60 cm (47 x 24 in) that is held in place by custom hinges, which appear to be rather strong.

Designed by UFOU Design Inc, the height of the desk can be freely adjusted from 650mm to 1300m, so it’s suitable for everyone, whether child or adult! It doesn’t matter how tall you are, you can easily customize the modular desk to suit your height and posture. No more straining your neck, because a desk is too short for you (I’m 5’11 and I struggle with this ALL the time). The tray can be extended up to 150mm, and the flip angle lockable from 0 to 35 degrees. All these intriguing features let you work while sitting or standing and make it suitable for a variety of activities from reading, writing, drawing to working on your laptop.

Frame CPH, a design team based in Copenhagen, recently debuted LastDesk, a modular desk that you can design yourself to unlock your ideal workspace. The aim was to create a desk that can easily adapt to today’s ever-changing technological and remote working developments. The desk itself is a classic interpretation of Scandinavian design, but it offers a more accessible approach to minimalism through the desk’s modular features. While the frame of LastDesk is as simple a frame as they come, the desktop comes equipped with changeable wooden trays and flat, slate gray slabs that can either provide extra storage for your workspace, a wireless charging station, or a means to rid your workspace of any unnecessary clutter.

Working from home has made us all realize the importance of having a desk and one that actually makes being productive easy! Balance is a desk that was designed for helping you ‘balance’ your everyday life with work. Balance means to keep or bring equilibrium and this design does exactly that by encouraging time away from your screens and creating a more physical connection with your surroundings.

The team wanted to inspire young people to work hard and play hard – a desk that encouraged finding a balance between digital and analog environments. “The idea behind Balance product is to use digital interfaces as inspiration to create a new hybrid experience for the user. The form and modular qualities of the design evoke the digital touchscreen interfaces we use every day but with a tridimensional layer that creates a tactile and tangible experience. This new approach brings builds a bridge between the connectivity and structure of the digital environment and the visual and physical experience of products,” explains the designer duo.

Th desk’s canvas is made from high-impact polystyrene and powder-coated steel for a rigid, magnetic, and durable surface to hold the modules. The modules are made from injection-molded HDPE giving them adequate rigidity for the structure, softness to the touch, and satin finish. Balance also lets you customize the finishes/accents with a choice of walnut, oak, and cork. Some finishes use special magnetic paint for a marker-friendly writing surface.

There was a lot of research that went into Balance’s design – the personality, work environments, and workflows of various people in their respective jobs as well as a variety of productivity and work management techniques were studied. The team also analyzed different physical and digital interfaces to understand what products were more effective, easy to use, and popular among people. This final outcome resulted in a product that is flexible, organized, modular, easy to use, and personalized!

Ever since work from home became the new norm, I’ve truly been realizing the importance of a great home office! Our home office should possess a nurturing environment that amps up our productivity and efficiency. And one very important element of such an environment is our desk! A good desk helps us work comfortably and effectively. Not only should our desks be clean, but they should also sport an ergonomic design! The Ash Desk by Pavel Vetrov is one such prime example.

It provides privacy, and functions as a personal cubicle of your own, no matter where you place it. Vetrov’s Ash is attention-grabbing, but definitely not loud! It just feels right.

Almost all of us are working from home, and we’re always looking out for various ways to brighten up our boring home office situation. Though we may not be able to provide a change of environment for ourselves, how about a change in furniture? An innovative and intriguing work desk can prove to be highly functional, comfortable, as well as a delight to work on. A desk can determine our attitude towards work, as well as the course of our workday. Hence, we’ve curated a collection of super functional and fun desk designs to to make your work from home situation more enjoyable!

Meet the ‘Chaise Renversée’ – a desk that can also transform into a long chair by the famous French architect Pierre-Louis Gerlier. The literal translation of Chaise Renversée is ‘chair overturned’, I love how simply the French put everything. Since we are all cooped up in our homes, we are constantly finding ways to optimize space. Especially if you live in a city, you are likely to have everyday objects that are modular so that you have a functional space. Our current situation and the need to be flexible within a small space is exactly what inspired Gerlier to design the Chaise Renversée. It is the perfect blend of work from home and Netflix from home into one piece of modern furniture, it provides a stable table area to work and can then transform into the ‘Chaise Lounge’ when you want to relax.

This desk by Yeg Design Studio is called Clock and I want you to keep that in mind for the rest of this story. Clock was designed to be compact and fit in the growing trend of smaller living spaces. The designer wanted to create something that seamlessly blended into our workdays (especially when working from home!) without disrupting our office hours or eating habits. The hybrid station converts food waste into energy to power itself wirelessly but also includes the systems to be plugged into a wall if needed. It is an innovative product that combines technology and functionality to sustainably manage waste and encourage more people to shift to natural/renewable energy sources.

The Pill Writing Desk by Emco really challenges a lot of fundamental notions of desk-design, if it were. With an unusual shape that’s eye-catching when closed and functional when open, the Pill manages to behave like furniture but looks a little like minimalist art. The circular desk comes firmly wall-mounted, which makes it comparable to a wall-hung painting rather than a 4-legged floor-resting desk. The desk’s pill-inspired design is divided into three units. The upper semicircle serves as a writing space with enough storage for your belongings (including your laptop), while the lower quadrants act as a pair of cabinets for other items you may need to store.

Titled the Work/Sleep Balance, this morphing piece of home decor is ideal for tiny apartments, serving two purposes within a small footprint. The desk top is large enough to accommodate most of your work accouterments, while the cabinet on the side features a collapsible tri-axial bed frame that opens up to become a base for the mattress, which rolls right up and slides into a compartment in the desk’s back. The transformation takes around 2-3 minutes, allowing you to efficiently use your space to work during the day, and catch some shut-eye during the night!

The Shelter desk is a project that is coming to life because the designer was on a quest for the perfect desk. If you are someone who loves to have a clean, organized, clutter-free desk then this is the one for you! It was designed keeping in mind all the devices, wires, and accessories that live on our workstations, however, Shelter still remains minimal while maximizing the value of a desk. There are three slim drawers on the front side that are big enough to store your gadgets, like tablets or laptops. The back drawer was designed for you to hide all your cables and chargers. But the beauty of this desk lies in the curved drawers that give this desk its fluidity while retaining the functionality of the design.

Elmer looks like a simple storage cabinet, and though it is one, it also doubles up as a desk! The multifunctional piece primarily showcases a lot of iRESISTUB’s metalwork, with a sturdy black metal frame and two long metal legs. A squarish wooden door with rounded edges occupies the portion above the legs. When the door is shut, Elmer looks like a regular cabinet, upon which you can place miscellaneous items. However, once you open it, it reveals spacious storage space, with the door functioning as a neat little desk. Within the compact storage area, you can place your books, stationery items, folders, and maybe even a tiny plant or two! The working surface is large enough to accommodate a laptop, books, or other documents.

The Terrarium Desk is a wall-mounted desktop that integrates a removable plant terrarium, providing a mental respite for those of us in need. Round’s design is wall-mountable and incorporates plenty of storage space for clutter that would otherwise claim space on our desktops. At the desk’s focal point, Round placed his glass terrarium, which includes a warm light for cozy night viewings or brighter workspaces during the day. While the light can be dimmed, the terrarium itself is always in sight, whether the desk is opened or closed. When closed, the desk’s minimal front face hinges at and displays the plant life inside the terrarium. When opened, the desk’s terrarium promotes your focus by stimulating brain function and emitting oxygen as well as positive carbons.

This desk design by Alejandro Sticotti in partnership with Sudacas is a workstation harmoniously rolled into a spacious shelving system. A clean wooden station serves as a desk, whereas a ladder-like shelving unit rising above and below the desk, functions as a storage space for your books, magazines, stationery, and other miscellaneous items. Minimal and delicate, I wouldn’t mind this desk in my work from home office!

The rustic, artist-in-studio appeal of DUAL hits home with the wooden chair’s natural pine finish and stainless steel stool attachment, offering a finished look that is both familiar and clean. The overall function of the chair is relatively easy to understand. When the stool attachment is stacked on top of the chair, the backrest can rise to its highest position to offer optimal support for your posture. The chair’s seat comes equipped with notches that coincide with and frame the stool attachment’s legs for easy stacking and the extra space between the chair’s seat and the stool attachment also functions as storage space for things like your laptop or lunch bag. In order for the user to transform the chair into a desk setup, complete with a table and chair, then the stool attachment simply slides into the largest cavity on the chair’s seat. With the stool attachment securely positioned in front of and attached to the chair, the backrest also slides down to meet the user’s new seated height.
