Spiral Storage Tray concept shows a minimalist way of organizing small things

The table near the door to my apartment is witness to the fact that I have a lot of stuff. Whenever I enter the house, I dump some of my stuff there for easy access to when I need to leave. But over the months, it has accumulated a lot of small things that I forget to put away or bring with me. As a hoarder and also a naturally messy and lazy person, it’s really hard to organize all these things. So I need all the help I can get, including organizing accessories and furniture.

Designer Name: Ping-Lun Chung

This concept for a Spiral Storage Tray is a pretty simple and minimalist idea but one that can be helpful to people like me eventually. The basic idea is that it is just a simple, circular tray but you get a spiral storage. This way you can compartmentalize little things like coins, keys, eyeglasses, medicine, and other small items that you may need to have easy access to when entering or leaving the house. It’s meant to be placed in the tables located in the entryways of houses or apartments.

The design isn’t that complicated. The base is a small round disk and then you have two semicircular pieces of wood placed on top to create the “compartments” to separate your small items. There is even a hidden spiral compartment if you need to place small items that you want to conceal for some reason. Knowing me though, I’ll probably forget that I placed something there which means I may get a surprise or two when I decide to clean the tray by lifting up the top pieces.

The “seamless, continuous spiral surface” that we see in the rdners actually looks pretty satisfying. The renders show different wooden textures and colors for the Spiral Storage Tray so we may get different options if it gets turned into an actual product. Who knows, because of this I might actually start organizing my table in my entryway?

Plant-inspired desk accessories bring a sense of calm to your work life

There are plenty of tips and pieces of advice on how to decrease stress levels at work, particularly on your desk. Keep your workspace clean and tidy, put objects and pictures that inspire, and add green plants that remind you to take breaks and live. The latter, however, isn’t always possible in all environments, and some might not be too keen on the added responsibility of keeping that plant alive, even if it’s a succulent. That’s not to say you have to give up the benefits of having some green on your desk, especially not with this collection of accessory concept designs that try to bring life to your work by taking inspiration from Nature’s miracle workers.

Designers: Gahnghyun Yi, Jiwon Lee, Chaeyeon Ha

Plants have long been a source of inspiration for creators of all disciplines, including scientists, engineers, architects, and, of course, designers. The natural beauty these silent creatures possess is surprisingly not that easy to recreate, but we can easily distill the essence of their forms and translate them into designs that hold meaning in our lives. These desk accessories, for example, try to nudge your mind to think about real greenery, eliciting the same emotions of peacefulness, calm, and relaxation that a plant would bring if it were actually standing on your desk.

It’s not a literal imitation, of course; just an interpretation of the basic forms and shapes that plants possess. The Greenery Pencil Holder, for example, is a cylinder with a curved plate partially wrapped around it at an angle, almost like a bamboo stem with a leaf growing out of it. This “leaf” actually functions as a container as well, creating two spaces to place your pens, pencils, and other long stationery tools.

The Greenery Clock is a bit more abstract in comparison, with a stem that curves upward and a leaf that droops down from the top, forming a minimalist digital clock. There is actually a second leaf that’s less visible since it’s lying flat on the desk, creating a space to put small items on. The latter design is repeated in the Greenery Tray with two horizontal “leaves” providing the same flat container. What makes it different, other than the lack of a clock, are the elongated “stems” that act as a hook for hanging key rings and other items.

The Greenery Cable Holder is admittedly a bit of a stretch to imagine as leaves growing on a leaf vein. After all, it’s just a set of circles with cutouts for inserting a cable. One side of the circle is flat, allowing the cable holder to be stuck on desks or walls. With this set, you can add some green hues to your desk without sacrificing space, deriving both utility and aesthetic from simple designs, thanks to some inspiration from Mother Nature.

Wav is a handsome desk tray that proudly puts your stationery on display

It’s too easy for clean and tidy desks to turn into a messy nightmare if things don’t have a proper place for them to call home. Desk organizers come in all shapes and sizes, though most of them take the form of trays or containers with drawers. There are a few exceptions, of course, such as pen holders that show only half of your writing implements or book stands that display some of your notes or reading materials. Granted, most of the time, you’d probably want your stationery to be out of sight and out of mind, which is why you’d want to stow them away in containers anyway. Sometimes, however, you probably want to flaunt your stuff and also have them within easy reach, so this desk organizer not only makes it possible to have the best of both worlds while also becoming something you’d want to show off as well.

Designer: Bao Loi

Keeping a desk tidy and presentable can be quite a challenge, which is probably why some people mentally freeze up when faced with the task. There are just so many ways to go, depending on the stationery, tools, and containers you have. There has also never been a shortage of accessories and organizers for that purpose, some with complicated gimmicks and fancy embellishments to stand out from the crowd.

The Wav, in contrast, is a simple single-piece wooden tray that uses its unique shape both for function and form. The inclined surfaces make sure that things only slide or roll on one side, and the angle they make with the crests stops them from actually falling off. With an open surface without borders, the Wav makes it easy to remove what’s on display and put them back again. No need to worry about pulling drawers, removing lids, or even guessing which section holds which items.

The curved troughs are perfect for stopping pens and pencils from rolling off, but the tray can really hold anything that fits its surfaces, from cards to keys to even a small remote control. It can’t hold everything, of course, but it lets you exercise your decision-making muscles in picking which things you need to be within arm’s reach all the time. There will always be plenty of things on your desk that need a place to stay, even for a little while, and the Wav offers a simple yet elegant abode for that purpose.

Even when empty, the tray doesn’t waste space since it also stands as a handsome desk decor. Made from real wood and finished with natural oil that gives it a slightly matte texture, the Wav desk tray stands as a proud example of how you don’t need to go overboard just to have a functional yet beautiful tool on your desk.

The SQUARE Organizer System can adapt to different environments

SQUARE Organizer Images

Organizing a desk seems to be an easy task, but we know it is not always true for some people. There are those that find it challenging to keep the clutter off their table, so a desk organizer is a suggested solution.

We have seen several desk trays and organizers, but we know more will be designed and introduced. The last one that made an impression was the Lands Collection of Wooden Trays. Today, we’re featuring this Square Organizer System available in different fun colors.

Designer: Lo Kwun Hon (One Object Design Studio)

Work or study desks must be organized, but we know organizing doesn’t come naturally to many people. The SQUARE Organizer is a new solution designed by product designer Lo Kwun Hon. The Square comes with a straightforward design— multiple slots on one side and a recessed tray on the other.

The Square universal organizer is made of resin material. It’s called Square because of the simple shape, which can be combined with another piece to make a bigger or longer version. You can put two Square trays side by side to hold your pens, scissors, and other knick-knacks.

A Square tray can adapt quickly to any environment. You are free to use it to hold small items on your desk, such as earbuds, keys, paper clips, business cards, or pens. You can use several Square trays at once and arrange them with your own layout. The tray is versatile so you won’t run out of things to do with it as long as you need organizing or decluttering on your desk.

SQUARE Organizer Concept

The Square Organizer can also be considered modular as you can use more than one piece to create a more extensive tray system. This particular concept reminds us of the Lands Wooden Tray, as they have a similar design. The FLIP Calculator from before also had a similar concept. The Square has a series of ridges that can be used to hold different objects, making it effective.

SQUARE Organizer One Object Details

The concept tray design is honest and innovative. You may say it’s just an organizing tray for your work table, but it can inspire you to work. Declutter and organize what you see on your table, and maybe you can finally finish that project or task you’ve been working on since forever. Those trinkets and tools on your desk definitely need a place so perhaps the Square tray system can finally be the solution you’ve been waiting for.

Lands Collection of Wooden Trays shows off craftsmanship and great design

LANDS Collection Wooden Tray

The designer’s inspiration is something we have not experienced in a while—looking down out of the window from a plane and seeing things smaller down below. Aerial landscapes mainly inspire the Lands Collection of wood trays and we love the results.

Designer Carlos Jiménez has come up with a collection of wood trays with Scandinavian aesthetics. The trays can be used for anything: home decor, tableware, or accessories organizer. The modular design makes the collection more functional than ever because you can personalize your desk tray system.

There are different sizes and styles to choose from. You can use the trays on both sides, depending on your preference. You can also choose between the steamed walnut wood and ash wood version.

There are six different trays available in various sizes and shapes. These wooden trays are very convenient, practical, and functional for the office or home. You can use them on your office desk to keep small items organized. In addition, you can use the tray to display your stuff and keep your desk tidy.

The designer tried sketching his ideas first and then made paper models. The initial prototypes were made in pine wood. Some pieces were even painted in colors, but the designer is now settling for natural wood finish.

LANDS Collection of Trays

The project was a Red Dot 2020 Winner, so you know this will really catch people’s attention. Each tray corresponds with the other trays perfectly, as made possible by the zigzag surface. The latter ensures both the movement and stability of the trays.

You can use the tray pieces separately or together. The design is simple yet elegant, making for timeless pieces any minimalist would love. The ridges also remind us of the FLIP calculator that functions as a pen organizer when flipped over and not in use.

LANDS Collection Trays

We don’t see many desk trays around, but we have featured several interesting designs. We remember that Protrude wooden minimal desk tray that looked like it would slip right off your desk. The stackable trays from Studio Unité also looked minimalist yet a bit quirky.

And then there was the LastDesk modular desk that comes with a detachable wooden tray that could be part of the Lands Collection. In this era, when working from home is encouraged, it is recommended that you enhance your work desk situation. Table organizers and trays can help you tidy up any desk for a more inspiring work environment.

This modular desk lets you design every element to create the perfect work setup that meets your changing needs!

The right desk is arguably the most important addition to every workspace. They set the tone and pace for organization, creativity, and productivity for each workday. Over time, desks somehow end up personifying the people sitting behind them, becoming either messy with miscellaneous paper scraps for the scatter-brained creative or tidier than ever with only a laptop and calculator for the organized, Type A worker bee. What if we were able to design our desks before they defined us? That might turn out to be the last desk we’d ever need.

Frame CPH, a design team based in Copenhagen, recently debuted LastDesk, a modular desk that you can design yourself to unlock your ideal workspace. The aim was to create a desk that can easily adapt to today’s ever-changing technological and remote working developments. The desk itself is a classic interpretation of Scandinavian design, but it offers a more accessible approach to minimalism through the desk’s modular features. While the frame of LastDesk is as simple a frame as they come, the desktop comes equipped with changeable wooden trays and flat, slate gray slabs that can either provide extra storage for your workspace, a wireless charging station, or a means to rid your workspace of any unnecessary clutter.

Wooden trays with minimalist-approved, shallow pockets can be added to your desktop in either the top left or right corner in case any additional room for storage is needed. Then, if you prefer a more open, tidy desktop, flip the wooden trays over and expand the deskspace for more working room. Finally, if your smartphone or other wireless electronic device needs some battery juice, pick the wireless charging base and turn your desk into a power-charging station. LastDesk’s legs are also adjustable so, if you’re looking for a stand-up desk or a traditional sit-down desk, then LastDesk can adapt to your changing mind and workload. LastDesk also offers a next-generation wireless charging module, an intelligent sit-to-stand OLED controller, and a built-in, high-speed 60W USB charging slot located on one of the desk’s side panels.

Together with Søren Rose Studio, Frame CPH, and the Danish furniture brand, Stykka have designed a desk, produced with responsibility-sourced material for longevity, that is meant to be disassembled and reconstructed again and again to roll with the ever-changing world around us – they’ve designed the ultimate desk that will always work for you, the ultimate user.

Designer: Frame CPH x Søren Rose Studio for Stykka

LastDesk interprets Scandinavian design by embracing a pure, clean, and focused overall aesthetic, while also offering additional desktop designs through modularity. By integrating an unassuming, smooth wire slot for your laptop chargers or desktop wires, it’s easy to keep LastDesk organized and tidy.

Other modular trays include additional workspace accessories, such as task lamps, which are available for users to attach to LastDesk. By integrating changeable parts with which users can attach accessories, the creators at Frame CPH further enhance LastDesk’s adaptive qualities.

If necessary, a slot specifically meant for monitor mount insertions can be incorporated onto LastDesk’s top piece, so that users can optimize the desk’s working area and also securely attach their hardware to LastDesk’s modular structure.

In addition to the task lamp, a Sonos speaker comes attached to one of the slate gray, modular trays and can be chosen as one of the ways to personalize your unique LastDesk configuration. The Sonos speakers addition is an ideal companion for phone meetings or conference calls that can take place at a desk.

Finally, LastDesk comes equipped with another modular tray that doubles as a wireless charging station for your smartphone or accompanying, chargeable device. For the long workdays that turn into longer work nights, this charging station will be sure to keep your phone charged up and ready (even when you might not be).

This minimal wooden tray has a ‘clip’ up its sleeve!

I don’t know about you, but I love cute little stationery designs! They have the magical power to liven up our boring old work-desks, just looking at them at regular intervals can perk you up! Japan-based YOY Design Studio specializes in adding a pop of quirkiness and creativity to everyday items, and one such example is their Protrude Desk Tray.

Protrude is a wooden minimal desk tray that, to be honest, looks like it’s gonna slip right off your desk at any moment, taking your beloved coffee and work items with it! However, Protrude has a trick up its sleeve, or more specifically a clip up its sleeve! The underside of the tray has been equipped with a nifty little clip, allowing you to fasten and secure the tray onto any desk surface. Crafted from wood and stainless steel, the tray is about the same size as an A4 sheet of paper and can be adjusted and rotated at any angle.

Perfect for holding your steaming cup of coffee, stationery items and etc, you can position the tray any way you like, without it occupying excess space on your table while keeping your coffee away from important documents or electronics! YOY’s tray is like a clever little trick that could add some fun to your desk, and hold your work essentials!
