A coffee table that holds an electric fireplace is the ultimate winter essential

A fully electric hearth puts a modern spin on an ancient household fixture.

Fire and light have always been at the center of homes, be it a TV or a fireplace. The latter has, of course, become less practical these days, and its absence from many homes has also resulted in a shift in family interaction. “Hearth and home” is a phrase that still carries some meaning today, and a designer is bringing back that long-forgotten home centerpiece by making it not only more practical but also safe as well.

Designer: Maximillian Burton

The fireplace and the kitchen stove once started out as a single and critical part of the house. The hearth provided not only heat but also fire to cook the family’s meal. Because of those life-essential functions, the hearth also became the focal point for families to gather and connect over a warm fire and hearty food.

Those are the practical and social functions that designer Max Burton is seeking to return to modern households with a coffee table appropriately named “Hearth.” At first glance, it looks like a stylish but normal table with a black tabletop and a shuttered base. Even in this dormant state, it already functions as a beautiful centerpiece for people to gather, but that’s just the tip of the iceberg.

Twist that tabletop clockwise like a giant dial, and the slanted fins at the base open up, revealing the electric heater inside. The twisting motion might remind some of a more advanced thermostat, and it almost offers the same capability. Once opened, the Hearth sucks in air from hidden ducts on its underside and then blows heated air out the fins, warming the entire room evenly in all directions.

While its top is reminiscent of a thermostat dial, the Hearth’s tapered and shuttered base is meant to evoke images of rising temperatures and fire. The glow that comes from the heater inside definitely helps that visualization and provides a warm and soft light that feels like an open invitation for families and friends to huddle and connect with each other, just like what people in ancient times did on cold Winter days.

This humidifier-heater appliance will keep you healthy and warm all year round

We have all been here – you are sick, you have chills so you turn up the heat but that makes your room dry, meanwhile, your tea gets cold and you are too tired to go heat it up for the fourth time. And if you are anything like me you have probably tried to warm your tea in front of the heater but obviously failed. That is exactly when we need a product like Heattle – a heater and humidifier in one that uses the simple mechanism of a kettle. Now you see why the reheating-my-tea part was important?

Heaters usually make the air in any room dry and arid which can cause dry eyes, sore throat, and colds – not the best when you are sick, getting chills and all you want to do is feel the warmth. Heattle creates a balance by maintaining the humidity in the air at a recommended 40-60% which is healthier for you and also keeps the room warm for a longer period of time thus saving energy (we all know how the electric bill shoots up in winter)! The inspiration for its form was the visual of a warm kettle on a cold winter day and Heattle manages to radiate that exact emotion through its design. It not only heats the room but also creates an emotional connect to the product itself.

The three settings of Heattle are Warming, Heating, and Humidify. Warm keeps your room warm without the hot wind. Heating adopts a high-efficiency PTC ceramic wire which lets it heat much faster without any pre-heating time. It also reduces the dryness because it heats the cold air without burning oxygen. Humidify provides heated humidification without any bacterial concerns. The dial on the top of Heattle lets you set the temperature and pick your desired setting. The most intuitive and homely part of this design is the kettle water storage for the humidifier, it makes refilling and changing the water convenient and I am curious to know if I can just use it for tea too!

A wireless electric heater to keep you warm wherever you are

We are used to seeing radiators as an obvious part of a room. No matter how slim you make its form, the design has the slab or chunky look to it.

The Promenade is a simple U – shaped rod, that sits discreetly in any room. To make it portable in design, there is a wheel system fitted to the bottom of the pipe. When in use, the tube lights up ambient-ly, indicating that it is in use.

Using battery charging as its mainstay, the heater can be lined up together – six at a time – and charged at one go. Collectively the heat emitted is strong, so its best to be mindful of this.

“Promenade has the meaning of walking. The promenade can be moved together when the user moves to the desired space. This will provide enough functionality and aesthetics to warm the user’s emotions,” Lee told Yanko Design.

“Charged wireless heaters move around the space and warm the atmosphere as well as the air.”

“On the front is an LED that shows the charge status and temperature. The lower part has a terminal for charging and one wheel for movement.”

“One wheel at the bottom does not roll when standing upright.”

“When the user tilts to move this heavy heater, the wheels touch the floor and are movable.”

“Power can be obtained from the battery to heat the coils and dissipate high heat.”
