Voyo V2 TV Box Comes with SSD Support or Power Bank Abilities

Each of the two versions of Voyo’s V2 TV box packs an attractive feature. While one can use its massive battery to double as a power bank, the other acts as external storage, due to its SSD support.

Mini PC and TV Box manufacturers have realized that in order to survive the competition, they need to equip their products with extraordinary features. Some opt for more storage, while others prefer to use gigantic batteries (in capacity, not in size) to provide additional functionality.

The version that doubles as a power bank relies on a 8000mAh battery to achieve this. Other one packs a small 4500mAh battery to provide room for an SSD. By doing that, users have access to fast storage, not to mention that the capacity is much more than what other TV boxes can offer.

Besides those features, the design also sets Voyo V2 apart from the competition. The TV box comes in a sleek body measuring 13.1 x 8.2 x 1.5 cm and weighing 300 grams. Tempered glass was used for protecting the device from scratches and damage. On top of that, the mirror finish helps the box look extremely classy, even though I would have loved to see it in other colors, as well, and not just gold.

Unique features apart, both versions are powered by an Intel quad-core CPU and an Intel HD GPU, coupled with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of ROM. In terms of connectivity, Voyo V2 sports Wi-Fi, which comes in handy when streaming videos from the network, as well as Bluetooth (for pairing mice, keyboards and game controllers), Gigabit Ethernet. As for the software, the box runs a licensed version of Microsoft 8.1. Multimedia playback is ensured by the addition of XBMC. The hardware is capable of playing videos up to 4K, so that’s yet one more worry you can strike off the list.

SOOT Electropack: Never Run out of Juice

Having lots of devices can be fun, but it’s a pain when you run out of juice. I’ve had to scramble to find a power plug more than once, and the external battery that I have usually doesn’t last that long. Lugging around a large battery in your backpack makes sense if you’re heading outdoors.

The SOOT Electropack is supposed to be able to power your devices for up to two weeks without having to plug it in. Now that’s what I call self-sufficiency. The bag is made up of three modular bags, which can be combined to suit your needs.

Each one contains a 10,000 mAh battery. The pack can charge up to four devices at once, from smartphones to tablets. A single battery pack can charge a typical smartphone up to seven times, or an iPad once. Get the version with an extra battery pack to double that for up to two weeks of capacity for your smartphone.

The SOOT Electropack has got 34L of storage, so you can still lug around a lot of gear while keeping your devices fully juiced up. It was launched as Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign, which ends on October 17th. You’ll have to pledge at least $239(USD) with one battery pack. $279 will buy you a the version with the extra battery pack.

ASUS Introduces Desktop PCs with Optional Battery Pack & UPS: Ever Ready

On the eve of this year’s Computex international computer and technology fair, ASUS announced two desktop PCs with an optional component that can save both themselves and other gadgets. Both the upcoming G10 and M51 computers will support the ASUS Power Pack, an optional 6,000 mAh external battery pack that doubles as the computers’ UPS.

The Power Pack is the black device jutting out of the G10′s expansion bay in the image above. You can take the entire thing out and use it to charge mobile devices on the go via its 2 USB ports, then dock it back to recharge it. But as I mentioned above, while it’s docked it also pulls double duty as an uninterruptible power supply or a UPS. When power to the G10 or M51 is cut off, the Power Pack can keep those two desktop PCs alive for up to 30 minutes. That’s more than enough to save your files and shut down the PCs.
