Scented Flash Drives

creamsicle scented flash drive
While we’re not exactly sure WHY you’d want a Scented Flash Drive, the fact that you CAN get one is pretty jazzy. That’s right, jazzy. We’re jazzed. You can get these 4GB flash drives in one of three delectable scents like Creamsicle above. Or how about jelly donut?

Ok now that we’ve brought donuts into the equation, it’s starting to sound pretty appealing. I mean, why wouldn’t you want everything you own to smell like donuts? Jelly donuts, no less. Need something to wash that down with? How about a cola scented drive?

Can we get back to the donuts now? Each drive has a little keychain attachment so your keys can also smell delicious. Besides just smelling great (we assume) these flash drives are also totally adorable with their little smiling faces.

The Vibrator: Now With 100% More Flash Storage

vibrator-flash-drive

The Duet by Crave is a waterproof vibrator with up to 16GB of flash storage. Yes, that’s vibrator as in a sex toy, and no, we have no idea why anyone would want to combine the two. Presumably because the battery pack is rechargeable through USB, so maybe someone figured “Hey, since it’s plugged in there in the first place, why not just add some storage?” We suppose you can store some moving images of a suggestive nature, you know, so you feel like using the vibrator in the first place.

There are three models. A $149 version with no storage, a $219 version with 8GB of space and a 24K gold plated ring between the vibrator and base, and a $349 model with 16GB and a fully gold plated base. Even more strange is if we’d told you about this on the 14th of February, and you’d lived in the San Francisco are, you could have gotten same day delivery by one of the founders of the company.

Tribe Releases World’s Least Bulbous Star Wars Flash Drives

I’ve always enjoyed those little Mimobot Star Wars flash drives, though their bulbous heads always seemed a little weird to me – especially Yoda. They’re quirky, yes, but they never looked exactly like the original Star Wars characters they’re attempting to represent. These new flash drives from Italy’s Tribe look much more like their big screen doppelgängers.

Sure, their heads are disproportionately large for their tiny bodies, but you can recognize R2-D2, Yoda, C-3PO, Chewbacca, the Stormtrooper, Boba Fett, Darth Vader, and Darth Maul without a problem.

They only have 8GB of storage capacity each, but that’s okay – they’re really more for collecting than for storing digital copies of your entire movie collection – though you could probably store an HD copy of each flick on a representative flash drive. You know, Empire Strikes Back goes on Vader, Return of the Jedi gets saved on Fett, and The Phantom Menace gets deleted stored inside of Darth Maul and so on.

You can order each of these officially-licensed Star Wars USB flash drives over at Tribe for €19.90 (~$26 USD) each, and you should be able to get the complete collection of eight drives for €149.90 (~$194 USD) soon. I only wish they had Jabba and Slave Leia drives too.

Victorinox offers refunds for secure USB drives in light of discontinued software updates

Victorinox offers refunds for secure USB drives in light of discontinued software updates

Software support and security certificates are coming to an end for Victorinox's line of secure USB drives, but the firm announced on Facebook that it's offering customers full refunds until December 31 if they'd like to return their products in light of the developments. In order to avoid losing data, owners of the flash drives should perform a backup before the encryption application meets its untimely end on September 15th. However, files stored on non-encrypted areas of the device will remain accessible without further action. The Slim, Secure and Presentation Master storage sticks can still be used as run-of-the-mill thumb drives after the cut-off date, but the Swiss Army Knife maker's application will no longer be able to scramble or unscramble their contents.

Victorinox nixes software updates for USB drives, security certificate to expire in September

Victorinox nixes software updates for USB drives, security certificate to expire in September

Victorinox may have offered a hefty bounty to crack its secure USB drives' encryption, but the storage sticks seem to have met their match another way: the end of software support. In an email sent to customers and a pair of Facebook posts, the firm announced that it will halt updates as of next month and that its security program's VeriSign certificate is only valid until September 15th. As a result, customers are urged to backup their data lickity split. According to the outfit, the economics of continuing application development just weren't reasonable and it'll now refer to a third party for all software. However, the Swiss Army Knife maker isn't out of the flash drive business -- it's committed to putting more of the devices on the market. We've reached out to the company for more details on how the thumb drives will be affected and we'll update when we get word. In the meantime, hit the source links for the notice or check out the e-mail below.

[Thanks, Scott]
