This LEGO kit comes with LED lights to build your own Flux Capacitor, like the one in ‘Back to the Future’

In Back to the Future, Doc Brown warns Marty, “Whatever happens Marty, don’t go to 2020!” Wise words, Doc. While 2020 certainly wasn’t our golden year, 2021 is making up for the lost time. Alternatives for safe travel are cropping up and product designs for playing and relaxing at home are too. While we don’t want to travel back to 2020, perhaps some point in the distant future sounds more like it. While electronic hobby group Brickstuff has yet to construct an IRL version of Doc’s Flux Capacitor, a miniature LEGO replica will suffice for now.

Building with LEGO blocks will never go out of style. If I had a bucket of LEGO bricks in front of me right now, I wouldn’t waste any time before getting on the floor to build my dream home, making my younger self proud. Fusing the nostalgia of watching ‘80s cult classics like Back to the Future and spending entire afternoons building with LEGO bricks, Brickstuff designed the LEGO version of Doc Brown’s Flux Capacitor as a kit for anyone to construct, all ages welcome. The kit comes complete with a whopping 18 new LEGO bricks, a pre-assembled pliant circuit board, LED lights that actually glow with the help of a battery pack, and three AA batteries. You’ll have to buy the batteries separately, but the kit comes included with illustrated assembly instructions to aid in the building process.

LEGO bricks are the type of toy that instantly brings us back to our childhood. There was a time when LEGO was my whole universe. Back to the Future is nostalgic in itself, and I can still remember the first time I watched the movie–English class, sophomore year of high school. Brickstuff brings together these two forces from our childhood to create a miniature collectible item that we can build ourselves, reminding us that we can accomplish anything if we put our minds to it.

Designer: Brickstuff

Brickstuff’s LEGO replica of Doc Brown’s Flux Capacitor features glowing LED lights and a miniature circuit board.

Users can open the Flux Capacitor to mimic iconic scenes from Back to the Future.

An attached battery pack requires three AA batteries for the LED lights to turn on.

The kit comes with 18 new LEGO bricks and illustrated assembly instructions.

The kit comes with everything you might need to build your own Flux Capacitor – just add batteries.

11 Back to The Future Toys You Want!

Back to The Future Toys 4

If you’re a Back to the Future fan, you must be excited about October 21, 2015 coming up. It’s the date Doc and Marty arrive in the future, setting up the chain of events that alter the past and eventually sent both of them to 1885. It’s a day of celebration and depression because we don’t have flying car, but it’s also an excellent excuse to gear up on some extremely cool Back to the Future toys and gadgets, to make you feel more comfortable with the special day.

Flux Capacitor USB Car Charger

This thing won’t send you into the future or the past like it did in the movies, unless you have Plutonium, and even then, probably not. But it will charge two devices at once, while making you feel like you’re driving the DeLorean for a little bit. Get it for $24.99

Back to the Future Flux Capacitor Wristwatch

Some people can’t have enough of three lines with lights going through them. If not in your car, then how about your hand? It tells the time using the Flux Capacitor lights and the date with with atime circuit LCD, making you feel like you’re looking at the DeLorean time-travel panel. Get it for $49.99

Back to the Future Lights and Sound Mark II DeLorean

A replica that’s 1/15 of the actual DeLorean time machine that comes with lights, sound effects, and fully-detailed moving parts. While it won’t get you to a different time and you won’t be able to hit 88 mph with it, just moving it around listening to the sound effects (or doing them on your own) is quite satisfying. Get it for $59.99

Back To The Future Desktop Hoverboards

The world of science still hasn’t given us the hoverboards that were promised in the film, along with a lot of other stuff. However, having this minituare hoverboard, sliding on its track thanks to magnets makes for an excellent toy or desk accessory for people who don’t want their office looking too serious. Get it for $39.99

Vinyl Idolz: Back to the Future

Marty looks a bit stunned and Doc’s eyes are all over the place like his character from ‘Who Framed Roger Rabbit’, but these vinyl Idolz are great to put on a stand to geek-out your room or living room, and probably engage in some games with your kids or friends (if you’re still into that kind of thing) by dubbing them with appropriate impersonations. Get it for $19.99

Back to the Future Pop Rides – Delorean w/Marty

Growing up, Marty McFly was who I wanted to be. So having this Funko POP! version of Marty joy-riding in the DeLorean pretty much sums up how I wished I’d be growing up. I’m not sure how good it would be to have your head stick out like that while doing the time travelling thing. We need to ask Robert Zemeckis. Get it for $24.99

Back to the Future Part II – 1:24 Delorean Scale Model Kit

Putting together a time machine in 2015? Still impossible. But putting together a scale model of the BTTF II DeLorean? Completely possible and tempting, especially for those who love to build stuff, and it doesn’t even have to come with Libyan help. This also includes the hover conversion and Mr. Fusion. Get it for $39.99

Back to the Future III DeLorean

Things sure were dusty in the old West. And the DeLorean in 1885 looks like something the army would use during a ‘Desert Storm’ operation, replacing the metallic look with a sand-golden kind of appearance and includes all the awesome sounds from the film. Get it for $59.99

Back to the Future Mr. Fusion Replica

A must for any kitchen (although it doesn’t do anything but the sound from the movie, which is good enough), this perfect replica of the Mr. Fusion gadget Doc Brown introduces to us in the film and wows Marty with his future know-how will make you feel a little bit cooler and closer to your home giving out the perfect Back to the Future vibe. Get it for $399.99

Back To The Future 1, 2, 3 Trilogy Set Delorean Time Machine

Some toys are great because they’re simple. While adults usually tend to shy away from these or simply buy/pass it on to their children, people who are huge fans of something are never too old to have or even play with something like this, and the complete set of the DeLorean time machines is something that will always be fun to look at, toy around with and pass it down to those in need of some cinematic education. Get it for $49.72

LEGO 21103 The DeLorean Time Machine Building Set

Who doesn’t love Lego? And a Back to the Future Lego? Which means tiny Doc and Marty? With a DeLorean you can build and then put them in? And for you to then drive around and make noises as you imagine them hitting the desired speed and going to a time and place where they don’t mess up the timeline? Sounds good, almost too good, but the actual characters and car-building thing exists, luckily. Get it for $102.95

Back to the Future Flux Capacitor Watch

flux capacitor watch Back to the Future Flux Capacitor Watch
You don’t need to be Huey Lewis to be singing about going back in time. You don’t even need to be The News. You just need to be wearing this Back to the Future Flux Capacitor Watch. Modeled after Doc Brown’s flux capacitor, this watch takes it out of the DeLorean and puts it on your wrist. It’s made of stainless steel, just like a DeLorean. Unlike a DeLorean it won’t time travel if you hit 88mph. It does have a “time travel” mode though.
back to the future watch Back to the Future Flux Capacitor Watch
Press the button to activate “time travel” mode and the watch goes haywire, the Flux Capacitor starts fluxing, and the time circuit displays a random date. We’re pretty sure you’ll still be in the present time but check your surroundings just in case you’ve gone back to your parents’ prom or something. Otherwise the bottom just shows the current boring date.

If you actually did want to use this watch to tell time (and that’s kind of the point of watches, right?) you need to do some counting- press the button and the Flux lights up 3 times, with the number of lights for the hours, then minutes by 10 then single minutes. So for 9:38 it will light up 9 lights, 3 lights, then 8 lights, then repeat. Math was never Marty McFly’s strong suit anyway.

Back to the Future Flux Capacitor Watch Will Leave You Flummoxed

As one of its April Fools pranks this year, ThinkGeek made a mockup of a USB car charger that looks like the flux capacitor from Back to the Future. Fans loved it so much that ThinkGeek made it a real product. Now the shop has a new treat for BTTF fans. It’s a wristwatch that looks just like Doc Brown’s crowning achievement.

The officially licensed Flux Capacitor Watch displays the time in a fairly tedious way, using 12 dots of light on the watch face. When you press the watch’s bottom button, you’ll get three sets of flashes from the dots. The first one indicates the hour, the second one indicates the first digit of the minutes and the last one the second minute digit. So a 12-2-5 pattern means it’s 12:25 (it makes you wonder how it indicates zeroes). The time circuit-style LCD display at the bottom simply displays the date.

As a bonus feature, the watch has a Time Travel mode, where the dots of light will flash randomly and the LCD display will show a random date.

Great Scott! It’s a Flux Capacitor USB Car Charger

flux capacitor car charger Great Scott! Its a Flux Capacitor USB Car Charger
Great Scott! If my calculations are correct when this sucker reaches 88 mph, you’re going to see some serious sh!t! Take your car… back to the future with the Flux Capacitor USB Car Charger. It looks just like the device from Doc Brown’s famed DeLorean (you know, from the movie Back to the Future? just stating the obvious) but instead of taking you back or forward in time, it charges up your phone.

The charger has a pair of USB ports (1A and 1 x 2.1A) to charge anything with a USB cable- phones, tablets, GPS units, hover skateboards, etc.) Not only does it look like the flux capacitor, it also lights up and pulses just like the real deal as you drive on down the road. Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads. You can turn the flux effect on or off with the switch if you don’t feel like going back to your parent’s high school dance. You got that, McFly?

Flux Capacitor USB car charger turns your ride into a time machine

flux-capacitor-usb-car-charger

While your car might not be capable of time travel, you can sure make it seem a prop of 1985, the year Back to the Future was released. All you need is your credit card, and knowing where to look.

What started out as a joke by the ThinkGeek team has now become a reality as Flux Capacitor USB Car Chargers are set to arrive later this month for $25. The unit displays two USB ports with 2.1-amps potency to recharge your gadgets and gear as you drive. Time traveling might come further down the line, but keeping your gadgets at full battery is equally important, wouldn’t you say?

The Flux Capacitor just needs to be plugged into what used to be a lighter in the time everyone smoked (what the kids call a power port nowadays), and just like that, will provide enough power to recharge up to two tablets simultaneously. Not bad at all.

Flux Capacitor USB Car Charger: 0.0000000121 Gigawatts?!?! Great Scott!

Doc Brown’s Flux Capacitor made time travel possible in a DeLorean. Every geek knows what it is. That’s why the Flux Capacitor Car Charger was a good idea. Sadly, it was just one of ThinkGeek’s April Fool’s products this past April, and it was one of those fake items that every geek wants for real.

1ba1 flux capacitor car chargermagnify

This thing would sell like crazy if they made it for real. And they have! This Back To The Future-inspired charger will be available in September of 2014. That’s this year people! Here is what the product page says:

Each Flux Capacitor Car Charger has two USB ports, each capable of charging almost any USB powered device (it pumps out 2.1 Amps). But it also has that beautiful Flux Capacitor light sequence we all know and love. Even traffic jams (either terrestrial or aerial (if your car is powered by Mr. Fusion)) won’t bother you because your device will be charging and the Flux Capacitor Car Charger’s pulse will make you feel more important than anyone else. It’s time to write your name in your underwear, Calvin, and get yourself a Flux Capacitor Car Charger in the present (so you can enjoy it in the future).

The Flux Capacitor USB charger will cost you only $24.99(USD) and will ship starting this September.
