A seat designed to make you healthier!

meditation_seat_1

Wanting to design a seat that guides you into sitting cross-legged, Gao Fenglin’s Meditation Seat can only be sat on in a certain way, directing the user’s behavior and encouraging a seating position that keeps your back upright, and your legs folded inward. The cross-legged position finds itself dating thousands of years back in Oriental and Indian cultures. Used often for meditation as well as for eating, the posture is said to increase blood circulation and joint flexibility, while strengthening bones, and keeping your back upright. It also aids digestion.

The seat’s design is quite different from the kind you normally see. Looking like a saddle, with a strange concavity in the middle, you sit on the upper level of the seat with your legs folded inwards, and your feet occupying the lower area. Unusual for sure, the seat may not be particularly indicative (you might need someone to show you how to sit on it the first time), but it sure encourages a good and healthy practice of sitting in a way that’s good for you both physically, and if you’re into meditation, mentally too!

The Meditation Seat is a winner of the A’ Design Award for the year 2018.

Speed Limit Capped

The Speed Guard is a speedometer alert that uses a colored display to let the driver know that he is speeding above the permitted speed limit. GPS readings detect the position of the car and the speed limit of that particular road. So even if you see the signboard, your car knows the speed limit; no escaping that!

When the speedometer’s needle passes the speed limit, the excess area covered by the needle will be illuminated with red light.

Speed Guard is a 2012 red dot award: design concept winner.

Colored Tiers Are Safer

The Discolor Tyre is a concept where the age and durability of the car tire is indicated and communicated through its color. Basically a tire is good for around 20,000 kilometers, and then its kinds worn out. With the Discolor Tyre, the tire takes on a bright orange hue once it is worn out and requires immediate replacement. It saves you the trouble of keeping a constant check and acts as a good warning system to keep your travels safe.

The Discolor Tyre is a 2012 iF Design Talents entry.

Cup Designed For Better Hygiene

Here’s the deal with drying cups hygienically. If you store them upright, then there is a chance of dirt/dust falling in. If you place them upside down, then the rim gets dirty once again. So to solve the problem we have here the Bevel Cup, inspired by the angular stance of a ballerina. The angular handle of the Bevel Cup allows it to remain as clean as possible when it is stored after being washed.

Bevel Cup has an angled handle (at 40°angle to horizontal plane) that allows it to stand at an angle, upside down, but resting only on the handle itself. This keeps dust out and germs off the rim. This storage position is also a good indicator that the cup is ready to be used rather than in need of a wash after a previous use.

Bevel Cup is a 2012 red dot award: design concept winner.
