With twin turbines and an internal UV-C lamp, this sleek N95 mask gives you a clean, purified breeze

Necessity is the mother of invention… but iteration is the mother of innovation. The design brief for the face-mask has definitely changed a lot since March 2020 when the lockdown really began. You see, back in the first few months of the lockdown, the mask’s design brief was to be a better version of the N95 (a pretty achievable distinction if you ask me), but it’s different now. Face masks today need to compare with the face masks that launched last year. They need to be better than their previous selves, which becomes a bit of a challenge when you consider how these masks touted features like air-tight seals, replaceable N95 filters, fans, and comfortable silicone rings. That’s the challenge the purME Air faces… being better than its previous iteration that launched in August last year.

The purME Air tries to take things a step further by being a mask so capable, you could even exercise with it on. Its robust design is engineered to be smaller and lighter than its previous iteration, while including larger, more quiet fans on the inside. The fans control air-flow with up to 3 speed settings, mimicking the effects of a breeze within your mask. Air is passed through N95 filters both when it enters as well as exits the mask, ensuring purity throughout; and as a safety measure, each mask comes with built-in UV-C lights that sterilize the insides of the mask when you’re not wearing them. Overall, the purME Air weighs just 80 grams (that’s about as heavy as two AirPods cases), while occupying a smaller footprint on your face. It even comes with a more powerful battery, boasting of up to 8 hours of use.

While the purME from last year was born as a product of the pandemic and bad air quality, the purME Air builds on where its previous iteration left off. The purME Air retains the same N95-level protection for daily use while offering the ability to upgrade your filters to P100 level for extra protection, however, now the mask also offers the ability to put FFP1 level filters in, focused more on indoor or in-vehicle use. While the aforementioned filters targeted microparticles and pollutants, the FFP1 is much more breathable, and focuses on stopping microorganisms and allergens from entering. The outer plastic shell on the purME Air is removable, revealing the larger centrifugal fans on the inside that work harder (while keeping noise under 50dB) at circulating air, creating constant pressure within the mask… a fancy way of saying that the mask always remains breathable because of the air constantly passing through it. Another significant upgrade in this year’s mask is the inclusion of UV-C lights that work to self-sterilize the mask’s insides, instantly neutralizing any microorganisms residing on the surfaces of the mask and within the filters. The lights are powered by sensors that detect when the mask is off your face and kept laid down. Lift the mask up to wear it and the UV-C light automatically shut off, saving you the trouble of needing to wipe your mask down with a Kleenex. Weighing just 80 grams, the mask is significantly smaller and lighter than other fan-powered face-masks, while still sporting a silicone body that creates a protective seal around your nose and mouth. The purME Air even comes with around-the-head bands (as opposed to the around-ear bands from last year’s model) for better comfort, along with a power button and USB port right on the front for easier access.

In its second iteration, the purME Air narrows its vision to solve the problems we have ahead of us… from the pandemic itself to deteriorating air quality, allergens, or even other immunity-compromising microorganisms. Along with its focus on delivering clean air with replaceable, modular filters, the purME Air also focuses on making sure it’s more comfortable to wear for long hours. The silicone body creates an air-tight seal, preventing spectacle-fog, while the smaller form factor and head straps let you wear the mask for longer without feeling the fatigue. Moreover, the faster fans give you the freedom to wear the mask while exercising (both indoors and outdoors), and that 6-8 hour battery promises to get you through most of your day!

purME Air – The World’s Most Breathable Face Mask

The purMe Air is a wearable air purifier with twin turbines to help you breathe safer and easier. In addition, it sterilizes your mask before and after each wear with its built-in UV-C light. And blocks out over 95% of microorganisms and pollutants with 3 protection level filters, from FFP1 to P100.

Patent-pending Constant Pressure Technology

The patent-pending constant pressure technology ensures effortless and safe breathing by keeping the pressure inside the mask constant.

Other powered masks draw in more air than you breathe out. purME Air ensures constant air pressure with twin innovative turbines bringing the same amount of air in and out. This prevents leakage of unfiltered air from over-pressure and makes your breathing simply effortless.

To adjust the airflow to your needs, purME Air offers 3 power levels: Choose the one that works for you and supplies you with enough fresh air, whether indoors, in the street, or while working out in a gym.

Complete Self-Cleaning in under 5 Minutes

With its built-in UV-C LED, purME Air will sanitize your mask for you whenever you aren’t wearing it. Simply turn it on before or after each wear and it will remove all the microorganisms and odor on the inside of the mask in under 5 minutes.

As UV-C light can be harmful to your skin, purME Air features an additional safety mechanism. To prevent your eyes and skin from UV exposure, purME Air features a safety switch to ensure UV light only turns on when you want. Turn it on when you take off your mask, and turn it off once you wear it.

One Mask, 3 Protection Levels

With its 3 modular protection levels, purME Air can replace all your existing masks. You choose whether you need 80%, 95%, or 99.9% protection depending on your environment and needs.

Choose between basic protection with the new FFP1 filter, higher protection with the KN95 filter, or maximum protection with the P100 filter through the adapter included.

purME HEPA Filters

The HEPA filters that come with your purME Air mask have been certified by third-party SGS Labs — the world’s leading inspection, verification, testing, and certification company with nearly 100,000 employees in 2,600 offices around the world — to FFP1 and KN95 standards, both for filtration and airflow. Replace your HEPA filters every 14 days of use, and trust them to remove over 95% of pollutants at 0.3 microns.

Perfect Fit and Comfortable

Made of firm yet supple LFGB food grade silicone—free of organic vapor, heavy metals, and harmful residues—the silicone face mask not only ensures a perfect airtight fit to minimize air leakage but also seals tightly against your nose while you’re on the move.

With its folded-over seamless ergonomic design, the flexible silicone edge of the mask will sit comfortably on your face and never leave marks on it, even after hours of use.

You can use the over-head dynamic straps to easily adjust the mask to your head and keep it in place even during intense workouts.

Full-Day Protection

purME Air is powered by a rechargeable battery stored inside. It offers 6-8 hours of operation, which is more than enough to protect you for the whole day.

Ultralight and One Size Fits All

purME Air comes in one size and fits most people above 12 thanks to its flexible materials and adjustable straps. Weighing at just 80g, go hiking, cycle to work, exercise at the gym or just take to the streets with almost no-mask feel.

Made entirely out of natural materials, this travel kit is comfortable and eco-friendly

Softened banana leaf, water hyacinth leaf, corn-silk… you don’t often hear these terms used in fashion and apparel, but this ecologically-aware travel kit is set to change that status quo. Ditching the more commonly used materials like microbeads, lycra, neoprene, memory-foam, etc, the Banana Leaf Travel Kit is made entirely out of naturally available resources, with minimal processing, and is designed to be soothing, soft-to-the-touch but also entirely disposable and biodegradable.

Designed by Aishwarya Nair along with assistance from Studio Tjeerd Veenhoven, the Banana Leaf Travel Kit introduces a new material to the world…Softened Banana Leaf, a fabric that’s created after treating banana leaves with a “special solution” that allows them to become permanently soft and feel great against the skin.

The travel kit is a set of accessories that Aishwarya claims are perfect for hotels, travel agencies, flights, or even tropical cruises to distribute to their patrons. Based loosely on Mahatma Gandhi’s fabled concept of “hear no evil, see no evil, and speak no evil”, the kit contains a mouth-mask, an eye-mask, and a pair of earmuffs. The mouth-mask is made with softened banana leaves, while the eye-mask uses a banana-leaf exterior and a corn-silk interior for utmost comfort. Usually thrown away as a by-product of corn-harvesting, the silk is known to be soft, and when stuffed inside the banana-leaf envelope, gives the material a new lease of life. The earmuffs come made from the banana leaf too, but contain a layer of softened water-hyacinth on the inside. Water hyacinth is one of the world’s fastest growing plants, and is often considered a nuisance for the way it covers entire lakes, starving the eco-system beneath it of sunlight and oxygen. Using water-hyacinth to make travel accessories would give one access to an entire reservoir of raw-material that’s all up for grabs.

Ultimately, the entire kit is made with natural materials and elastic-cords that secure the products around your face. Use them as many times as you need and dispose them and the banana leaves, corn-silk, and water hyacinth biodegrade almost instantly, returning back to nature, rather than polluting it!

A Breath of Fresh Air for Gas and Oil Workers

In gas and oil industry workplaces, a massive fire can break out faster than you can say global warming! Designed for these scenarios, Airscape gives workers an extra 10-20 minutes of clean breathing in order to escape danger zones. The simplistic design consists of two small compressed air cylinders, a gas/smoke mask, eye cover, and protective shoulder bag. What makes it stand out, however, is an intuitive approach that requires essentially no training to use. Because every second counts, users can simply aim the mask at the face and slide the auto-inflated brace over their head to secure in one uninterrupted gesture.

A Twist on the Gas Mask

espire_01

When we think of gas masks, we immediately envision goggles with a large contraption placed over the mouth. That’s because the design has largely gone unchanged over the years. Perhaps this cumbersome design is not the best solution.

The Espire gas mask explores the use of modern material technologies that allow for a lighter, slimmer, sleeker form that enhances comfort by literally turning the archetypical mask upside down! The spin-on filter is now located at the top of the mask to accommodate a transparent mouth section. The air flow is guided in a linear stream from the top of the mask, where the air first interacts with the visor to keep it free from fog. The air then flows through a valve in a divider between the viewing and mouth area. Afterwards the air is exhaled through the outlet valve located at the chin, insuring no exhaled air comes into contact with the visor‘s viewing area. This unobstructed vision is particularly useful for painters, varnishers, and other’s who rely heavily on their sight.

As a bonus, the wearer’s communication is much more effective during wear as the transparent mouth section doesn’t interfere with speech and their lips can actually be read!

The Social Gas Mask

The nature of a gas mask has a negative connotation as it is, but in this example it’s used as a tool with psychological coping during emergency situations. It’s called the Social Gas Mask, and its large eyepieces, cheeky filters and small mouth opening work together to offer an empowering image and positive experience. It facilitates better communication between individuals spending time together in a stressful situation. It’s as friendly as a gas mask could be!

For Lethal Couplings: Gas Mask Diamond Ring

Gas Mask Diamond RingRings are a symbol of love and commitment. They’re indicators of your fashion sense, sentiments, and even your political views. Where the Gas Mask diamond ring falls under, I’m not sure. Probably all of the above, although I’m unsure on the love and commitment part for obvious reasons.

The ring is adorned with gorgeous black and white diamonds, which are set on 18-carat gold with a black finish. Wear it in protest, wear it to showcase your sense of style (and deep pockets), or simply wear it because it’s fun.

The price? $7,000.

Portal Turret Gas Mask Will Violently Filter Your Breathing Air

Nowadays, kids are into violence.  Guns, explosions, fist fights – you can’t deny that these have all become an integral part of the gaming experience.  Borderlands 2?  Violent.  Halo 4?  Violent.  All 50 million versions of the same game?  (CoD.)  Violent.

Portal is one of the more docile games in terms of getting injured, but we’ve taken one small part of that experience and focused on it in all kinds of different creations. Which part is that, you ask?  The part that shoots things, of couse – the turret from Portal!  One minute it’s your friend, the next it’s stabbing you in the back.  With bullets.  Still recovering emotionally from Wheatley’s betrayal.

A guy by the name of TwoHornsUnited, who understands the concept of two objects being stronger than a single object, has created this awesome tribute to Portal.  No, I don’t think it will actually protect you from noxious gas, but it sure as heck will make the neighbors pee their pants when I crawl in through the window holding my Portal gun replica.

portal gas mask sick 2b

Here’s what the mask looks like from the view of the fifty foot woman.  You know – did anyone ever try to reason with that lumbering creature of a woman?  “Are you talking about my wife again?”  HAHA – I’m going to tell on you like I used to in grade school when you’d flick boogers at Jenny.  “So you weren’t talking about my wife?”  No – we already came to the consensus that she looks like that bear Matthew Inman drew.

If you like the Portal Turret Gas Mask, then you’ll definitely want to check out the Portal Webcam.  ”Not really, actually.”  I’m not a mind-reader, you intellectual potato.  Go take a look at the LEGO Portal set while I wallow in my self-pity, which gives off an odd stench.

Portal Gun Gas Mask Might Have Prevented GLaDOS’ Massacre

If the Aperture Science employees were wearing these before GLaDOS gassed them, they would have been able to breathe clean air through a portal linked outside the lab. Or, you know, use the portals to escape. That could work too.

The mask was made by deviantART member Brian Cargile aka TwoHornsUnited. He didn’t reveal how he made it, though I wouldn’t be surprised if Aperture Science had strict non-disclosure agreements. The only thing we know is that the mask is decorative and won’t actually help you in a gas mask-needing situation. He didn’t say that the Portal gun doesn’t work though. Hmmm.

Cargile said that he’ll be selling the mask later this June at the Metrocon in Tampa, Florida for about $280 (USD). Don’t worry if you can’t make it there because Cargile also said that he plans to make more and improved Portal gas masks. You can get in touch with him on deviantART and on Facebook, and be sure to browse his other gas masks while you’re on either site.
