Multipurpose EDC lets you pull door handles, push buttons, and carry bags without touching anything

Ever wondered why pirates with severed arms had hooks in their place? I’ve often wondered too and the one conclusion I keep coming to is that the hook allows you to the most number of basic activities – from pushing to pulling, carrying, and occasionally swiping. Moreover, you could zipline with it, and that sort of sounds like something pirates do a lot. Looking at the award-winning Handy EDC, I’m often reminded of that hook. It isn’t really a replacement for the hand but is a clever extension of it, allowing you to conduct most of your outdoor activities without touching a single foreign surface. Developed as a result of the pandemic, the Handy is a clever little EDC that lets you do practically most activities that require pushing, pulling, carrying, or pressing.

Crafted from metal, Handy is an open-source tool designed to keep you safe and germ-free. Its simple design allows it to easily slip onto your fingers like brass knuckles, giving you a great degree of control. Hooks on the opposite end come with protruded dots for easily pressing buttons on a keypad or elevator, while the hooks themselves act as useful devices for pulling open doors, twisting handles, or even carrying bags. When all’s said and done, just slide Handy into your pocket, or better still, attach it to your keychain using its dedicated keychain-hole. Handy comes in two sizes, a larger one that’s open-source and 3D printable, and a smaller one that you can pre-order on designer Matteo Zallio’s website.

The Handy EDC is a winner of the International Design Award for the year 2020.

Wallet Ninja is a Sleep Multi-Tool for the Modern Ninja

Wallet Ninja

Now who doesn’t need a bottle opener, can opener, screw driver, or a ruler every once in a while? It’s no problem at all if you’re at home and have full access to your toolbox. It becomes a problem if you’re out and about and find yourself needing one or two or more of these tools. The solution? Keep one of these handy-dandy credit card-sized multi-tools in your wallet.

This particular one is the Wallet Ninja, and it’s one of the funner multi-tools out there that sports a fun design and a bevy of tools and features that the average ninja would need, including a slot where you’re supposed to insert a card to transform it into a phone stand. Made from heat-treated steal, the Wallet Ninja is all of the above and more: a bottle opener, a ruler, a letter opener, six different sized hex wrenches, a fruit peeler, a can opener,  and a Philips or flathead screw driver.

The Wallet Ninja retails for $15.

TravelCard Smartphone Charger Fits In Your Wallet

TravelCard Charger0

There are many credit card-shaped charger adapters out there, but no actual chargers that fit right into your wallet–until now, that is. The TravelCard is slightly thicker than your average credit card and it holds up to five hours of extra talk time, 4.5 hours of Internet use, or 98 hours of standby time. That’s pretty impressive considering its compact size.

Using it is as simple as 1-2-3: just fish it out of your wallet, plug it into your phone’s hub, and you’re good to go. It comes built with either an integrated Lightning or Micro USB charging cable, so it’s compatible with most iOS and Android devices.

TravelCard Charger

The TravelCard is made from lightweight aluminum and will come in four colors: white, black, silver, and sapphire blue. Its Kickstarter campaign recently wrapped up (and they raised more than six times their goal amount, by the way) but you can still order one on their website for $40.

Volt Buckle Gadget Charger is a Literal Utility Belt

If you thought the computer mouse belt buckle was a huge hit, then you’ll probably be interested in the Volt Buckle. It’s equally quirky but it’s a hundred times more practical because you can actually use it to charge your iPhone or any USB connective device.

Volt Buckle1Basically, what you see is what you get: a belt buckle with a plug integrated into the buckle. Just fold out the plug part, plug in your device, and find an outlet to plug it in to start charging up your device on the go.

Volt Buckle

At this point, it’s still a design because the people behind it need $60,000 in funding to turn the Volt Buckles into a reality. If you want to support the project, you can head on over to Volt Buckle’s page on IndieGoGo. A minimum contribution of $50(USD) will get you your very own silver buckle should the project be funded.
