The S-Cradle is a perplexing design that transforms your phone into a reliable security system for 24/7 monitoring. It serves as both a watchdog, charger and Bluetooth speaker for streaming your favorite tunes. The unit itself doesn’t appear to have an integrated camera, so it’s not immediately clear whether or not your phone has to be cradled to monitor with video. Then again, wouldn’t you need your smartphone in-hand to actually monitor what’s going on remotely? While that issue seems to need a bit of tweaking, it’s also equipped with smoke sensors and a motion detector so you can stay alert even without video!
Robot vacuums have come a long way but the AIRBOT takes things to a whole new vertical… literally! The hybrid design includes an autonomous floor vacuum in addition to an air purifier. Since it will be scanning every inch of your apartment anyway, it only makes sense that the floor vacuum detect the indoor air quality from room to room. Once it has scanned the areas for free radicals, pollutants and other harmful particles, it will zoom on over to the air purifier, pick it up and give it a lift to the area needing the most purification! It’s not only a more comprehensive indoor hygiene solution but an adorable tech team working in tandem!
In the modern age, ‘modular’ is the buzz-word in interior designing and has trickled down to many home elements like modular-storage, modular-beds, modular-kitchens and now – modular refrigerators. Designed to be a sustainable appliance, the Addition by Heewoong Chai is a multi-type refrigerator system that up-sizes on demand. Based on the assumption that your first fridge comes home when you move out as a singleton, and your requirements increase when you marry and then expand your family with kids in tow, this fridge makes clever use of being modular by allowing you to add components like water purifier, oven etc. making it a holistic solution in the kitchen.
A typically good-quality make fridge lasts you for several years without a hiccup, so adding more modules as per requirements is quite sensible. What I love about the design is the clever use of technology via an app, to help control key features like temperature vs content and status on the food item stored – example: expiry date, freshness etc. In essence, each module can be temperature controlled individually, thus creating various customized zones for the food within.
Another cool inclusion is the ability to change the door orientation – what I mean by this is that you can change the hinges to open the fridge from the left or the right side.
Seek design, agile functionality and innovative in approach, the Addition Refrigerator is an appliance that’d like to see in-market soon.
On days like this, when the laundry has piled up, I wish we all could go back to the basics and potter around in our birthday suits. The problem with people like me, is that we can’t stand even the slightest of stains … nope, the dribble of ink on a white sleeve doesn’t count as polka dots! And I’m not surprised that design enthusiasts like Heewoong Chai would design instant laundry solutions like the Handry, just to cater to fastidious people like me.
Designed to be an on-the-spot cleaner, this portable wand is a laundry machine that is inspired by traditional washing methods of Korean households. They typically use a laundry bat to ‘beat’ out a stain, quite similar to how we treat dirt and grime back home.
Without being as elaborate, the machine is a quick-fix to complicated laundry rituals and focuses on spot-cleaning only. In short, a sweaty garment qualifies for a full treatment and this shortcut will not do.
This wireless-charged machine promises to complete the wash in about five-minutes. You can even customize the wash based on the dress material and kind of stain to be treated. Sounds to be a good deal, given that single people can greatly benefit from a new ritual that makes time for other stuff to get done … like washing the dishes!
