The BloomingTables let you set up a herb garden right underneath your dining table!

A cross between a table and a planter, the BloomingTables give you furniture that’s intrinsically multi-purpose. The minimal table comes with a planter built under a glass surface, allowing you to grow plants, foster succulents, and cultivate a mini kitchen-garden right under the tabletop surface.

Designed to be the world’s first ‘living furniture series’, the patent-pending BloomingTables allow you to grow herbs and vegetables, cultivate microgreens, or enjoy the beauty of succulents and vining plants in the comfort of your home. With homes and apartments growing smaller and balconies becoming more of a luxury, the BloomingTables provide a uniquely aesthetic compromise – giving you a table along with the added benefit of a tiny terrarium for your house plants.

The BloomingTables come in 4 sizes – a desk, coffee table, entryway table, and a side table – all featuring a waterproof acrylic trough-shaped base and a flat glass panel on top. Each table is equipped with a drain valve at the bottom (just in case you want to drain out any excess water from your planter’s soil), and the glass panel on top is removable too, allowing you to easily water, prune, and tend to your plants!

This herb garden was designed with smart monitoring tech & fits inside your kitchen cabinet to save space!

We have all killed a plant or two let’s just admit it. Gardening isn’t for everyone but it is sure nice to have fresh herbs to add to your meals. Imagine making a bomb pizza and realizing you don’t have basil (gasps!). To avoid such catastrophes even those of us without green thumbs do our best to keep herbs in our kitchen. The only drawback is that having five small pots takes up a lot of counter space and also can attract bugs. Leaving herbs out on the window is not an option because they won’t survive extreme weather and maybe birds will get to it before you do. But this herb garden design takes care of all these minor inconveniences while making sure your plants thrive!

The design lets you have access to fresh greenery 365 days a year without sacrificing any counter space or causing a mess. It is compact and works wonderfully for small urban apartments or big suburban houses. What makes this herb garden unique its compactness because it makes it invisible in your kitchen space. Designer Igor Abakumov drew inspiration from his own life experience for this. “My mom is a real culinary virtuoso and she often complains about the lack of specific greens in the store. And then I got the idea to design a home garden that will be built into the kitchen and will delight with greenery all year round,” he explains.

Simply named Home Garden, this nifty design is basically a herb drawer that is built into the kitchen. It comes with an integrated smart system that monitors the moisture and temperature of plants, as well as their freshness and readiness for use. It is 2021, so of course, all of this can be adjusted directly from your phone. Home Garden is one of the entries for the James Dyson Awards 2021.

This smart microgreens garden resembles a wall-mounted circular Dyson fan!

Micro-gardening has been a trend in urban areas but it had an explosive growth during the pandemic. Quarantine turned many people into home chefs and having fresh basil to top your pizza brings you a little ‘solace’ during uncertain times. Not everyone has a patio or a rooftop to cultivate microgreens so we turn to Solace – a design that makes growing these vegetables easier and more accessible!

Up to 37 million acres of farmland have been lost to urbanization and climate change between 1997 and 2012 alone – that is 3 acres of agricultural land lost per minute and you can expect the numbers to be a lot more jarring for the years leading up to the present. So how does growing and consuming microgreens help with this issue? For starters, growing microgreens requires less water, no pesticides, minimal land/soil, and they also reduce waste. Microgreens are not only cost-efficient but also 40 times more nutritious in vitamin K, C, E, and more. With product designs like Solace, city-dwellers can ‘reap’ the benefits for their health, wallet and do their bit for the planet.

Solace is a scalable and sustainable solution to grow food in small spaces. It has a system that uses wick moisture with a biostrate grow mat and automatic lighting which makes it easy for beginners to start their home gardens. The appliance is also integrated with an intuitive app that guides you through germination, growing and harvesting phases. The circular design increases the functionality of the product by utilizing available space instead of spreading out further. The growing light also serves as a lovely ambient light or night light – the design has a simple yet futuristic aesthetic – a lot like the Dyson circular fan actually. It has a detachable rechargeable battery and I think if it ever goes into production, the team should consider making the battery solar powered so it makes Solace even more sustainable.

Unlike traditional gardens, Solace is mounted on your wall which saves countertop space or the need to have a patio if you want your own microgreens garden. The award-winning design helps you live more sustainably and healthily while embracing the new normal.

This modular vertical garden was designed to be a self-watering, self-powered, space saver!

Do you, like me, wake up with an urge to add something in your home to elevate your interior design game since we are spending all our time indoors? I think the top items I gravitate towards are air purifiers (obvious reasons), kitchen essentials, sleep-inducing designs, and plants (special attention to those that need no managing!). I was super intrigued by Moltke which is a modular vertical garden designed for both interior and exterior use. Plants liven your home, purify your air, give you herbs if you choose to have some, and make you seem like an adult who has their life together as much as one can in a pandemic – making Moltke a perfect combination of some of my favorite things without sacrificing space!

There is an increasing need to grow fresh food in small spaces without having to devote too much time or effort. Vertical gardens in the market right now either lack functionality or are super expensive. Moltke was designed to give you an affordable indoor/outdoor garden that fits your aesthetic needs and is self-sufficient. “The main feature of this vertical garden is the ease of use. No prior experience required, just use the pre-planted seed pods and the self-watering system that requires no power – this will keep the plants self-sustained,” says Vintu. Parts of the structure are kept transparent to allow more light for the roots. It works for an indoor setting as well as outdoor because you don’t need any external power supply. The ‘growth light’ in each module ensures that the plants stay healthy even if there isn’t enough natural light.

You can also use the wastewater produced by air conditioning units to refill the water tanks. The mesh net on top makes sure that no debris gets inside your planters especially if it is outdoors. Modularity is becoming crucial in product designs so they can fit with our ever-changing flexible lifestyle. You can add as many units of Moltke as you want, and there are solutions for bigger needs as well like the 3L or 5L custom water tanks that will hold more modules for plants. Moltke gives you the premium planter features without the cost, need for extra electronic equipment, or components that are hard to mount/take up a lot of space. While it is unclear what kind of in-built power supply the design is using, it would be cool to make it solar powered!

The Herb Garden gives you the independence of growing produce in your own home

It’s honestly funny how demand and supply have a way of working. Herbs that cost me a couple of cents for a bunch a month ago, now cost nearly a dollar – 5 times as much. The funny bit isn’t just the price gouging… it’s also the fact that these herbs routinely get sold out. This pandemic and its immediate effect on the economy and the food supply chain has made me want to take to home gardening again. I used to have basil, coriander, oregano, bird’s eye chilli, and an aloe vera plant, but given that I used to travel a lot on a monthly basis, all I’m left with is an aloe-vera that’s sort of on the fence. I’ve wanted to take to home-gardening again. I’ve been blessed with a room with an attached balcony that gets tonnes of sunlight, and to be honest, I’m probably not traveling anywhere for the foreseeable year, and I honestly can’t wrap my head around paying 5 times the amount for something that I can grow in my own house… and neither should you.

To be honest, home-gardening has gotten RIDICULOUSLY easy over the past few years. You don’t really need the sun, soil, or even daily watering anymore as any sufficiently advanced planter (and there are a fair few out there) take care about everything from lighting to watering and even plant health and nutrition. A lot of these planters are designed to be kept anywhere around the house, and can easily handle growing herbs, sprouts, microgreens, and aromatics in a way that’s easier than going to the supermarket, or than saying “Alexa, order me some basil”.

The Herb Garden takes a modular approach to indoor gardening. With a self-sufficient system that takes care of all your plant’s needs, a hydroponics water tank that lets you grow plants without soil, and a pod-based system that allows you to plug in and grow as many as 39 different herbs at the same time, the Herb Garden is the equivalent of having an entire backyard orchard, but in a form factor that’s just 30 inches long and nearly 8 inches wide. The Herb Garden takes the guess-work out of gardening too, with sensors that help it understand what your plant needs, and WiFi connectivity that lets you know when to replenish its internal water reservoir. The Herb Garden’s internal app even lets you know when your plants are ripe for picking, and supplies you with a list of recipes based on what you’ve got growing in your ‘backyard’, so to speak.

The autonomous gardening system comes with a hard-wood planter base, a lighting module embedded in an acrylic frame, and an anodized aluminum framework that lets you dock seed pods in the garden. Crafted to perfection, the wood base and lucite light frame allow the garden to complement most homes, and the greenery growing in it adds a wonderful touch of color to the apartment. The sunlight-mimicking LED lighting system focuses light downwards at each individual plant, allowing different plants to get different lighting based on their need. You can even adjust lighting patterns within the app, or switch on a ‘Vacation Mode’ that takes care of your garden for you while you’re away. Similarly, the Herb Garden uses hydroponics to keep your plant healthy and hydrated using a water-based system instead of soil. With a dual-reservoir setup, the self-growing garden can take care of your plants for weeks, if not days. Growing your plants is as simple as adding a seed-pod (which you get with each Herb Garden, or buy off the Herb Garden app) in an empty slot on the 13×3 grid. You can either fill the garden up with small microgreens, or space the pods apart if you’re looking to grow bigger plants. The app recognizes your garden’s layout, customizing year-round care based on each plant, and even notifying you when they’re ready to harvest… so all you need to do is sit back and watch your year-round garden grow herbs and greens for free and never succumb to the pressure of heading to the supermarket when it’s safer to stay at home, or even paying 5 to 10 times the amount for something you can quite easily cultivate on your own.

The Herb Garden – Professional-grade Intelligent Indoor Garden System

Designed and developed by a team of MIT engineers, the Herb Garden utilizes the latest hydroponics plant-growth technology for growing fresh herbs and vegetables all year long that could proudly be displayed in any home.

Herb Garden Features

Unmatched intelligence. With a built-in computer with WiFi connectivity, over a dozen integrated sensors, and the highest power LEDs, the Herb Garden is able to grow Michelin quality herbs and produce with minimal effort in any home.

Sense the environment. The integrated sensors and their machine learning monitors the environment and automatically adjust the garden’s settings for optimal plant growth.

Size matters. The Herb Garden is big enough to grow many full-sized herb plants at once. These mature plants allow for continual pruning and harvesting every day for months.

Infinitely adaptable. Every plant has a different size and shape. The 3 by 12 unit grid tray lets you grow 39 small plants at once or space out larger full-size plants.

Bring in the sunshine. Their grow lights are four times more powerful than competing indoor gardens. 30 professional-grade, high power, full spectrum, grow LEDs from Germany and 30 polymer lenses from Finland were used to create the most powerful lighting array available in a home garden.

The light bar has an internal thermal management system with a variable-speed fan that keeps the lights running cool while making no more noise than a whisper. A separate array of 48 low-power candlelight LEDs provide a gentle and soft illumination for your plants, and adjust according to the ambience.

Always fresh. The dual-reservoir design helps maintain a constant water level for roots of the plants so that they are always properly hydrated and nourished. The roots stay fully hydrated even if there is an unexpected power loss.

Precision growing technology. The app is connected to your garden’s computer, and it will send you real-time updates on your garden’s status. You’ll know when to add water, when to harvest your herbs, and even how to prepare them for cooking.
