iOS 13 isn’t coming to the iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 or iPad Air

Bad news if you're still rocking an iPhone 5S, iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus and hoped to install iOS 13 -- Apple won't support the latest version of the OS on those devices. Owners of the original iPad Air, iPad Mini2 and iPad Mini 3 will miss out on th...

OMG #Bendgate: Bent iPhone 6 Plus Devices Will Be Replaced Under Warranty

iphone6-bend-test

Set aside world hunger, rampant terrorism, an increasingly ambitious Russia… forget all that stuff: the new iPhone 6 Plus has a tendency to bend in people’s pockets! But fret not, if your skinny jeans have given Cupertino’s new mini iPad mini an unintended curve, word is that it can be replaced under warranty.

Folks at TheNextWeb asked about the issue via Apple support chat were the representative said it is “100 percent up to the Genius you speak at the store.” The Genius will first conduct a test which is called the Visual Mechanical Inspection and if it passes that the unit will be replaced under warranty, provided that all of the guidelines are met. If not then customers will have to pay for a replacement.

It sounds like Apple is still deciding how to handle the issue, and it’s a little disconcerting to know that the fate of your super expensive giant phone is completely in the hands of a potentially pretentious Apple Genius. And we’re not sure what those guidelines are, but we suppose they involve there not being an obvious ding that would indicate the phone was dropped, rather than gently bent while in the comfort of your hipster pants.

Apple Gives FaceTime a Boost in iPhone 6

???????????????????????????????

The iPhone 6 and 6 Plus are poised to revolutionize video calling.

Almost every science fiction movie ever has portrayed video calling as the preferred communication method of the future, yet as we move into the future, communication tends to move the opposite direction. Communication via text, through email, text messaging, or social media, seems to be the preferred means of communication.

Although Apple has lead meany in the video chat crowd through its FaceTime platform, the medium has yet to meet widespread mobile adoption adoption on smartphones even though the feature has been available for several years, is is relatively popular on less mobile Apple hardware such as iMacs, MacBooks, and even iPads.

Initially, it was impractical to stream data over 3G speeds, but as networks upgraded to 4G networks, data caps made sending and recieving video for voice chat an expensive proposition.

Going unmentioned at Apple’s keynote last week, but uncovered by Apple Insider, the iPhone 6 and the iPhone 6 Plus both use the H.256 video codec for video chat. H.256, also known as HEVC, or High Efficiency Video Coding, offers the ability for FaceTime to stream the same video quality as previous iPhones, but at half the bandwidth.

Matthew Fleming, signals processing guru, said “This has the potential to give Apple a serious advantage in the mobile video calling domain where bandwidth is at a premium.” Not only will networks be more capable of handling video chat for the new iPhones, but will be able to do it with less of a hit to consumers’ data caps.

Obviously, data networks are always improving, but improvements in efficiencies in devices, software, and networks all work together to constantly enable us to do more from our phones.  From video chat, to cloud storage, to streaming media, enhancements of this type benefit all mobile data use.

With Apple now entering the smartwatch race with the Apple Watch, maybe a future iteration will allow users to to finally be able to recreate their favorite sci-fi moments, while waiting for Apple to invent Hologram Chat.

Record Pre-Order Sales for iPhone 6

iPhone 6Did you pre-order an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus? You’re not the only one. When customers were given the go ahead to pre-order the iPhone 5 two years ago, 2 million of you did so on the first day. With the iPhone 6 pre-orders that first-day number doubled to 4 million.

The numbers aren’t in from the weekend yet, but it was estimated that pre-orders would reach the 10 million mark by the end of day on Sunday.

If you pre-ordered your phone quickly, yours will probably be in the mail by this coming Friday. If you were late at the pre-order rush, yours might take as long as October to reach you. This is because of that good old “supply and demand” concept we all learned about in Economics 101. The company said demand has outstripped the supply.

If you haven’t pre-order and want one, your best bet is to find an AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile or Verizon Wireless retailer near you and get in line.

Apple Officially Announces the iPhone 6

iPhone 6We are pretty sure the world stopped spinning Tuesday Sept, 9th in order for everyone to hear the latest news from Apple. They have officially announced that they are releasingApple Watch in early 2015 and the iPhone 6 later this month. No big shockers here.

What was a bit of a shock however was that Apple was taking a step forward by upgrading the physical size of the iPhone. There will be two different sizes; the 6 will get you a 4.7 inch screen while the 6 Plus will get you a 5.5 inch screen. They have also slimmed it down again from the 5, and it will now be one of the slimmest smart phones on the market.

Most of you in today’s social media world want us to cut right to the chase about the camera. It is still the same 8MP rear facing camera, but the new version has a wide angle iSight lens, an auto focus feature that is 2x faster than its predecessor, f/2.2 aperture and greater noise reduction.

The front facing camera was also upgraded a bit. It will now allow you to FaceTime in HD and it will let in 81% more light to make sure you are not in the dark in broad day light.

The iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus will come with the iOS operating system already installed on the devices.

The release day is set for next Friday September 19th. The cost for a SIM-free phone starts at $649, while with a 2 year contract with most carriers it is starting at $199.

If you get an iPhone 6 next week please comment to let us know how you like it!
