The perfect phone podium

q_dock_1

I’m in a dilemma. I really like the minimal approach to the Q dock by OOSH, but the gadget geek/designer in me can’t ignore the glaring problem I see in the design. The Q dock has this beautiful minimal thing going for it, but at the risk of not providing a proper docking space for the phone. The phone literally rests against the weight of the lightning connector, which seems like a disaster waiting to happen. However, I could be wrong. Maybe the iPhone’s port and the lightning pin can withstand that much of bending stress, but given how sacredly I treat my technology, I’d probably have to pass.

The dock, however has quite a gem-like, clear cut design. Available in three materials, copper, brass, and stainless steel, the Q comes with friction-building rubber pads at the base. The Q’s finish is also such that it ages with time. The metal begins corroding in a beautiful manner, giving the dock the impression of being time-tested and antique.

Meet Sarvi Dock, A Fantastic Stand and Charger for iOS and Android Devices

Sarvi Dock 01

There are many docks out there that can also charge your device while holding them in a comfortable to use position. Just when you think you have found the perfect one, you discover a major drawback, but thankfully, that’s not the case with the Sarvi Dock.

A product of Sarvi Designs, this dock overcomes one of the main problems of desk chargers: it works perfectly fine even if the iOS or Android device is in a case, no matter how thick that is. The case’s shape is also irrelevant, so it can be a metal or PC bumper, a silicone case, or even one of those leather book cases. Best of all, it even works when your phone is equipped with one of those extended battery packs. The only thing that matters is to have unrestricted access to the phone’s or tablet’s port.

Here’s what Sarvi Design had to say about their product:

“Sarvi Dock was the first dock designed with cases as the main focus. We found that today most people use protective cases of different sizes to safeguard their devices.Finding a dock to fit protective cases can be difficult if not impossible. This is why we created Sarvi Dock – a charge and sync dock that works with any smartphone or tablet, in portrait or landscape orientation virtually any case and cable (third party, factory or even flat cables).

Works With More Cables? – Sarvi Dock has a universal kit that works with factory cables, all MFI cables, virtually all third party cables and even flat cables. We also added more cable channels to fit different sized cables. Designed for devices that work with Lightning, Micro USB and 3.0 USB cables. Sarvi Docks do not come with any cables.”

It’s not only the functionality, but also the design that sets the Servi Dock apart from its counterparts. With a curved body that holds the mobile device at an angle and with channels that enable you to use round and flat cables with an equal ease, this stand

The company is currently running a crowdfunding campaign on Kickstarter, where it hopes to raise $30K in the following 45 days. Backers have already pledged 34% of that, so there’s a great chance of the Sarvi Docker becoming a reality. Pledge $25 (+shipping, depending on where you live) to get yours in March 2015.

Review: Felix MonkeyOh Charging Dock

felix monkeyoh in use Review: Felix MonkeyOh Charging Dock
If you recall back almost a year ago, we covered this before it was released. Well now the Felix MonkeyOh Review: Felix MonkeyOh Charging Dock is loose in the wild- the wilds of the retail world that is. What this phone dock does is quite simple (and cute)- it’s a monkey that holds your phone and your charging cord. Simple as that. Your phone slides neatly into his monkey hands (or his arms if you’re using something a bit bigger than an iPhone) while his legs hold it up.
felix monkeyoh Review: Felix MonkeyOh Charging Dock
The MonkeyOh requires one of those square iPhone USB charging plugs that comes with every iPhone (but then you can plug any USB cord into that) which slides perfectly into his back. You plug your USB cord into his mouth, wrap any excess cord around his back, and thread the gadget plug side end of your cord up between his legs. What you get is a cute monkey phone holder. We only tested it with iPhones (4S and 5) here because that’s all we have (baaaaaa) but his hands were a perfect fit for those devices.

The Felix MonkeyOh is made of plastic and is extremely easy to use. We like that. It keeps your cords wrapped up neatly and doesn’t leave the business end dangling in mid-air. We like that. He holds your phone perfectly while charging, keeping counters clutter-free. We like that. It’s lightweight and portable. We like that. There’s really no negatives (maybe a half point deduction for requiring an Apple plug?) And it’s whimsical and useful. We like that. Overall review: we monkey like it.

Smart and Original iPhone Dock

iPhones, due to their massive production volumes, cannot afford to wear a design that reflects the personality of its individual users. Hence the uni-sexual, personality neutral, clean geometric design. Legit. But why should its third party aftermarket accessories mimic the same impersonal design? Even when the novelty factor associated with the iphone form is wearing off? In a market flooded with M’apple ( I’m Apple too! ) products, the ‘Infinity Dock, is a breath of fresh air. Unlike their metrosexual counterparts, this sharp featured, meched up, all metal iPhone dock is unapologetically masculine in a refined manner.

Designed by Thomas Wietecki and Zack Cram, the Infinity Dock is intended to be a mechanical desktop sculpture. Manufactured at their own machine shop, the two piece Aluminum dock comes in multiple finishes and colors. A finely knuckled anodized aluminium screw holds the unique door mechanism for cable management. Its micro suction pads enable firm grip on smooth surfaces and the custom mini USB port enables the dock to serve your other devices too.

Stop The Rebel Scum And Make ‘em Dance: AT-AT iPod Dock

AT-AT iPod Dock 1

The Empire owes its massive strength to both the Dark Side of the Force and to technology, although it’s only the second one which will charge your iPod or iPhone.

AT-AT iPod Dock 1

Etsy seller is the mastermind behind this creation: an iPod dock shaped just like the pride and joy of the empire, the AT-AT Imperial Walker units. The creator describes it as an “app-enhanced (fancy) stereo speaker that’s bursting with sound. The digital amplifier means the speaker effortlessly produces low resonance sounds, crystal-clear acoustics and thumping bass. With the addition of 6 EQ settings, FM radio and app-enhanced technology, it offers a great combination of sound and features to effortlessly fill your room with music.” The best part? He’s still making these babies, and you can get one for about $315 USD. You can thank us later!

Foaster Dock Toasts iPhones with Lightning Cables

Designer Mike Charles wanted to have a dock for his iPhone that would not only reduce cable clutter but blend in his kitchen as well. He ended up with the Foaster, a dock for the iPhone 5, 5S and 5C that looks just like a toaster. He gets bonus points for not naming it the iToaster.

foaster iphone 5 5s 5c dock 620x421magnify

The Foaster has a plastic body with aluminum trim. It will come with two MFi-certified Lightning-to-USB cables so you can charge up to two iPhones at once. Sadly, unlike a real toaster its slots are not spring-loaded. The phones won’t sink when you plug them in and they certainly won’t pop off when they’re done charging. But at least you can easily plug and unplug your iPhone from the dock.

Pledge at least $79 (USD) on Kickstarer to get a Foaster as a reward. What’s next? Foven for iPads?

Radio Dock Turns Your iPhone into an Old School Radio

Get that nostalgic look of a classic counter top radio with today’s modern technology with the Radio Dock. This iPhone dock was designed by Jonas Damon and is made of beech wood and brass. Slide your iPhone 4 or 5 in, pull your power connector through the dock and use the public radio app to listen to the radio (or play or stream your own music).radiodockmain2 Radio Dock Turns Your iPhone into an Old School Radio
The handle design allows you to flip it behind the dock and prop up the whole thing so your tunes are blasted in the proper direction. Now since this is a dock and not a speaker dock, that blasting will have to come from your iPhone’s internal speaker. Maybe that’s not quite the spirit of radio but either way those invisible airwaves will crackle with life once the music’s flowing. Measures 7″ x 6.5″ x 1.25″.

Most Over the Top iPhone Dock Ever

ireliquary Most Over the Top iPhone Dock Ever
Our favorite Bavarian photographer and one-of-a-kind Apple accessory maker Georg Dinkel has done it again. You might remember him from such over the top creations as this Ridiculously Ornate iPad Dock or this Gothic Inspired iPad Dock. Well this time he’s gone off the deep end and created the iReliquary, a 31″ tall church-like shrine to the iPhone. Underneath all that glitz and glam is a 35 watt 2.1 sound system with the subwoofer under the dome and 4 tweeters in the towers.

Georg made this incredible iPhone dock from wood, polymer clay, rhinestones, gold and silver powder, and electronics. There’s a lightning connector to power the iPhone and Bluetooth to connect to the speakers. The craziest part about all this? Georg doesn’t even own an iPhone!!!! Watch the video below for a closer look at this insanity:

Awesome job, Georg.
