Nike-inspired electric skateboard designed to charge while being carried in it’s backpack!

In today’s day and age, Skateboarding is not only considered a sport but a recreational activity, an art form and a method of transportation! It’s turned into a trend that is taking over the millennial world. With the popularity this action sport is gaining, it’s no shocker that designers are coming up with more and more advanced concepts for skateboards. One such concept is by South Korean industrial designer Jaehyuk Lim. He says “A lot of people [are] using Personal Mobility. But when you [are] not using Personal Mobility, it’s very hard to carry around. I designed the Personal mobility device, which is easy to carry and charge at the same time.”

Lim believes that skateboards are efficient devices of personal mobility, but when not in use, riders are relegated to carrying them around in their hands, which can be quite tiresome. Hence, he came up with the concept of the Nike Electric Cruiser Board; an electric personal transportation device that is user-friendly and easy to carry around. The board comes along with a “Cruiser backpack” where you can dock the board once it is not in use. The backpack “recharges the board”, prepping it for your next skateboarding adventure! So, instead of carrying around these heavy boards in your arms, they can now rest (and recharge) in a comfy and might I add super stylish backpack!

Sleek with a futuristic appeal, the Electric Cruiser is embossed in black and white, but it also comes in a darker grey color. The wheels are slighter larger and more grooved than your usual skateboard wheels, but that will only allow smoother transportation from one spot to another. Boasting Nike’s iconic Swoosh on several spots including the center of the wheels, at the nose of the skateboard and on the center of the board platform, this Nike Cruiser Board concept is a device I’m sure all skateboarding enthusiasts would love to get their hands on someday!

The Action Cam Every Cyclist Needs

excam_layout

Jaehyuk Lim’s EX action cam concept aims to provide serious cyclists with a streamlined way of recording all their two-wheeled adventures. The gimbal design allows it to be effortlessly attached to the handlebars while padding and shock absorption ensure stability and device security through rough terrain. Even while riding, users can adjust the angle at any moment to capture the best moments no matter what direction they’re coming from. I wasn’t originally sold on the pseudo-retro look but it’s actually grown on me! That robust, swept-back body likely helps in terms of aerodynamics and durability in the event of a fall or crash (fingers crossed).

This Makes Sous Vide a Cinch

chef_sous_layout

Sous vide has largely been limited to restaurants but the Chef Sous Vide Machine makes it possible for anyone to enjoy this precision cooking from the comfort of home. This elegant countertop appliance, about the size of a microwave, is styled like a vintage stove with minimalistic controls and brass detail. Users can simply adjust the temperature settings to the requirements of the food being cooked, drop in the vacuum-sealed item, and set the timer to cook it to perfection. The vessel will keep water circulating to maintain temperature across all parts so you can set it and forget it! To save valuable counter space, it features a built-in mini oven in the lower section so you can ditch your toaster and make room for Chef!

Audi… From Roads to Clothes!

Print

Designers seem to show a lot of love towards Audi. Scan through YD and you’ll find it decorated with Audi concepts ranging from the obvious automobiles all to now even consumer appliances!

Adding to that ever growing list of conceptual Audi designs is the Audi iron by Jaehyuk Lim. The Audi brand is all about superiority and dominance and the iron design does that with its space-age form language! A recessed LED strip on the base illuminates when switched on, also serving as a color indication of the temperature. I assume the way the steam escapes from the underside of the iron adds to the drama of the futuristic lighting. Sounds like something Audi would do, right?!

P.S. You can’t miss the ever so charismatic chrome logo on the front of the iron. Gives it almost the feel of a car, driving forwards and backwards on your clothes!

Power of Minus

Changing how you weigh and buy vegetables and fruits from the supermarket, the Minus Scale is quite a revolutionary concept. Typically we pick out the veggie or fruit, fill it in a plastic bag, weigh the contents and then punch the label. With the Minus Scale, the digital display indicates the price and the weight of the item picked from the tray.

For example, if you pick one tomato out of the tray, the display will indicate its weight and price and print the label accordingly. Very clever and time saving idea, however, people will have to queue up to make this run accurately.

The MINUS Scale is a 2015 iF Student Design Award winner!
