When Braun made a toothbrush

superklar_1

In a way, Oral B and Braun are a match made in heaven. They both push boundaries innovation, creating products that aren’t just functionally superior, they’re the most popular brands in their domain. So when I see the SuperKlar, a toothbrush concept with Oral-B’s bristle technology, and Braun’s prowess in electronic personal care products, I’m breaking the bank!

The SuperKlar comes as a complete kit that takes care of your teeth with signature efficiency and dedication. The electric toothbrush comes with a holder that can get plugged directly into a socket. This allows you to wall-mount the toothbrush + stand without really wall-mounting anything! It even comes with a horizontal screen that tells you the time (because bathrooms desperately need clocks). Another nifty bit in the design is the fact that the cover case for the toothbrush actually doubles down as a tumbler to use while brushing. Now if that isn’t some clever designing right there, kindly fax me an explanation of what is!

When earphones become your MP3 players

ak_g12_1

Wait. Earphone Charging Cases can be controllers too?!? Why didn’t anyone think of that! Instead of having touch sensitive earphones (with all their single-tap/double-tap commands that are heckin’ difficult to remember) just put controls on the case, right? The AK G-12 does precisely that. The charging case also acts as a controller (with a dedicated volume dial), a screen (that displays what song you’re playing), and even comes with microSD card support (allowing you to play all your music directly out of your charging case!). Bluetooth earphones ultimately rely on the mobile phone for music storage and playback, but the AK G-12 allows you to put the music IN your earphones, making it truly revolutionary.

I also give the design major points for the pen-clip detail on the charging case that allows it to fasten easily to pockets and more importantly, look like a harmless old LAMY pen (that’s less likely to be stolen). Brilliant!

3D Print your own music!

prinpl_1

I just adore the Prinpl. You know why? Let’s first take a look at the name. It’s a lovely amalgamation of PRINt and PLay. It also sounds like Pimple, which does make sense once you get to know what the Prinpl does. That’s the second reason why I adore the Prinpl. It takes one of my favorite toys and gives it a modern twist. Designed as a New-Age MusicBox, the Prinpl actually reads 3d printed discs with braille-like bumps on them. The bumps then interfere with prongs on a fabricated piece of sheet metal, plucking at it to generate a tune. The cool thing about Prinpl is that you can now effectively 3D print your own tunes and play them on the Prinpl’s hypnotically soothing inbuilt-instrument. The catch is that this phenomenon only plays short, looped pieces of musical data, but the ability to print your own tunes means you can generate your own mini-library of music. Prinpl doesn’t however limit itself to just 3D printed discs. It also reads conventional data and mp3 CDs, making it an instrument at some times, and a music player at others. Versatile!

It also comes with an app, allowing you to remote-control the playback features. Color me impressed!

Lifehack cutlery!

minuspoon_1

I don’t always generate stories to connect my life to the products I talk about on Yanko. They’re all life experiences and stories, and this one is too! People who’ve read my stuff know I’m a tea person. However, I haven’t been telling you the complete truth. I’m actually a sugar person. I can’t have green tea, or black tea, or any of that tea with honey stuff. I need my old fashioned milky tea with dollops of sugar. Given that diabetes just might become a concern for me in the future, I’ve made an effort to cut back. However, I have a slight OCD thing going, so I can’t really put half a teaspoon of sugar in anything. The sugar always has to form this perfect little pile on the spoon when I scoop some out. It’s a strange problem to have, but it isn’t uncommon, and it can be quite unhealthy. Minuspoon is for people like me who subconsciously take large spoonfuls of sugar with their beverages. Designed with a bump on the inside, it actually scoops lesser sugar than intended, but cleverly makes the spoon look like it’s brimming with those sweet little crystals. Quite a clever hack, eh? Also works with the Nutella obsessed kinds.

The Easy Breezy Rota!

rota_dehumidifier_2_1

The same way a clothes iron and a waffle iron are pretty much the same device being used in two different ways, the Rota is a dehumidifier that can be used in two different ways. Not only can it be used as a household appliance to make the climate more pleasant, it comes with swiveling racks that can be used to hang clothes, which in turn can be quick-dried by the dehumidifier. Way to get two birds with one stone, eh??

Rota’s wall mounted design allows it to be used horizontally as well as vertically, based on wall-space. For a device that combines two appliance in one, a space-saving adaptable layout is quite a gift! Perfect for your bachelor pad!

The Rota is a winner of the Red Dot Design Award for the year 2015.

A Sleepy Time Companion

sleeping_01

If you’re like me and love falling asleep with a little bit of light on, you also know how disruptive that light can be once you actually fall asleep! Then there’s getting up to shut it off… and by the time you get back to bed you’re entire sleep pattern is a mess.

That is, unless you have “Sleeping I”… its an innovative nightlight that gradually dims as you doze off. Just like you, the adorable character it closes its sleepy “eyes” to reduce the amount of light showing through. Better yet, there’s a built-in speaker so it doubles as a Bluetooth audio device when you’re awake. Designed for kids who have trouble falling asleep, it’s one some of us adults can appreciate too!
