These laser-cut flat-packed wood panels assemble into a beautifully edgy tornado-inspired lampshade

The beauty of the Storm Lamp by Julia Kononenko is that there isn’t any method to its mad design. The lamp comes with a variety of laser-cut wooden panels that can be arranged/oriented in any way you like, because as its name suggests, the Storm Lamp is all about beauty in chaos. Looking almost like an abstract tornado, the lamp is entirely made from flat pieces of laser-cut plywood that are either left plain or painted black. When assembled together, they create a 3D form using the Gestalt visual law of continuity. Moreover, the jagged edges themselves illuminate to look like chaotic lightning strikes, reinforcing the product’s inspiration!

“The edges resemble the riot of nature”, says designer Julia Kononenko, who created the lamp for Polish brand Skandica. “The light passing through the plane of the lampshade reflects on them and resembles lightning strikes. In addition to the soft glow that fills the room with soft light, the rays create a quaint pattern on the walls of the room in the form of vertical lines, bringing a special atmosphere to the interior”, Julia adds.

The lamps are available in both hanging and floor formats. While the hanging variant is entirely made from thin sheets of plywood, the floor lamp also comes with a wooden pole and a metal base.

Refocus and get zen in your hectic office space with this ‘green’ desk organizer!

I must say that my work desk isn’t as organized as I would want it to be. In fact, sometimes the disturbing clutter tends to affect my productivity and hamper my creativity. And I’m pretty sure everyone’s been on this boat at some point or the other. Ukrainian product designer Julia Kononenko created the ‘Eco Pot’, an intriguing little product that organizes your desk and adds a pop of green to it! The multipurpose desk accessory is basically a flower pot with an integrated pen holder.

Divided into two sections, the smaller square-shaped section has been reserved to store your pens and pencils. Whereas the elevated larger section functions as a planter. Add a succulent or two and watch your desk bloom! Crafted from elmwood, Eco Pot is also lined with glass vessels, to ensure that neither the water nor soil damage the wood structure. The glass cover also helps to keep your desk dust-free even if the plants haven’t been planted. Block-like in nature, you can place a couple of Eco Pots together to create a miniature garden, welcoming a wave of nature into your workspace. And that bit of perfectly maintained green patch is all you need to help you cut away all the workplace clutter and give you a moment of zen as well as satisfaction when things get hectic at the office.

The plant potter aka desktop organizer comes in two versions, with different diameters for the holes of the pen/pencil holders. So you can choose the size that fits the needs of your stationery. Having this touch of green in an otherwise industrial and claustrophobic space such as our work desk will only help to clear our minds and charge up our productivity!

Nuts About this Lighting!

nutc_00

We’re just nutty about the Nut-C collection of pendant style lighting! Inspired by the designers favorite type, the top wood section with an elongated stem resembles the cute little hat of a hazelnut. Its rather simple silhouette meets an interesting construction of varied materials held together in unique way. The wood, metal, and leather are a winning combination and give the design a dapper vibe that will warm any space!

A Bright Idea

Outlets… they’re everywhere and yet never there when you need them! Often times, it’s lighting that takes up valuable plug space. The Bulb Charger is a handy lighting solution that eliminates this problem by integrating USB ports placed directly at the end of the bulb! This way, if you’re at home, a cafe or anywhere else, you can find a place to charge your devices even when the outlets are being used. It’s a design that’ll make you say “DUH! Why didn’t I think of that?”

Connecting Light and Architecture

lamp_01

If the “Sand Bridge” pendant looks familiar, it’s because the lamp’s distinct frame takes inspiration from the iconic red cantilevered bridge. The specific one that inspired the designers is known as the Sand Bridge in Poland. Constructed from sheet metal and aluminum, the design is light yet adds a sense of weight and industrial style to any space’s atmosphere. It’s right at home in loft-like spaces!
