This compact multitool fits on your keychain to help you get stuff done no time flat

Life’s problems may sometimes seem complex, but sometimes, all it takes is the right tool for the right job to solve them. Unfortunately, most of us are caught unprepared to face these tasks, forcing us to fumble in our bags or pockets only to realize that we don’t have the correct tool at hand. After all, it’s nearly impossible to bring with you all the tools you could possibly need wherever you go, especially for those of us who have embraced minimalist lifestyles and compact everyday carries or EDCs. Fortunately, our world is also filled with ingenious and creative people who have come face-to-face with that same feeling of helplessness, people who designed this small wonder of a multitool that can solve more than 10 daily problems but is still small enough to actually fit into the pocket of your slimmest jeans.

Ever found yourself at a loss when trying to open a package with no box cutter in sight? Or how about dying to drink that ice-cold drink but don’t have anything to open the bottle with? Every one of us has experienced the desire to have as many life-essential tools within our reach as possible, but no one wants to carry a toolbox with them everywhere. Even the so-called multitools are bulky and are sometimes even disallowed in some places, and they can’t even handle some of the basic needs we have to complete the task at hand.

The Lever Gear Edge XT was made precisely to solve this problem, providing an indispensable tool that you can keep in your pocket or even your keychain so that you’ll never be caught unprepared ever again. Despite its small size, this talented product provides 10 tools in one compact body. That includes a retractable utility blade, a quick box opener, a Phillips screwdriver, a bottle opener, a wire stripper, a flathead screwdriver, a prybar, a metric ruler, an inch ruler, and a hex bit holder. That pretty much covers every task you’ll ever face, from opening packages, cutting craft paper, fixing furniture, or popping a cold drink after a hard day’s work.

Quick and safe utility blade.

Changing blades is easy.

The Edge XT’s appeal doesn’t just come from its utility but also from its meticulous attention to detail. That blade, for example, is just a standard #11 craft blade, so you can easily remove and replace it as needed, especially to get through security checkpoints. And while that blade is super-easy to deploy and retract with just your thumb, a safety lock makes sure it stays safely in place and keeps you and your bag’s contents out of harm’s way.

With a durable 420HC stainless steel body, the Edge XT is also designed to last. Even the blade slider and lock are made from glass-reinforced nylon polymer to help them survive repeated use. And with a silver or black satin finish, the tool will look handsome in your hand or dangling from your keychain or bag. For a limited time, you can get the Edge XT for just $29 through the early bird special on Kickstarter. The Lever Gear Edge XT gives you a multi-functional workhorse to face life’s unexpected problems quickly, skillfully, and in style.

The ‘World’s Smallest Game Boy’ is tiny enough to fit on your keychain, and it actually plays games

Smaller than the display on your Apple Watch, the Thumby holds the title of the smallest gaming console to be publicly available to consumers. It’s a little over an inch in length, and 0.7 inches in width, and weighs a paltry 4.8 grams, or about as much as an individual AirPod. Armed with a 72×40 Monochrome OLED display and 2MB of onboard storage, the Thumby comes with 5 games pre-loaded and allows you to add more using a MicroUSB cable. And in case you’re wondering, yes it runs Doom… or a version of it.

First started as a crowdfunding project, Thumby went on to get successfully backed into existence. It’s roughly the same size and shape as a Chiclet and even comes with a lanyard hole that lets you string the gaming console to your keychain, making it the world’s first gaming console that also doubles as EDC.

For a device this small, it’s honestly surprising that it actually does function as a gaming console. The Thumby comes with a Raspberry Pi Pico RP2040 under its hood, which powers the ridiculously tiny 72X40 black and white OLED display and accepts input from a 4-way D-Pad and 2 action buttons. The Thumby sports a hilarious 2MB of storage and runs on a 40mAh battery which provides 2 hours of gameplay.

The thumbnail-sized console comes in 4 colors (including a transparent variant) and ships with 5 pre-loaded games, and users can add more using the MicroUSB port below (which also charges the device). It’s hilarious how large the port seems in relation to the actual device itself, and I can’t help but wonder if the product could somehow be smaller if they did away with the port and used Bluetooth instead! The port also allows you to connect two consoles together for multiplayer gaming! You can download a wide variety of games created by the rather massive Thumby community, or even code your own games and experiences using the company’s in-browser code editor.

Apple AirTag for your glasses means you never lose that expensive eyewear!

Into the habit of misplacing things every now and then accidentally (because you’re too absent-minded)? And an Apple fan to the core? Then the Cupertino giant just made your day with their latest barrage of announcements made at the Spring Loaded event – of which the AirTag was one of the highlights. The cheapest yet Apple gadget is a stylish way to locate the things that matter the most to you – it could be anything from your car keys, backpack, or luggage. Pitted right against Amazon Tile, AirTag is the one to grab for Apple ecosystem dwellers.

While AirTag can have a countless number of uses, third-party makers like Nomad are seeing it as the perfect platform to intelligently put the Apple accessory to good use. Just like Moment caught our attention with MagSafe compatible accessories for iPhone 12, the AirTag accessories come with the promise of maximum utility in a stylish manner. The one I’ve got my eyes set on is the Glasses Strap which keeps expensive glasses from getting lost unassumingly and then buying a new pair again. When not in use, the strap hangs the eyewear from your neck. In case you lose your glasses (if you have a knack for losing eyewear, this accessory is like gold), tracking them is as easy as one can ask for!

Then there is the classy Horween leather keychain and loop accessory for keeping all the frequently used keys in one place. You are bound to forget at times where you put the keychain/loop, and with the AirTag accessory, you have one less thing to worry about. Both these AirTag accessories by Nomad are up for pre-order right away. If you are already planning to buy AirTag, these adds-on might be just what you need.

This folding carabiner + knife combination is the perfect companion for your everyday adventures!

Mike Bond’s trove of everyday carry designs has once more been opened and this time around, it can clip to your belt loop or pocket knife as the ultimate daily carry. Celebrated for his Techliners and Para-biners at Ti2 Design, Mike Bond knows pocket essentials. After all, our pockets are prime real estate for everyday carry items and there’s only so much they can fit. It’s a good thing Compano, an everyday carry keychain carabiner folding knife, designed by Mike Bond for CRKT comes with a belt-loop clip so your pockets can stay open for business.

When it comes to pocket knives, size matters – we are talking blades after all. Coming just under 1.5 inches in length, the blade is reinforced with an added layer of carbon for a stronger and more durable edge compared to stainless steel. Stainless steel knives dull blades with added chromium, while high-carbon stainless steel delivers a sharper edge and firmness to the blade, but also falls vulnerable to easy rusting when exposed to moisture. The Compano folding knife leans on a swing mechanism to unfurl the high carbon stainless steel blade, which can regularly be sharpened for everyday maintenance. Bond also integrated a spring-loaded gate from which Compano’s carabiner rebounds to easily hinge up and down. With this added carabiner feature, Bond managed to take the best features from other essential daily-carry products and merge them into a keychain-sized folding knife that readily attaches to your body as you leave your front door.

Compano also features a classic locking mechanism with a slip joint feature that secures the knife in place when either opened or closed. When using the blade, Compano reaches a full length of 4.59 inches and only weighs around 2.20 ounces so whether the knife is used for carving or slicing, the job will always feel manageable. Since this is an everyday carry product, it’s important that it embodies a look and feel that has us instinctually reach for it before leaving the house. With a black stonewash handle and bronze accents around the circular opening and carabiner, Compano has a classic look that will only improve over time with consistent use for a more crafted and sculpted looking pocket knife.

Get yourself a keychain that can charge your phone

The Mophie Powerstation Keychain gives you one more reason to make sure you’re always carrying your keys as you walk out the door. Roughly the size of a remote fob (the kind you find on car keys), the Mophie Powerstation Keychain is a small attachment for your keyring that gives you an instant 1200mAh of juice. The tiny powerbank sits along with your keys, and in dire situations, can top of your battery by as much as 50%, so you’re not struggling to book an Uber, or call your family at the end of the day on a dying battery.

The Powerstation Keychain comes with its own integrated charging cable with a Type-C jack at the end, and even packs a carabiner clip, so you can hang it by your belt-loop, or on your backpack, using it to instantly charge your Android phone whenever you see the battery dropping into no man’s land.

A mobile tripod that’s small enough to fit on your keychain

Tell me if this scenario feels familiar. You’re alone, you’ve got your hands occupied, and you need to film something on your smartphone. You prop your phone against something on your table or counter, perhaps a tin of coffee, or any stationary object you find around you. You switch on the camera, and as soon as you compose your shot, you tap the screen to hit record and your phone shakes. It’s inelegant, and is what Indians call jugaad, or a lifehack. Engineer and ex-rocket scientist Jeremiah McCoy found himself in a similar scenario and realized he wasn’t the only one… and rather than relying on a worthless lifehack, he developed a more concrete, appropriate solution to the problem.

Essentially a tripod for your phone, the Ultimate Kickstand is a small piece of plastic, the size of a thumb drive, and small enough to fit on your keychain (it even comes with its own carabiner). Fold it out, and it becomes a phone-gripping tripod that you can place anywhere, and even at any angle. It works universally, gripping any phone by the sides (you can only use it in landscape, unfortunately), and rests on two legs and a base. A worthy replacement for a coffee-tin, a couch cushion, or any cheap prop, the Ultimate Kickstand can be used to compose great shots of products, people handsfree (no more selfie-stick either!) The Ultimate Kickstand is currently 3D printed out of PLA plastic, but I don’t see why we can’t have ourselves a nice machined Aluminum one somewhere in the future. Did I also mention that it’s small enough to be carried with you everywhere on your keychain?

This clever key-swapping system definitely feels like the future

MSTR’s Linx ensures that interchanging keys between keychains will never be a headache again. Linx’s rather creative key-swapping approach isn’t time-consuming, requiring you to slide out a key by wedging your thumbnail into the keyring and rotating the key for minutes before it comes out, only to repeat the process, in reverse, for putting the key back in. Relying on a system that uses positive and negative shapes (think: jigsaw puzzle, or key and keyhole), Linx allows you to simply slide the keyring in and out of its holder by matching shapes (seen below), and sliding the keyring in or out in a manner that’s just extremely soothing to look at!

The Linx quick release system comes made in titanium, letting it have a usage cycle that probably runs for centuries, never wearing out, and providing perfectly microscopic tolerances and a smooth sliding action every single time. Available in three models, the Mini Linx connects to your keys, and slides into the Medium Linx or the Carabiner Linx, ready to be strung, hung, or just stored in your pocket. Sliding the keys in or out takes mere seconds, and can be only done through concentrated human participation. Its design, construction, and tolerance mean your keyrings will literally never slide out by accident… and swapping keys is a literal breeze!

These carabiner clips are made from a single titanium piece

tk6_titanium_keychain_1

It took Jeb Cheng quite a bit of trial and error (as you can see here), but after dozens of prototypes, he ultimately arrived at the perfect design for a single-piece carabiner made from titanium. A series of slanted cuts, spaced apart to provide a balance between flexibility and rigidity without breaking apart, are placed in the arm of the carabiner. A little pressure allows it to slide backwards (the cuts only give it flexibility in a single direction), giving you enough space to slip your keys in. Release the pin/arm and it reverts to its original position.

The FLEX TK6 Titanium Keychain comes in two variants, a slightly larger one with two movable arms, and a smaller, single arm variant. Machined from a single block of titanium, before being given a scratch-resistant coating, the FLEX TK6 will probably last forever, outliving keys and traditional locking systems; but so what if it’s 2050 and you’re unlocking your doors with Siri or biometrics… You can use the TK6 then to tie together the rest of your EDC!
