This Apple x Procreate controller knob for the iPad Pro upgrades your artistic workflow!

Simon Pavy’s Apple x Procreate controller concept falls perfectly in line with a few hardware-controllers we’ve seen in the past from Adobe and Wacom, and even from Microsoft for its Surface line. Designed to speed up an artist’s workflow, the knob works in tandem with the iPad Pro and the Apple Pencil, providing a precision-rotating controller along with a touchscreen interface for pro-users.

The Apple x Procreate controller measures around 2-inches in diameter. With a rotating body, and a liquid retina touchscreen surface on the top, the controller really lets you precisely control aspects of your workflow. The rotating knob lets you very intuitively increase or decrease brush sizes, cycle through layers, adjust colors, or even play around with other settings, while the touch surface on the top works as a brilliant dedicated color palette, and an interface for cycling through layers, experimenting with brushes, or quickly going through your list of brushes while you work on your art piece. The puck-shaped controller comes with its own battery, and a USB-C port to charge it (you could just hook it to the iPad Pro). It even boasts of a non-slip surface on the base, allowing you to place it on even slanted tables for extra comfort. Sadly though, the Apple x Procreate controller is a fan-made conceptual product, although I don’t see why the designer couldn’t build a prototype and crowdfund it… I know I’d definitely buy one!

These Smart Knobs Can Turn Your Stove off from Anywhere

So you left the house and get on the road for a killer road trip, then 20 minutes into your drive, you wonder if you left the stove on. Normally this would involve heading back home only to find out that you didn’t leave it on in the first place. Well, not anymore. Just keep driving away from your home, and load up the Inirv React app on your phone.

These “smart knobs” are powered dials that sit on your gas stove, letting you turn them off remotely with your smartphone. The knobs can either completely replace your existing ones or sit beneath them like shown in the photo above. A nearby sensor can also sense heat, gas or that you’ve left the house.

Each knob is mechanically powered and can physically turn itself to the off position, so these are perfect for any existing gas stove. Their batteries are good for six months of life before you’ll need to recharge them; same with the sensor that’s mounted near your stove. It has a motion detector inside which will sense if you’re actually around. It will also detect gas, smoke and has a heat sensor that can shut the range off if you’ve left the house with the stove on. Worrying about your stove will be a thing of the past with this device on guard.

The company is crowdfunding the device on Kickstarter and if you want, you can get a set of four knobs and a sensor for $239(USD). When the campaign ends, it will be $299(USD). It seems like a solid investment in safety.

Keyless Entry at Home

The E-Lock is a different approach to the traditional door handles we have in our homes today yet greatly resembles one. The design is meant to give easy access to your home in situations where your hands might be occupied. No more fumbling with keys or dropping your groceries to get in! When approaching the door, simply wave your e-key to the sensor to unlock and just give it a push to gain access. It’s easy access without sacrificing security or style!

Double Door Knob Use

TIBOU is the first collection of luxury hardware developed just for kid!. The primary function of handles and knobs is to open a door or drawer, but kids often double them as a hanger to place their jacket or a bag. The object loses its main function and it becomes difficult even impossible to open the door. To account for this duality, all the elements of the TIBOU collection present a small hook on their front face, giving the child a perfect place to hang their belongings without hampering the opening of the door or drawer.

Griffin PowerMate Bluetooth for OS X: Twist & Scrub

According to Griffin, its PowerMate knob and button gained a “dedicated user base.” I don’t know whether that’s one thousand or one million users, but apparently that base is dedicated enough that Griffin was compelled to release an update to the PowerMate Bluetooth, which now connects to OS X 10.8+ computers via NFC. Just kidding. It uses Bluetooth. I was testing you. You passed.

Out of the box, you can use the PowerMate Bluetooth to adjust the volume or mute your Mac. It also has preset controls for iMovie and Garageband. But it also comes with a companion software where you can add commands for various programs and manage multiple units. Griffin also gave a few instances where the device was hacked. People used it as a MIDI controller, as a gaming display and an audio visualizer. Mike Flaminio checked out the PowerMate Bluetooth at the 2014 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES):

The PowerMate Bluetooth will be available this summer for $60 (USD). Honestly I think the Palette will get you more bang for your buck, but if you really want a wireless setup then the PowerMate Bluetooth may be what you’re looking for.

Set it and forget it!

Orb is a universal replacement stove knob that aims to make kitchens smarter. To tackle the problem of users forgetting about their stove being on, the design uses a series of “whistles” to periodically remind the user to check on the items being cooked. In the event that the user has become distracted and forgotten, the device will automatically rotate to the off position at the end of the cycle. Attachable to any stove, old or new, it transforms a basic appliance into a smart one!
