This 2-in-1 lounger lets you choose whether to relax or work (or both)

After two years of working wherever I wanted in my house, whether it’s a desk, the couch, or my bed, it’s been another adjustment to go back to the office and work in my cubicle. The fact that I’m back in a regular desk most days of the week can be a source of stress and I would like nothing more than to have a more pleasant area to work in while at the same time still being productive and all. It would be great if there was a space or a chair where I could choose to be more relaxed or to focus more on work, whichever is needed at the moment.

A concept for a leisure and work furniture might just be the thing I’ve been looking for. The LUNA Hybrid-Lounger is able to combine various functionalities for a chair and side table together so that you will be able to transform your space into whatever you need it to be. It can be a reading, relaxation, and even napping space and then when you need to actually work on something, you can transform it into a workspace whether you’re sitting down or standing up. You can also use the panel to be a divider and give yourself some sense of privacy when in a co-working environment.

The LUNA is made up of a lounger that looks like a barca lounger but with a softer-looking upholstery. The panel beside it can serve as a side table to put your coffee or snacks in or to write on your notebook or type on your tablet or laptop. You can also adjust the height of the table so you can also use it as a standing works space if you think you’ll be more productive that way. It is a motorized and rotatable panel that can adjust to whatever you need it to be. There’s also space for storage there so you can keep your notebook or books close to you.

The fabric for the panel is made from 100% PET bottles materials that were shredded in Europe so there’s also an eco-friendly aspect to this concept. I would actually like to have something like this in my house or office, depending on which place I’ll be staying in more often now (most likely the latter). But I will probably almost never stand up from there if you just put a snackbar or a mini-ref somewhere I can reach it easily so that doesn’t bode well for my fitness.

This zen lounger is the furniture you need for WFH days and weekend Netflix binge!

This conceptual lounger is all you need for every mood – zen weekdays for WFH and books with wine on the weekends. After a long day of Skype/Zoom calls and speaking to people across meetings, a relaxing place where you can hear the water trickle is exactly what you need to unwind!

Dhyan is a Sanskrit word which means focus, care, or meditation and rightly fits this lounger that has been designed to bring all of that to you. Inspired by the simplicity of the tree of buddha and intricate Japanese zen gardens, the lounger blends traditional eastern philosophies with minimal modern design. It embodies peace and stillness one feels when they connect with nature. Dhyan has three different modes to suit your needs — a standard mode, a water-pond mode, and garden mode.

Choose your zen is the new choose your avatar. The standard mode has a platform that doubles as a shelf along with storage compartments to help you get through the day. The water-pond mode is activated with an inboard pump that creates a waterfall behind the backrest to bring the most calming ambient sounds. The garden mode brings a little bit of the outdoors to the comfort of your home if you don’t have a backyard or are still in quarantine. The color green is known to reduce stress and coupled with the relaxed posture and water sounds, Dhyan is sure to become your absolute favorite lounger.

This transformative furniture lets you lounge on your desk during WFH

I am a huge foodie, and I have noticed this in both cuisine and design that the French love taking what you know, flipping it on its head, and giving you a crazier yet better version while you just sit there wondering “How do they do this every time?!”. The latest product to fall in this category is the ‘Chaise Renversée’ – a desk that can also transform into a long chair by the famous French architect Pierre-Louis Gerlier. The literal translation of Chaise Renversée is ‘chair overturned’, I love how simply the French put everything.

Since we are all cooped up in our homes, we are constantly finding ways to optimize space. Especially if you live in a city, you are likely to have everyday objects that are modular so that you have a functional space. Our current situation and the need to be flexible within a small space is exactly what inspired Gerlier to design the Chaise Renversée. It is the perfect blend of work from home and Netflix from home into one piece of modern furniture, it provides a stable table area to work and can then transform into the ‘Chaise Lounge’ when you want to relax.

“Chaise renversée is a desk for those who do not wish to have a desk,” says the architect, and I think that makes sense! If you only use your desk to reply to emails or pay the bills then it is inefficient to have a rigid, barely-used piece of furniture occupying space in your home. What we need is for our flexible lifestyle is what Gerlier gives us, a lounge chair that also works for work – if our 2020 mood could be translated into furniture, this is it. Sleeping on your desk has a whole new meaning.

This Jumbo Snorlax Lounger Will Lull You to Sleep… and Steal Your Wallet

Do you have trouble getting to sleep? No luck with Melatonin or Ambien? Well, here’s something that will surely get you some shut-eye – a gigantic Snorlax sleep lounger.

Created lovingly by Knot Again by Amina, this handmade Snorlax bed (aka the “Sleeping Monster”) is sure to lull to sleep anyone who dares to lay on its inviting and rotund belly. For shipping purposes, the monster comes unstuffed, but Amina will provide instructions for stuffing your Snorlax locally. That’s sure to be a process that’s more involved than your Thanksgiving turkey.

This amazing creation is the perfect living room addition for any Pokémon fan with deep pockets. I’ve got the first part covered, but sadly, $3500 is a bit above my pay grade when it comes to my collection of geeky wonders.

One chair, two chair, double-sided blue chair…

The unique appeal of the Turning Chair by Insu Kim is that it’s a comfortable lounger as well as a bar-stool. This creative take on seating relies on a form that can be flipped 90° to completely change its function! When in orientation A, the Turning Chair is a comfortable low-lying lounger with a reclining backrest, perfect for your living room… but thanks to its angular rear legs, the chair can be flipped backwards to turn it into a high-seated bar-stool that fits rather suitably in your kitchen. Plus, get this… the chair’s form is stackable too! What a space-saving shape-shifting seater!

The Turning Chair is a winner of the K-Design Award for the year 2019.

A lounge chair you can ‘lean on’

Remember the Ovini Balance Stool from last year? The Sway Chair is the Ovini’s bigger brother with a backrest! Designed to be a lounging chair that has the flexibility of perhaps the beanbag, KI’s Sway Chair comes with a hemispherical base that rests on a freely rotating and swiveling base that has 4 legs. The contact points between the seating area and the base have ball bearings concealed within them that allow you to lean forwards, backwards, or even sideways in the chair, choosing a position that’s comfortable for you. With a simple physical action, you can change the chair from a work-chair to a lounger to lean back and relax in. There’s a certain bit of resistance/friction too, which means the chair retains the position you set it in, rather than swinging willy-nilly. Oh, and this one, unlike the Ovini, also comes with a rather nifty backrest as well as an adjustable foot-stool!
