This compact food pod keeps your meal at its perfect temperature anywhere you go

Whether we plan on eating at the office, having a meal outdoors, or sharing food at a friend’s house, we’ve all come across the joys and sorrows of moving food from one place to another. Extra care has to be taken that the food doesn’t spoil while also retaining its ideal temperature, be it hot or cold. Spilling food, especially sauces, is a huge disaster, and it happens too often to be called an accident. Containers that can prevent all these mishaps from happening do exist, but, more often than not, you pay for that with their bulky and heavy bodies. What should be an enjoyable meal can turn into a hellish preparation, which is why The Pod almost feels like a miracle, carefully carrying your favorite food inside, ready to be enjoyed at its best, anytime.

It might still have a stigma of being a kid’s school accessory, but lunch boxes have become an adulting thing, too, especially when it means being able to eat healthy and save money. They also come in different designs, shapes, and functions, with some simply holding food while others can also keep them hot or cold for a little while. Some also have different compartments for different kinds of food, but mixing foods that have different temperatures often results in soggy, unappetizing meals when it’s finally time to take them.

The Pod solves all these problems in a form that’s no larger than an iPad. Despite its compact size, it can hold around 1,500ml of food without spilling them. Better yet, you can put different foods in different containers, and they each keep to themselves without mixing smells, temperatures, and tastes. Say goodbye to soggy noodles, cold soup, melted ice, and spilled sauces, all thanks to this innovative thermal lunch box with a minimalist style that you can match to your personal tastes.

The secret to the Pod can be found in its two main parts. The Pod itself is a flask that uses 316 medical-grade stainless steel and a Japanese-inspired five-layer composition that keeps hot food hot and cold food cold for hours. This leak-proof container has a 13cm diameter opening that is equivalent to a typical soup bowl, making it convenient to scoop out your meal or enjoy it directly from the flask.

An equally important part of the Pod is the FDA-approved and BPA/BPS-free Silicone Container that literally adds another layer to your meal-to-go. In addition to being a place to put your food in, the container itself can be safely placed inside microwaves and freezers to prepare your food before you jet. Of course, it’s also dishwasher safe, so cleaning the silicone bowl shouldn’t be yet another cause of stress.

Just as bringing your own healthy meal is a lifestyle choice, the Omi Pod can also be a personal expression. In addition to your choice of pastel color, you can also swap out the silicone strap with an eye-catching signature rainbow design to match your style. Starting at just $68, this compact and stylish food pod will keep your favorite food at its best, removing all the prep worry and letting you enjoy that scrumptious meal just the way you like it, even when you’re not at home.

This vacuum pump merges the functionality of ziplock bags with a hard casing to reduce your leftover food wastage!

Storing leftovers in airtight zip-lock bags is a trick hard to follow. While mastering the dance of rolling your food tight and simultaneously sliding its bag closed might teach you patience, the prospect of leftovers always seems to circle back for seconds, and they’re just aren’t enough bags in the kitchen. Zhuhai Kelitong Electronic Co. Ltd., the company that brought us electric wine openers, has recently been recognized by iF Design for its new set of vacuum-sealed containers and automatic vacuum pump that render zip-lock bags a thing of the past.

Designed to provide food containers with high-vacuum storage to curb bacterial growth, Zhuhai’s vacuum storage system boasts that it can keep your leftovers sealed for three to five times longer than the standard food storage container. The hard plastic containers come with pre-delineated food zones that help users separate their food items and with a vacuum-sealed lid that works as the base for the accompanying pump. Zhuhai designed the vacuum pump to be automatic so that once it’s placed on top of a container’s lid and activated, the pump immediately begins pulling out the excess air inside of the container until it reaches a high-vacuum degree of -0.03 Mpa.

Each food storage container is constructed using FDA-approved Tritan materials, which means that the plastic used is BPA-free and can safely be reheated in microwave ovens. The designers built the food containers to be 70% lighter than common glassware containers so that once the containers have been vacuum-sealed, they can just as easily go into the lunch box and be transported anywhere. Once the container is ready for use again, the lid comes easily apart from the container so that each component can be properly cleaned and prepared for its next use.

Designer: Zhuhai Kelitong Electronic Co. Ltd.

Coming in three parts, each vacuum pump and lid attach to different containers.

Once the vacuum pump is activated, then excess air that could lead to bacterial growth is sucked up from the container.

An automatic vacuum pump works by draining in the container’s excess air until a vacuum degree of -0.03 Mpa is reached.

Each food storage container can be easily disassembled and put back together for cleaning and storing.

Designed to be 70% lighter than average glass food storage containers, these containers from Zhuhai are perfect to bring for lunch.

This bento-inspired three-tier lunch box has a carrying case that doubles as a tablecloth so you can always enjoy a proper meal!

Busy workdays sometimes mean compromise for our meals. Instead of sitting down to fully enjoy a meal and our full lunch hour, we’re three-quarters of the way through a sandwich the size of our face five minutes after closing time. As relaxing and recalibrating as sitting down to eat a proper meal can be, work always seems to come first. SOC is a lunch box created by designers at Midea who hope to bring back the ceremony of enjoying a meal, even during the busier workdays.

SOC Lunch Box is a three-tier lunch container packaged inside a magnetic carrying case that doubles as a tablecloth. The three levels of SOC provide space for the user’s different food items to be separated and neatly arranged, with enough room inside for utensils and a metal cover that keeps the food steamed throughout the day. With three enclosed compartments, each meal taken from SOC will taste as fresh as when it was made. Once each meal is properly placed inside SOC, the closed lunch box gets folded into its case which securely locks with a magnetic buckle.

The lunch box itself gets wrapped up in a magnetic carrying case that unfolds to create a tablecloth or placemat for mealtime. The tablecloth is easy to clean and comprises three layers, made from PU anti-fouling, temperature insulation support, and silica gel material. Included to encourage users to make a ceremony of each meal, the placement is meant to keep the meals from spilling on desks.

SOC Lunch Box comes in three layers, with enough room for a full meal, steam cover, and utensils.

SOC Lunch Box gets wrapped up in a magnetic carrying case that doubles as a tablecloth to have for mealtime.

When unfolded, SOC’s carrying case works as a durable placemat for meals. When folded, the tablecloth magnetizes and locks into place to function as a carrying case.

Coming in an array of different colors, SOC Lunch Box is a meal companion fit for everyone.

The tablecloth of SOC morphs into a carrying case through the box’s magnetic buckle mechanism that works to lock the carrying case in place.

BioShock Lunchbox Holds Your Peanut Butter & Plasmids

Fans of BioShock who need a way to get their lunch to and from work or school will want to check out this awesome Big Daddy lunchbox. It’s one of those metal ones like we loved back in the ’80s and has the underwater drilling Big Daddy on the front.

If you ever played BioShock, you probably remember the first time you tangled with a Big Daddy, you probably also remember dying – over and over.

The lunchbox measures 9″ x 4″ x 8″, and the artwork comes directly from the cover of the game box. You can grab one at ThinkGeek for $14.99(USD).

Poké Ball Lunch Box: Gotta Eat it All!

Lunch is an important meal when you are at school or work. At school it gives you a chance to talk to your friends and spend some time not learning anything. At work it gives you time to get away before you have to deal with your boss. Pokémon fans will want to carry their meals in this Poké Ball lunch box.

The familiar Pokémon catching orb has a lid with an integrated handle and a push-button opening lid. At 6.5″ wide and 5″ tall, it doesn’t look all that big, but it should hold your PB&J sammie and Little Debbie cakes just fine.

You can get one at ThinkGeek for $19.99(USD) and catch your lunch wherever you roam.

The Dino Case Is a T-Rex Protector of Your Lunch

Lunchboxes were a big deal when I was in grade school way back in the day. We all wanted those metal ones with cool pictures on them, not the plastic ones with the single stickers on front. I was a big fan of the Star Wars, GI Joe, and The Dukes of Hazzard lunch boxes personally, but I would have definitely carried Suck UK’s Dino Case.

It’s technically not a lunch box, it’s a case to carry whatever you want to cram in its maw. I’d have carried lunch in it. Though if it messed up my Little Debbie Nutty Bars, there’d be a dino vs. human fight, and I’d win.

It appears that the hinged case is held closed by the strap around its jaws so it’s not that secure, and there isn’t a lot of room inside its mouth. However, you will look like a badass carrying around a dinosaur’s head in your hands.

It’s not going to be available for another month or two, but you can pre-order one for $35 on Amazon now.

Back to the Future Lunch Box: Back to the Cafeteria

Growing up, the thing I looked hardest for each year when it was time to go back to school wasn’t shoes or shirts, it was a new lunch box. The competition for coolest box at lunch was intense, and if yours sucked, kids made fun of you. Along the way, I rocked an ET box and had a Dukes of Hazzard lunch box too.

I always preferred the metal sort with the embossed designs to stickers on plastic boxes. This Back to the Future lunch box reminds me of the early ’80s lunch room, even though the films had yet to be released.

One side of this metal lunch box features the DeLorean complete with flaming skid marks as it reaches 88 MPH, while the sides have the iconic OUTATIME license plate. The back is a bit of a reach, with Space Zombies from Pluto artwork based on a prop used in the film that I don’t even remember. Regardless, it’s still a really cool way to carry your lunch to work or school. You can get yours now over at Entertainment Earth for $14.99(USD).

HeatsBox Is a Lunch Box That Warms up Your Food

Packing a lunch for work is healthier than eating at a fast food restaurant, which is why many people do it, but the problem is that unless you use a microwave, your food is going to be cold when it should be hot. Not with HeatsBox from Swiss start-up Faitron.

heatsbox
This portable box is a lunchbox that is equipped with a built-in oven that lets you eat your meals hot, just like if they were prepared fresh. Reheating food in the office microwave means standing in line, and it won’t heat it evenly. HeatsBox makes it more enjoyable to bring your meal to work, gradually warming your food in about 15 minutes while you sit at your desk.

heatsbox_oven_lunchbox_2

HeatsBox uses an 85 watt oven-type heater to warm food, and can be charged up via USB. It also comes with the same self-cleaning system found in many newer oven models. What’s not clear at this point is how it will keep your food from spoiling in the hours leading up to lunchtime.

There’s no word yet on when HeatsBox will ship or how much it will cost, but you can sign up for more information on their website. Assuming it works as promised, this is the kind of thing that will make your day.
