The 1965 Fender Deluxe Reverb amp was easily one of the most used amps in the history of amplified music, seeing hundreds of legendary artists using the amplifier for blues and rock and roll music. The Deluxe Reverb was introduced in 1964 and became an industry standard for electric guitar tones, even being used by The Beatles. It had a moderate power of 22 watts and a 12-inch Jensen speaker, which produced a full, snappy, and crystalline sound that was revered in studios and stages worldwide2. The amp had two channels (normal and vibrato) and four inputs (two normal and two vibrato), as well as tube-driven Fender reverb and tremolo2. The amp was discontinued in 1982, but it remains a classic even today, and perhaps one of the most popular amplifiers ever made! The amp’s lasting legacy made it a perfect choice for the folks at Aquarius, for their music-inclined lunchbox series.

The beauty of the Fender amp lunchbox is that it’s quite literally timeless. You could be in your forties, and this lunchbox would still be the talk of the cafeteria. The tin box features embossed dials on the front along with immaculate detailing of the Fender relief logo, the grill, and even the screws holding the front frame to the cabinet. The back, on the other hand, features a graphic of a 1/4″ jack and the Fender label… and that handle almost exactly copies the one seen on top of Fender’s amps!

In a way, this unique crossover seems just ideal, given that the amp’s naturally boxy shape lends itself perfectly to the lunchbox’s design too. The lunchbox measures 8.5 inches wide, 6 inches tall, and 4.5 inches deep (21.6 cm x 15.2 cm x 11.5 cm) when kept face-up. That’s perfect for a well-balanced meal, complementing the amp’s well-balanced sound rather well!

With offices opening up, and our life gaining a semblance of normalcy again, our daily routines are back to being as hectic as ever! With everything that life manages to throw at us in the duration of a day, preparing and packing our lunchbox for work, is often one of the last things we pay attention to every morning – although it should be the one we focus the most on! Packing a healthy and balanced meal for work is extremely integral, and with ready-to-eat, instant, and processed meals slowly taking over the world, cooking a wholesome and fresh lunch for ourselves is becoming a rarity. Hence, we’ve curated a collection of kitchen appliances to help simplify + speed up your morning prepping + packing routine! These innovative kitchen appliances will assist you in not only cooking a delicious and fresh meal, but also to carry it to work in a hassle-free and efficient manner. From a sleek self-heating bento box to electric chopsticks that can enhance the taste of low-sodium food – these nifty designs are all you need to put together the ultimate lunchbox!

1. SOC Lunch Box

As relaxing and recalibrating as sitting down to eat a proper meal can be, work always seems to come first. SOC is a lunch box created by designers at Midea who hope to bring back the ceremony of enjoying a meal, even during the busier workdays.

Why is it noteworthy?

SOC Lunch Box is a three-tier lunch container packaged inside a magnetic carrying case that doubles as a tablecloth. The three levels of SOC provide space for the user’s different food items to be separated and neatly arranged, with enough room inside for utensils and a metal cover that keeps the food steamed throughout the day. With three enclosed compartments, each meal taken from SOC will taste as fresh as when it was made. Once each meal is properly placed inside SOC, the closed lunch box gets folded into its case which securely locks with a magnetic buckle.

What we like

  • A magnetic carrying case unfolds to create a tablecloth or placemat for mealtime
  • SOC Lunch Box comes in three layers, with enough room for a full meal, steam cover, and utensils

What we dislike

  • No complaints!

2. Electric Chopsticks

Electric Chopsticks

Electric Chopsticks Information

Chopstick innovations and redesigns have been presented, but nothing like this project introduced together by Kirin Holdings and the Miyashita Laboratory (Meiji University Dr. Homei Miyashita Laboratory of the Department of Frontier Media Science, School of Interdisciplinary Mathematical Sciences). The chopstick device comes with an electrical stimulation waveform that together work to adjust the taste of low-sodium food.

Why is it noteworthy?

The chopsticks can make low-sodium food taste salty. So you can enjoy the food more but sans the high sodium content. This idea can benefit those who need to go on a low-sodium diet. Right now, chopsticks can be used, but other utensils can also take advantage of the system. Salty taste enhancement is possible with electrical stimulation on a utensil. With the goal of improving the electric taste sensation, more people can enjoy what they eat even with reduced salt.

What we like

  • The device uses a weak electrical current in transmitting sodium ions from the food to the mouth
  • Creates a sense of saltiness

What we dislike

  • It’s still in the prototype stage!

3. The 4T7 Smart Chopping Board

The key to making a product smart is to figure out how technology can enhance its core abilities. To that very end, a smart refrigerator that connects to your social media may be a terrible idea… but something like the 4T7 Smart Chopping Board actually makes a world of sense. With functions and features that make meal prep much easier and more streamlined, the 4T7 Smart Chopping Board helps with every stage of meal prep, and then some more. The built-in calorie counter makes it extremely efficient to pack healthy lunches, and encourages you to eat better even when you’re busy at work!

Why is it noteworthy?

4T7 breaks meal prep into its different components, adding good design and tech wherever necessary. The board comes with 4 distinct parts, a main bamboo chopping board, a secondary silver-ion anti-bacterial board for veggies to prevent cross-contamination, a third heat-conducting defrosting tray that helps rapidly thaw frozen foods, and lastly, the 4T7’s base, which has its own built-in weighing scale. The only part of the 4T7 experience to exist outside the actual board is its smartphone app, which counts calories as you weigh your ingredients. Once your prep-work is done, the digital display on the 4T7 can also function as a kitchen timer, while the board itself becomes a magnetic knife-holder.

What we like

  • All of 4T7’s components are designed to be wonderfully functional as independent items
  • The board works equally well for fruits/veggies as well as for meats

What we dislike

  • No complaints!

4. MEALZTIME

If Steve Jobs were less of a tech enthusiast and more of a culinary specialist, maybe we’d be staring at a state-of-the-art culinary heating device instead of the M2 MacBook Air. Although that reality didn’t quite pan out, we still have the MEALZTIME, an incredibly slim, self-heating bento box that’s leak-proof, easy to clean, and works on a single-button interface.

Why is it noteworthy?

MEALZTIME hopes to make the office microwave obsolete. Given the sheer number of people who use the microwave on a daily basis (and that occasional dimwit who heats up their tuna casserole in it, ruining it for everyone), MEALZTIME was designed as a personalized alternative that heats your food up to the right temperature for you, without you having to wait in line. All you do is press the power button on your bento box and MEALZTIME gets to work, automatically shutting down after your food’s been heated. It does so without needing to be plugged in too, so you could potentially grab a hot meal on the subway, in your car, in the outdoors, or even at work during a power cut.

What we like

  • Great replacement for the microwave
  • MEALZTIME lets you heat up to 4 meals on a single charge, so you really have to juice it up just about once or twice a week

What we dislike

  • No complaints!

5. The ECLIPSE

Meet the ECLIPSE, a portable tea brewing station that isn’t as limiting or as archaic as the teabag. It combines a travel thermos and a french-press-style brewing system in one easy-to-use, easy-to-carry design, and lets you brew two cups (or one large mug) of the tea of your choice.

Why is it noteworthy?

In all fairness, I’m not surprised that a device like the ECLIPSE hasn’t become ubiquitous all this while. Tea is the second-most consumed beverage in the world, and as far as tea cultures go, its brewing methods are still deeply rooted in tradition. What ECLIPSE does is simply modernize it, by providing the same steps you’d expect in regular tea brewing. The multi-part travel press comes with a measuring cup, a brewing teapot, a plunger (that acts as a strainer), and a drinking vessel.

What we like

  • Portable and easy-to-carry design
  • The inner layer of the ECLIPSE is lined with a ceramic coating to honor the traditional practice of brewing in ceramic teapots

What we dislike

  • No complaints!

6. The Fresh Fridge

Ditching trendy diets for mindful eating, the Fresh Fridge designed by Tati Feruccio is paired with an array of technical features that encourage a health-conscious lifestyle. The Fresh Fridge is a sort of smart refrigerator that analyzes each user’s distinct eating and health habits to portion out nutritious meals throughout the day. The main technical detail that stands out is the Fresh Fridge’s digital interface that’s located just above the small refrigerator. It’s a fun + efficient way to make healthy meals for work!

Why is it noteworthy?

Broadcasting mindful facts and cooking recipes from its screen, the digital interface is like your own personal cooking show for various meals throughout the day. Just below the interface, allocated space for meal preparation feels intuitive and makes following along with recipes while chopping up produce items easier than ever before.

What we like

  • Encourages mindful eating over trendy short-term diets
  • An integrated digital interface

What we dislike

  • We don’t know how well would the fridge’s analyzed portions work for everyone

7. Pinchy

With the classy appeal of a switchblade (although much safer) Pinchy is a cutlery set where the protective case turns into the cutlery’s ergonomic grip. Just pinch and flip and the case opens, with a metal spoon, fork, or knife popping out.

Why is it noteworthy?

Shaped to be compact and easy to grip, the case is hollow and holds the metallic half of the spoon/fork/knife inside. Pinch it open and flip the metal end out, and the case goes from being an outer cover to an ergonomic grip that’s easy to hold and maneuver. When you’re done, just flip the cutlery back in and they go right back in their protective little shell.

What we like

  • Intuitive + well designed
  • Made from a combination of 304 stainless steel and antibacterial plastic

What we dislike

  • No complaints!

8. The All-in-One Coffee Grinder

The All-in-One Coffee Grinder is a handheld, portable coffee grinder with integrated brew methods for coffee on the go.

Why is it noteworthy?

Coffee makers tend to be multifunctional by design, merging brew and drip mechanisms into one machine, but integrated grinders are always missing. Noticing a gap in the market, Locus Hsu conceptualized their All-in-One Coffee Grinder, a portable, electric coffee grinder that also incorporates brew methods.

What we like

  • Hsu’s All-in-One Coffee Grinder is about the same size as a conventional, reusable water bottle
  • The bottommost compartment is the All-in-One Coffee Grinder’s capacity cup that works like a reusable travel mug

What we dislike

  • No complaints!

9. FoldEat

FoldEat’s solution is elegant, organized, and potentially game-changing. The kit comprises a roll-top bag with modular vessels and cutlery kits inside. Zip open the bag and it unfolds into a table mat with your food at its center and the cutlery right beside it.

Why is it noteworthy?

The way the FoldEat transforms from a food kit to a dining set is perhaps its biggest advantage over conventional lunchboxes. All homogenously packed in a single bag that’s easy to carry around, the FoldEat is perfect for office lunches, travel lunches on a plane or train, or even an outdoor picnic. Its all-inclusive set includes main containers, side containers, and cutlery, all elegantly laid out on a mat, almost like you’d expect at a restaurant. The outer cover (which doubles up as a mat) comes with a zip and clasp to secure your boxes in place. Its roll-top design allows you to add more boxes to the kit, letting you pack meals for an entire day, or even for an extra person.

What we like

  • Embedded within the mat is also a flexible magnetic layer that keeps all your boxes and cutlery in place
  • FoldEat designed its containers to be modular, allowing them to pair up and stack on top of each other, while also keeping them microwave and dishwasher-safe

What we dislike

  • No complaints!

10. Oblic Dropper

Oblic Dropper is an immersion coffee brewer that’s designed with an angled silhouette and silicone covering for accurate pouring and coffee on the go.

Why is it noteworthy?

If we can agree on one thing, it’s that there can never be enough coffee designs. From portable grinders to instant brewers, and from robotic coffee makers to smart espresso machines, designers are endlessly inspired by the thrill of a morning brew. Reinterpreting the classic coffee dripper through a portable, compact lens, industrial designer JenFu Yang conceptualized the Oblic Dropper, a handheld pour-over device ideal for bringing coffee with you on the go.

What we like

  • Equipped with an integrated stopper, transferring Oblic Dropper from one cup to the next can be a clean, seamless transition without any spillage

What we dislike

  • No complaints!

Solar-powered lunchbox keeps your food hot or even cool, depending on what’s inside

The biggest benefit I can think of for a self-heating lunchbox is the sheer ability to avoid using your office microwave. Think about it. Tony from HR decided to bring tuna salad for lunch and now the entire microwave and lunchroom smell like funk. It’s a good thing you don’t need to microwave your lunch, because Sunnyside kept it hot for you.

Designer: SunnySide

Click Here to Buy Now: $69 $125 (45% off). Hurry, only 3/125 left!

Meet Sunnyside, a nifty bento box with a self-heating AND cooling feature that brings your lunch to the right temperature just before your meal. A heating coil around the metal container helps evenly conduct thermal energy around your food, keeping hot stuff hot, or if you’ve got something like an egg/potato salad that’s out in the sun, a pair of fans located on the bottom of the lunchbox pull out warm air, ensuring your food doesn’t spoil in the heat. However, the most impressive bit? Sunnyside relies almost entirely on a solar panel built right into its lid, working off renewable energy.

Sunnyside is a spacious, leakproof bento box with a modular divider system that lets you organize your lunch. A solar panel built into the lid helps charge the Sunnyside’s internal 10,000mAh battery that powers the lunchbox’s heating and cooling features, and a tiny LCD screen and buttons on the side help you control your Sunnyside, choosing how hot or cool you want the contents of your box to be. The 10,000 mAh battery is more than enough to power your lunchbox, and even doubles up as a wireless power bank to charge your phone, AirPods, or even your laptop as you wait for lunchtime to finally arrive!

Built-in Power Bank to Charge your Devices – With the built-in 10,000 mAh battery, you can not only heat or chill your meals but also charge your devices right from the lunch box.

Modular Dividers – Consists of removable dividers/separators so you can easily portion your meals, making it easier to follow a healthy diet.

Built-in Thermometer – The thermometer keeps a tab on the temperature and shuts it down automatically if it goes beyond a point. It can heat food in 7 minutes and has an auto cut off mode trigger so it doesn’t overheat your food.

Each Sunnyside comes with a safe, cordless design that’s also dishwasher friendly. An internal thermometer allows you to constantly gauge your food’s temperature, which gets displayed on a small screen on the side of the Sunnyside; or better still, Sunnyside’s own smartphone app allows you to set and control your lunchbox’s temperature anytime! Now if only the app also let you see if someone’s trying to steal your lunch!

Silicone finger grips in this snack box ensures your kids can eat without a mess!

Monchi is a compressible snack box with a silicone lid that comes with integrated finger grips for kids to eat with their hands without making a mess.

There are only two types of people in the world: the ones who lick their fingers after a meal, and the ones who look for the nearest sink. While I fall into the latter category, the urge to eat with my hands is real. Finger foods like cookies and fries have always been a crowd favorite, but they’re messy too.

Monchi, a hygienic silicone-based snack box, developed by A Nus Design Studio features built-in finger grips so you can eat with your hands without the mess.

Tailored for children aged three and up, Monchi is as parent-friendly as it is kid-friendly. Featuring a flexible, silicone lid, the integrated finger grips stretch to fit hands and fingers of all sizes.

Just beneath the silicone lid, Monchi has a leak-proof and airtight food container that holds snack-sized items for kids to enjoy anywhere. From picnics to school lunches, Monchi packs some fun into eating so kids will never skip their veggies.

Once snack time is over, Monchi’s silicone build allows for easy cleanup. Compressible by design, the food container can shrink in size to fit into small storage spaces, even your front pocket.

The finger-grip lid allows users to slip their fingers into each slot, allowing free range of motion to pick up food items inside the container. Constructed from food-grade silicone and polypropylene plastic, Monchi is BPA-free and made from materials that are safe for kids of all ages to be around.

Designer: A Nus Design Studio

Even below the lid, Monchi’s design is fun for kids to play with.

Following an involved ideation process, Monchi reached its final form.

McDonald’s Korea just launched a limited-edition Big Mac-inspired stackable lunchbox!

If you think about it, a burger is a stackable product too… so it wasn’t going to be long before someone drew the parallel and made a burger-shaped stackable tiffin box!

It seems like that brainwave came to McDonald’s Korea, which just unveiled the limited-edition lunchbox inspired by their iconic burger. The lunchbox comes with vertically stackable containers, celebrating the traditional Korean ‘dosirak’, a portioned lunchbox quite similar to the Japanese bento box. Its circular, vertically stackable shape allows it to perfectly mirror the stackable design of a burger, with orange containers with artwork on the side resembling patties leaves, and sauces, while the lid on top comes with a sesame seed pattern to complete the visual experience!

The lunchbox sports two containers that lock together using clasps, with a sesame-bun cover on the top and two fold-out handles to carry the box around. The two containers have separate lids of their own too, helping retain heat while ensuring that liquids or gravies don’t leak out during transit.

For a limited time, Korean patrons of the global fast-food giant can get their hands on this quirky lunchbox for ₩7,500 KRW (approximately $7 USD) upon purchase of a Big Mac or a Big Mac Bacon. I’m lovin’ it!

Designer: McDonald’s Korea

Why carry a lunchbox when you could carry a portable dining kit that’s the same size?

The FoldEat’s one of those ambitious projects that really show us how backward we are when it comes to our way of life. Ditching the notion that you need to carry tupperware, cutlery, and napkins in a cloth bag and have them rattle around while you’re traveling to and from work (and then consequently worry about washing your cutlery after you’re done eating so you can carry it back with you), FoldEat’s solution is elegant, organized, and potentially game-changing. The kit comprises a roll-top bag with modular vessels and cutlery kits inside. Zip open the bag and it unfolds into a table-mat with your food at its center and the cutlery right beside it.

The way the FoldEat transforms from food-kit to a dining-set is perhaps its biggest advantage over conventional lunchboxes. All homogenously packed in a single bag that’s easy to carry around, the FoldEat is perfect for office lunches, travel lunches on a plane or train, or even an outdoor picnic. Its all-inclusive set includes main containers, side containers, cutlery, all elegantly laid out on a mat, almost like you’d expect at a restaurant. The outer cover (which doubles up as a mat) comes with a zip and clasp to secure your boxes in place. Its roll-top design allows you to add more boxes to the kit, letting you pack meals for an entire day, or even for an extra person. Embedded within the mat is also a flexible magnetic layer that keeps all your boxes and cutlery in place, allowing them to stay arranged and organized every time you open the kit out. Moreover, the outer cover which serves as a table-mat, is machine-washable and comes with the ability to attach a side-strap or a carabiner-clip to let you carry your FoldEat with you anywhere you go.

On the inside, the FoldEat is more than a simple set of containers. Designed to enable a proper dining experience, FoldEat designed its containers to be modular, allowing them to pair up and stack on top of each other, while also keeping them microwave and dishwasher-safe. There’s a separate container that’s designed just for holding liquids, with a screw-cap and thermal insulation (perfect for soups and curries), while a gel-pack allows you to keep the rest of your food piping hot too. The outer cover comes with its own thermo layer too for extra insulation. FoldEat’s inner layout adjusts itself to your intake as well as your cuisine. A snap-on cutlery set lets you dig into all sorts of food without needing to rely on flimsy disposable cutlery. The stainless steel fork, spoon, and knife allow you to eat food as you would at home or at a restaurant. The main containers come with separator panels, enabling you to segregate your food, while a set of three mini-containers let you carry smaller portions of garnishings, dips, desserts, or nuts along with you for a complete nutritional experience.

Ultimately, FoldEat upgrades the portable lunch experience by making it convenient and classy. The kit is easy to carry around anywhere you go, and opens up into an organized dining experience, rather than a cluttered picnic basket full of bits and bobs. By taking the fine-dining experience and making it portable, FoldEat does a few key things. It reduces your dependency on clunky lunchboxes that may leak inside your laptop bag, and on disposable cutlery. It encourages you to eat better, by carrying all your meals (along with its tiny accompaniments) wherever you go, and most obviously, it keeps your dining experience organized no matter where you are, whether it’s at work, on a plane, at the gym, at your hotel, or even outdoors at a picnicking site. Besides, if it means eating less takeout food and more home-cooked meals, isn’t that just a massive win?

The sleek aluminum Molabox is the lunchbox’s Macbook Air moment

Let’s for a moment ignore that horribly dystopian future depicted in the video above where humans have lobster-hands and are basically aqua-men and really focus on what the Molabox is, and why it’s so neat that people could literally make love to it.

Molabox is like if the tiffin box had its own Macbook Air moment. It comes with a collapsible silicone construction and a svelte metallic outer case that, when collapsed, makes it look like you’re carrying an SSD around with you. However, when you want to store food in the Molabox, it expands to its true height, giving you enough storage for a good meal, along with cutlery, and even a partition too, in case you want to carry two separate items… but most importantly, the Molabox doesn’t contain any disposable parts, or virgin plastics. The case is made from recycled aluminum, while the Molabox’s lid and reusable cutlery are entirely crafted from recycled plastic.

The idea is that for half of your work-day (post lunch, basically), the Molabox is going to be empty… so why must it occupy the same amount of space when there’s nothing inside it? The Molabox uses a nifty origami-inspired folding pattern, coupled with a food-grade BPA-free silicone to achieve its springy-ness. When needed, the Molabox is a full-sized lunchbox… and when empty, slide it into its aluminum sleeve and it’s roughly an inch in thickness, allowing you to carry it around in any bag with absolute ease. The Molabox comes with a leak-proof lid with its own reusable cutlery snapped into it. The tiffin box even has its own modular partition that you can place anywhere in the box, while the lid comes with its own air-valve for easy reheating. The Molabox is infinitely reusable (which means it won’t end up in the trash like your takeaway containers), and is dishwasher safe. In fact, it’s microwave-friendly too… just remove the Aluminum sleeve and put the Molabox in the microwave to quickly reheat the food you have inside. The boxes come in three fresh anodized colors, and the box’s reusable nature means you’re effectively offsetting the thousands of takeaway containers and disposable spoons and forks you’d use in your lifetime. Plus, each Molabox is made from recycled plastics and aluminum, so even owning a Molabox helps reduce environmental waste.

MolaBox: The Eco-Friendly Collapsible Lunchbox/Takeout Box

Designed to eliminate single-use takeout plastics, the MolaBox is a collapsible lunchbox made from recycled materials.

America alone created 15 million tons of plastic containers and packaging waste in 2015, and more than 100 million pieces of plastic utensils are also created every day. Keeping that in mind, about 10,000 MolaBox backers can help reduce 1 million plastic lunch boxes, plastic bags and plastic utensils every year.

Meet Steasy, the smart lunchbox that heats your food up with steam

Anyone who’s worked with chocolate knows that you don’t melt chocolate by throwing it into a pan over a flame. You’ll burn the chocolate by causing it to cook. What you want to do is heat the chocolate without cooking it, which is why you use a double boiler. Heating chocolate, or any food for that matter, with steam is tonnes more effective. Heat distributes uniformly, rather than being concentrated to one area, and more importantly, you can warm your food up without altering its taste… and that’s precisely what the Steasy does.

The Steasy is an electric lunchbox that uses steam to heat your food up. Designed to be incredibly sleek and streamlined, Steasy occupies the same footprint as your regular tiffinbox would, but it does something your food-holding piece of Tupperware cannot. Steasy has primarily three parts. A base for holding water, a metal container for holding (and heating up) your food that nests right into the base, and a lid that seals the box shut.

With an integrated battery that can heat your food up for 15 minutes, Steasy gives you the satisfaction of steaming hot lunch that tastes fresh and great. The steam heats the content of your lunchbox evenly (without cooking it), allowing it to taste as good as it did when you prepared it. The box comes with the ability to fast-charge, and even has its own mobile-app that you can use to activate the Steasy’s heating function 15 minutes before your lunch break, so you can skip the queue for the office microwave and literally open your tiffin-box to some incredibly tasty, hot, home-cooked food!

Designer: Steasy
