This keyboard and mouse put a bold and chunky spin on computer accessories

There’s no shortage of keyboards and mice available in the market today, each of them trying to cover an equally wide range of needs and tastes. There are keyboards designed for gamers, mice made for artists, and all sorts of designs claiming to deliver the perfect ergonomic experience. Mechanical keyboards, in particular, are quite popular among heavy computer users, but the majority of the options available lean more toward gamer aesthetics with their hard edges and psychedelic RGB lighting. Fortunately, there are exceptions, like this collection of computer peripherals that make use of big, chunky keys, soft colors, and plenty of gold accents that earmark them for a different and more appraising clientele.

Designer: AIZO

It’s actually not that easy to design a correct and usable keyboard. One has to consider performance first, with comfort usually following it. Aesthetics often takes a back seat, as if it was mutually exclusive from a good technological product. The visual and tactile experience of a product, however, can make or break its success, and devices are no different. The IZO keyboard, mouse, and numeric keypad try to prove that by delivering a design that is not only functional but also luxurious.

Unlike your typical keyboards, the IZO wireless keyboard and numpad use rather chunky and big keycaps that look more like smooth pebbles than the usual trapezoidal shape. Even the choice of white color for the keys gives it a softer aura, which complements the colors of the frame which is treated with a glistening pearl finish. The most eye-catching parts, however, are perhaps the gold accents on some of the keys and on the mouse, elevating the objects from being tools to fashionable accessories.

The devices do have a few tricks up their sleeves beyond just looking sophisticated. The keyboard, for example, has a knob that actually houses two different dials to control different things. The numpad has its own display and functions as a calculator on its own. These aren’t mind-blowing additions, but they help assure buyers that the devices are more than just pretty faces.

The AZIO IZO wireless keyboard, numpad, and wireless mouse present not only a unique design but also a challenge to manufacturers. At this point in time, we have already perfected the essentials of performance, ergonomics, and features for these peripherals, so it’s about time that we start focusing on materials, aesthetics, and the human experience that these products provide. Why should you settle for plain dark accessories when you can have the same performance wrapped in elegant and luxurious designs that better match your style.

This luxurious chaise lounge is actually a motorized wheelchair in disguise

Despite technologies in development to help people with walking disabilities or difficulties regain their footing, the majority of these people will most likely live out their lives in wheelchairs. That’s especially true for elderly people who are unlikely to benefit from those mechanical marvels anyway. But while wheelchairs do bring about some mobility for these people, their clinical and industrial designs don’t exactly inspire confidence, let alone provide comfort for their day-to-day activities. It’s as if these mobility devices were made to liberate their bodies while limiting their spirits, serving as a reminder of their unfavorable situation. This wheelchair concept, however, goes in a very different direction, designed to feel good and look great as if it were part of a high-class furniture set, giving users a confidence boost to regain a bit of their independence every day.

For some elderly people, wheelchairs represent an odd dichotomy. These personal mobility devices allow them to go places on their own that would otherwise be unreachable for them, but at the same time, they also serve as a very visible and visual reminder of their disability. These people, however, are in more need of social support and emotional confidence through independence of movement that will let them connect with other people on their own. The Resilience motorized wheelchair concept is designed to meet that need not through technological features alone but also through the smart use of colors and materials.

In a nutshell, Resilience transforms the idea of a typically rugged motorized wheelchair into an elegant chaise lounge, one that you might not even recognize as a wheelchair. Colors such as Resilient gray and Classy chrome give the mobile piece of furniture an elegant flair, while materials such as plastic and leather provide soft comfort and pleasant tactile experiences. At the same time, the construction is also made to be durable and stable, employing aluminum and metal parts that inspire confidence in the use of the wheelchair.

Beyond just materials, the Resilience’s form also generates mellowing thoughts through the use of smooth surfaces and gentle curves. The base has wavy details that could call to mind the ridges of clam shells or the ripples of water. This elegant design is used as a metaphor for the elderly person’s influence extending and expanding as their mobility and independence increase.

Resilience is actually part of a larger mobility system, one that includes a self-driving “Brio” vehicle designed specifically to accommodate this luxurious motorized wheelchair. Brio uses the same design language as Resilience, making it look and feel like they’re two parts of the same whole, one that’s designed to help expand the elderly’s reach, whether indoors or outdoors.

What is the secret behind a luxurious bathroom décor?

A luxurious bathroom offers the perfect retreat to unwind, de-stress and relax after a long day. With smart planning, well-chosen materials, and accessories, the bathroom décor can instill a rich, luxurious 5-star look. However, one must ensure that the bathroom décor reflects one’s personal taste and lifestyle. Use these ideas and tips to create a bespoke, indulgent bathroom that is an abode of ultimate relaxation.

Meticulous Planning

Design an efficient bathroom layout by segregating the bathroom into a distinct wet and dry zone. This will ensure that the bathroom remains dry throughout the day. Install a frameless glass shower cubicle that offers a seamless look and imparts a sense of openness. Invest in premium quality sanitaryware, fixtures, and hardware that can impart a luxe look. A twin mirror-sink combo is an ideal solution for shared and spacious bathrooms. One can enjoy a long soak in the tub with a freestanding clawfoot bathtub that will effortlessly transform into the bathroom’s focal point. Also, go for a ceiling-mounted rainfall shower head that spells luxury or body sprays (vertical shower head) that enable one to pamper oneself with a lovely water massage. Improve the functionality of the bathroom with the installation of premium quality bathroom accessories.

Going for sensor-based fixtures and geysers or water heaters is highly recommended, which are energy efficient and can help reduce running electricity costs. Bring in natural light with frosted glass windows that impart a bright and airy look to the bathroom. Provide soothing music with a dedicated sound system that is safe from humidity.

Incorporate Layered Lighting

Lighting forms a key design element that dictates the feel and ambiance of the space. A fusion of soft and diffused lighting can infuse a relaxing vibe into the bathroom décor. Task lighting in the mirror can be achieved by installing wall sconces at eye level. This arrangement illuminates the face without casting shadows and is best suited for applying make-up, shaving, and tooth care. Avoid adding light above the mirror as it may cast shadows. Instead, consider ceiling-mounted light fixtures with dimmers so that one has the flexibility to control the brightness of the lights as per the occupant’s mood. Install a chandelier or a cluster of pendant lights in the center of the bathroom ceiling to amplify the sense of grandeur. Introduce recessed directional lights that accentuate and provide focused illumination for highlighting an architectural feature or a piece of art.

Use High-end Materials

One can achieve a high-end luxurious look using exotic stone for the walls, flooring, and countertop. Italian marble is one of the most preferred luxurious materials that oozes opulence because of its dramatic veining patterns. A neutral-toned or white color marble can impart a luxurious and spacious look. In addition, one can opt for marble-look tiles, as they are a budget-friendly way to achieve a similar look without breaking the bank. Some of the best options include onyx, quartz, and granite.

A Statement Mirror-Sink Unit

The mirror-sink unit forms one of the most critical design features of the bathroom that can instantly elevate the look to a whole new level. One of the easiest ways to infuse instant glamor is by integrating backlighting behind a raised mirror frame. Unlike wall-mounted lights on either side of the mirror, backlit mirrors offer detailed reflections and even light distribution around the mirror. It evokes a sense of subtle elegance and creates the illusion of a larger space. Incorporate organic and curved shapes as they can infuse softness and convert this private space into a plush retreat.

Introduce Plants

Nature instantly calms the space, so beautify this private retreat space with potted plants and pebbles as they add color, personality, and a sense of character to the bathroom interiors. They offer respite and a plush space for relaxing. Green plants are lovely to look at, have excellent air-purifying properties, and create an oxygen-rich space. Some of the best plants for the bathroom are aloe vera, Boston fern, snake plant, areca palm, and money plant, to name a few.

Designer: Irina Kazantseva

Embrace Color and Pattern

Energize the bathroom’s look with a splash of color and create a bright statement wall with colorful marble and patterned tiles. This will elevate the face of a neutral-toned bathroom and infuse character into the space. Patterned tiles form a dramatic focal point and add visual texture to the bathroom décor. Aim for classic patterns that create an attention-stealing detail with an enriching appeal.

Designer: Julia Buza

Create a Clutter Free Space

A bathroom will look messy if there is clutter and no dedicated space for hanging towels and robes. Install a towel ring on one side of the sink and a hook for hanging the robe. Add personality to the décor with clever built-in storage space. Keep the clutter tucked in drawers and cabinets so they are out of sight and create the illusion of a larger area. Keep away all the hairdryer’s toothbrushes, curling irons, and electric razors. A well-designed cabinet will merge form and function and add to the overall aesthetics of the bathroom. If space permits, incorporate a niche to keep the toiletries.

Accessorize

Decorate the bathroom with strategically placed artwork or a mural to give the interiors a more curated look. Incorporate metal accents that can add a lot of sparkle and sophistication to the bathroom décor. It is a great way to add a personal touch to the bathroom interiors.

Create a Spa-like Ambience

Take the less is more route to create a spa-like bathroom with a luxurious vibe. A relaxing spa-like atmosphere can be achieved with a neutral color palette that creates a feeling of openness. Natural materials can infuse warmth and a rich organic feel. Stock up on sweet-smelling fragrances, scented candles, potpourri, or a diffuser with essential oils like lavender, jasmine, and rosemary that have therapeutic properties. Decorate the countertop with a tray or wicker basket, neatly folded hand towels, and handmade organic soaps. A simple vase with fresh flowers can also add life, fragrance, and vibrancy to the décor.

Tip: Take the décor to a different level by making provision for glass, wine, and nibbles without coming out of the tub.

Introduce Tactile Elements

A luxurious bathroom takes an extra step to combine luxury and functionality. Create a tranquil sanctuary and immerse yourself in a sensory experience with the subtle use of textures and tactile surfaces like wood, stone, and pebbles. Soft textiles like fluffy towels, doormats, and rugs can improve the bathroom’s appearance. Consider premium quality organic Egyptian cotton, as they are fluffy. Maximize comfort with a plush sofa or chair that will help you to enjoy secluded privacy and ensure optimal relaxation before or after having a bath. Make a statement and ensure privacy with luxurious window treatments. Beautify the space with rugs and mats that provide a warm underfoot, as the flooring can turn cold during winter. The soft fabric should be resistant to humidity and moisture.

Designer: Mastella

These insightful tips will help create a calm, cozy, indulgent space. A luxurious bathroom will effortlessly transform into a perfect getaway that allows some private me time and isolated relaxation.

Ludicrous Luxurious!

rollsroyce_vision100_1

Text in this article is irrelevant because I myself can’t get enough of these images. Rolls Royce isn’t known for presenting outlandishly futuristic concept cars, but boy, do they know to take us by surprise! The Vision 100 (it’s got 100& of my undivided vision!) is Rolls Royce’s debut venture into concept automobiles and presents itself as a vehicle so royally opulent, I’m kneeling before it already. The car’s design has gotten mixed reviews, but I’ll say that I’m really digging the new aesthetic. With its unusually vintage front, the Vision 100 pulls off the past/future fusion with sheer finesse. Obviously, the car is self-driven and can seat two people. The automobile boasts of four separate drivetrains near each wheel, allowing for a supremely silent ride as well as a relatively empty space around the engine. This gives way to the storage trunk that actually finds itself right behind the front wheels. The wheels look absolutely gorgeous, btw!

While there’s a lot to say and feel on the aesthetic front, probably the most symbolic and marvelous feature of the Vision 100 is its AI. Carrying the iconic character of RR’s Spirit of Ecstasy (the beautiful lady mascot adorning the hood) to the AI, the Vision 100 is powered by Eleanor, your in-car concierge, because driver/chauffeur sounds too plebeian. Obviously! This is a Rolls Royce we’re talking about!

Fujifilm X-Pro1 mirrorless camera review

Fujifilm X-Pro 1 mirrorless camera review

Hear any mention of retro-styled cameras with exorbitant price tags and it's hard not to get suspicious. That kind of talk brings to mind Leica's incessant re-branding of Panasonic Lumix models, or those unicorn limited editions out of Japan that just leave us baffled. But it's okay, you can relax with the Fujifilm X-Pro1. At $1,700 for the body only it's crazily expensive, sure, but not when you compare to an $8,000 Leica M9-P. Besides, it's a legitimate heir to a strong line of Fuji shooters that includes the much-loved X100 and the more accessible X10. That's a strong pedigree, and no matter how deeply you peer into its mirrorless aperture, the X-Pro1 should offer up enough technology to stop you being cynical.

Like what, you ask? Well, a genuinely surprising bespoke 16-megapixel APS-C sensor, for starters, plus a hybrid viewfinder designed to keep everyone happy all of the time, and a Fuji X lens mount that already has a Leica M9 adapter available (plus others, like Nikon, if you scan eBay). It all adds up to something special, but before you go tweeting this article to whimsical rich uncles, there are also some complicating factors you ought to be aware of. Even in a utopian paradise where everyone could afford this sip of photographic luxury, it's far from certain whether everyone would choose it over other interchangeable lens cameras. Read on past the break and we'll explain why.
