Maserati Biturbo-Shamal restomod reincarnates the 90s Italian coupe into a desirable hunk

Maserati Biturbo-Shamal was one of Maserati’s finest creations when it was released in the 90s. Co-designed by Marcello Gandini, the performance grand tourer fitted with a V8 engine only sold a limited edition of 369 units. Now, Automobili Modena has brought back the sharp Italian classic as a restomod version.

Dubbed MA-01 Biturbo-Shamal Restomod, the car retains the bodywork’s angular, sharp flowing lines, right from the front grille to the LED light clusters on the rear. Eye-pleasing muscle is added in the form of wheel arches, high tail, fixed wing, smoothness of the flanks, and beefy exhausts (two on each side) bulging from the valence.

Designer: Modena Automobili

Lucky ones who own the original Shamal, and ones who are motorheads will instantly recognize the semblance of grille design, center pillar, and Trident on the rear pillars and door handles. The facelift comes in the shape of a more aggressive frontal stance, bigger air intakes, side skirtings and sharper wheel arches. Of them all, the LED light pack and the large spoiler give it a sportier look. The lightweight body features steel and carbon fiber make. Integrated into the frame is an exposed carbon central pillar that doubles as a rollbar for protection.

Although not many details of the interior have been shared, it will likely have an oval digital instrument cluster just like the original. Other details about the innards are left out for now to everyone’s imagination. Under the hood is where most of the work has been invested in. Gone is the original Maserati Biturbo Shamal’s 326-hp 3.2-liter V8 replaced by the modern Maserati Ghibli S’ twin-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6. The engine is custom-tuned to generate more power in coordination with a Ghibli S’ eight-speed ZF gearbox that’s capable of gear shifting in a mere 150 milliseconds. More internal components push the twin-turbo V6’s capability to generate 500hp. In the end, the Shamal hits a top speed of 177 mph and goes from 0-60mph in 4.7 seconds.

The ambitious Modena Automobili Project is only going to take shape as 33 limited edition units. Priced at approximately 638,000 the Maserati Biturbo-Shamal restomod will go up for sale in Spring of 2025, so better mark your calendars.

Maserati and LEXGO Showcase Powerful E-scooters with built-in Apple Find My technology at IFA 2024

Maserati has long been synonymous with high-performance cars, but now it’s taking its love for speed and style to the streets in a more accessible way—through two wheels. Teaming up with electric mobility specialists LEXGO, Maserati has expanded its name into the world of e-scooters with two sleek models: the Armonia and the Lampo, which we spotted on the floor of IFA at Berlin this year. If that pairing alone doesn’t grab your attention, the scooters come packed with premium features, including Apple’s Find My technology, merging high-end design with smart functionality.

These e-scooters are designed to cater to city dwellers who want more than just a basic ride to work. Think of it as your everyday commute with a side of prestige—after all, the iconic trident logo isn’t just for show. With Maserati branding comes a certain level of expectation, and both the Armonia and Lampo deliver by blending Italian design aesthetics with urban mobility needs.

Designers: Maserati & LEXGO

Armonia: Style and Simplicity

The Armonia scooter lives up to its name, translating to “harmony” in Italian. Designed for the everyday commuter with a taste for elegance, the Armonia doesn’t just look good—it’s built to last. The frame is made from magnesium alloy, a material chosen for its strength, durability, and lightweight. This makes the Armonia not only stylish but also highly portable. The foldable design further enhances its convenience, perfect for urbanites who need to stow it away in tight spaces like apartments, offices, or public transport.

Powered by a 400W motor, the Armonia reaches a top speed of 25 km/h, keeping it compliant with European regulations while offering sufficient power for inner-city commutes. The 36V battery gives it a solid range of about 60 kilometers, making it ideal for quick daily trips. With a sharp, easy-to-read display, riders can easily monitor speed and battery levels while navigating the city streets.

Lampo: Lightning Fast

If you’re looking for something with more bite, the Lampo (which means “flash” in Italian) takes the stage. Unlike the Armonia, the Lampo packs two 1000W motors (one in each wheel), giving it a top speed of up to 60 km/h. This is no leisurely ride—it’s built for those who want both speed and style in their urban transport. Whether you’re accelerating through traffic or hitting steeper inclines, the Lampo delivers a punchy performance.

The Lampo’s dual suspension ensures that this power doesn’t come at the cost of comfort. Whether you’re navigating bumpy city roads or uneven terrain, the suspension smooths out the ride, keeping you comfortable even at higher speeds. Additionally, the Lampo is equipped with turn signals and a dual hydraulic braking system. And like the Armonia, the Lampo is also foldable, so you can easily tuck it away when not in use.

With a 52V battery, the Lampo extends your range to about 100km in single drive, or 70km if you use both motors in tandem. It’s a blend of function and excitement for riders who want the Maserati experience on two wheels.

Apple’s Find My: The Tech Edge

In a nod to modern convenience, both the Armonia and Lampo come equipped with Apple’s Find My technology. Lose your scooter in a crowded parking lot? No problem. Just pull out your iPhone, open the Find My app, and you’ll know exactly where your ride is. Sure, the e-scooters can be locked with a virtual password, but in case an unwitting thief decides to take off with your ride after spotting the Maserati logo on them, Find My helps you track precisely where your two-wheeler is.

Smart Helmet: Safety Never Looked So Good

Maserati and LEXGO didn’t stop at just scooters. They’ve also introduced the Smartee-1 smart helmet to round out the package. The helmet comes with built-in LED lights that sync with your scooter, whether it’s a taillight that automatically shines on braking, or turn lights that glow when you indicate before turning, or even the headlight that adds to your visibility while driving. The Smartee-1 is IPx5 water-resistant, and comes with a sleek design that’s won a Red Dot Design Award for the year 2024.

Maserati Tridente electric superboat redefines luxurious water adventures

At the Folgore Day event in Miami, Maserati revealed the world’s first convertible all-electric car, and we were impressed by another one of their unveils. This is the Tridente all-electric luxury motorboat that dots the Italian automaker’s presence on the waters as well.

Just picture a scenario wherein you arrive on a coast in your GranCabrio Folgore, and the Tridente powerboat has you covered for a day at sea. Completely electric, the powerboat is developed in collaboration with VitaPower, a seasoned EV marine company. The EV boat has traces of the Vita Lion powerboat in its DNA, but the Maserati influence is seen in the modern design and upgrades.

Designer: Maserati

The carbon fiber-hulled speedboat measures 34 feet long and allows fat-pocketed millionaires to explore the waters in luxury and comfort. The vessel draped in a beautiful rose gold finish has seating for eight, a swimming platform, and a sundeck bed. The interiors are done in cream to contrast the luxe exteriors and Maserati’s craft can be seen in the streamlined design. The hull is made out of carbon fiber to keep the weight down to a minimum and that helps the dual electric motors powered by the four batteries churn out a maximum of 600 horsepower.

According to Maserati, the powerboat will reach a top speed of 40 knots with a cruising speed of 25 knots for a range of 43 miles on a single charge. The batteries can be topped up in an hour with a DC fast charge connection which is great if you don’t like long delays before another escapade to the waters.

With a price tag of $2,660,000, the Tridente is the perfect companion for your supercar. That said, if you can own this baby, you’ll have to wait for 10 months before laying hands on it.

Maserati Unveils GranCabrio Folgore all-electric four-door convertible touting 270 miles range

Virtually every carmaker on the planet is making the sensible transition to clean energy and Maserati is no different. Now the luxury vehicle manufacturer has revealed its drop-top electric vehicle which now becomes the third all-electric car in the line-up. The GranCabrio Folgore convertible is one of the world’s first electric four-seater of its kind based on the gas-powered GranTurismo Folgore.

The gorgeous beast comes with a tri-motor (300kW magnet motors) electric powertrain that churns out 818 horsepower and approximately 1,000 lb-ft of torque. It’s worth mentioning, that the EV is based on the 800V technology adapted from Formula E. That makes it capable of reaching a top speed of 180 mph and 0-62 mph in just 2.8 seconds.

Designer: Maserati

The drop-top performance EV has a WLTP-rated range of 260-277 miles on a single full charge. The Italian marque is also promising a maximum charge speed of 270 kW. That means a charge of just 10 minutes will get you 120 miles of range. The convertible top mode operates at up to a speed of 31 mph and retracts in mere 14 seconds. Noticeably, the contraption takes very little space to preserve boot space for hauling luggage.

If you are wondering how the GranCabrio manages those classic proportions despite being and EV, well, that is attributed to the T-shaped lithium-ion battery pack positioned between and behind the passengers. This eliminates the traditional seating position of EVs that’s more of a tall-in-the-saddle category. On the inside, the EV’s cabin is laden in premium inserts, a luxe ambiance, tech inclusions and the use of eco-friendly materials make it a sweet deal. Maserati has paid much attention to detail for the Econyl seats that come with laser-etched perforations for visual attractiveness.

The front seats come with 18-way adjustable freedom and neck warmers for chilly weather conditions. That steering wheel is wrapped in leather and complements the brushed aluminum paddle shifters. The 12.2-inch digital gauge cluster is paired with the 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, heads-up display, and a 16-speaker Sonus Faber sound system. Maserati is offering the EV in a staggered wheel-and-tire package that has 20-inch fronts and 21-inch rears. These can be chosen in six different wheel designs and four different finishes.

Someone looking for a performance electric convertible has got their wish granted as the Maserati GranCabrio is slated to hit the showrooms in early 2025. Of course, it’ll come at a steep price tag of approximately $200,000!

Maserati MC20 Dakar Edition is an adventurous Italian supercar challenging the Lambo Huracan Sterrato

Carmakers like Lamborghini and Porsche have made the bold move to test the viability of an all-terrain supercar with the Huracan Sterrato and 911 Dakar respectively. Interestingly, one imaginative designer has derived inspiration from such builds to come up with a concept Maserati MC20 Dakar Edition to conquer any terrain an off-roader would fancy. While one would argue that the Maserati Grecale and Levante SUVs already have a presence in the market for off-roading, this concept increases the stakes a level higher.

Destined to be a mid-engined supercar, the MC Dakar Edition rides on lifted suspension and gripper tires with additions like a pair of gripper hooks and a bespoke roof rack with front-facing lights. This fun project gives high weightage to fun and style over performance, so the conceptualizer doesn’t propose any upgrades to the mid-mounted twin-turbo V6 engine capable of generating 538 lb-ft of torque.

Designer: spdesignsest

Keeping in mind this build is a Dakar edition, so the off-road modifications will disturb the aerodynamics and add to the overall weight. This will directly impact the top speed and acceleration. But if this supercar is off-roading for most of its clocked miles, it won’t matter. Continuing with the off-roading character of the vehicle, there are satin-finish aluminum skid plates on the rear and bumper extensions for a beefier profile. No doubt this concept would look dapper compared to the modified MC20.

We are not counting on the probability of this concept making it to real life as the designer works for 7 Design House which is a tuning company that has already weaved their magic on the Maserati MC20 Coupe and Cielo for visual enhancements. If potential owners like the idea of a Maserati turned into a Dakar Edition version, we could have a real version too in the future.

Honda Electric Pickup + more edgy car designs that would leave every Grand Tour fan wanting more!

Through the years, some cars have reached iconic status, they’ve captured a place in everyone’s hearts and people reminisce about them to date, whether it’s the Back to the Future DeLorean, the beloved Porsche 911, or off-late, the Tesla Cybertruck. What do three British men, some iconic cars, and their legendary antics with these iconic cars have in common? Just one of the most popular automotive shows in the world, the Grand Tour! The thing about the Grand Tour is it surpasses the cars – they have become every auto enthusiast’s dream to tinker with the best cars, in the best places, with your friends (though I always root for Richard Hammond, and I do wish he would win more!) and even I would swap places with them instantly! Automotive Designers have given some of our favorite wheels creative and enduring makeovers, and we’ve collected a few for you that we totally approve of – the best part is figuring which of these designs would be picked by Jeremy Clarkson, James May, and Richard Hammond, and what their take on each would be. Any guesses?

The Ridgeline EV concept comes from the mind of California-based Rene Garcia, a concept designer at ILM who’s previously worked on The Mandalorian, Thor: Ragnarok, The Avengers, and the Transformers anthology. Garcia began designing the vehicle as a Dakar rally truck, but gradual iterations slowly turned it into a conceptual pickup truck for Honda. Designed to handle pretty much anything you can throw at it, the EV comes with its own winch-hook on the front, a frunk behind it, suicide-style rear doors that give you access to the car’s spacious interiors, and an expandable truck-bed on the back that even comes equipped with tools and emergency medical kits.

Al Yasid reimagines the Dodge Demon in white silver body and yellow hue for the front bumper – much like the 68 Porsche 908. The choice of yellow comes from the designer’s current bent towards this color from the palette that he likes the most. With tweaking to the front align with over fenders – who would not fall in love with this muscle car! If you notice closely, the Dodge cross grill (air dam) has been modernized, and the rear window aero piece has that attractive shooting brake-like look courtesy of the roof spoiler. Al Yasid points to his love of shooting brakes by saying, “That “roof spoiler” was actually done to give a slight illusion of a shooting brake while not being one hah!” In a fun twist, the yellow front resembles a duck’s bill for those who love a biological inspiration on their ride, but to me, the yellow is a pure throwback to Bumblebee, our favorite transformer ever!

The Pandemax Concept by Radek Štěpán is unconventional, to say the least. It has a distinct Star Wars-inspired aesthetic and those all-terrain tires and that high ground clearance really implies the car could easily work on the roughest of alien terrain. Designed to be a sort of explorer vehicle or manned rover, the Pandemax comes with two seats at the absolute front of the vehicle, with a panoramic windshield that lets the explorers get a full view the terrain and landscape ahead of them. Sure, a few questions come to mind too, especially regarding driver safety and the center-of-gravity, given that the drivers are sitting outside the car’s wheelbase. However, it’s a neat aesthetic exploration of an interplanetary vehicle if you ask us. I’m especially loving the Cybertruck vibe, and I’m sure the driver gets a hell of a view!

The direct competitor for the Apple Car is obviously going to be Tesla who’s got a strong foothold in the self-driving electric car market. According to some sources, the Apple Car will not have any driver’s seat or even driving controls which could be a bummer for motorheads who love the feel of controlling their machine. The Apple Car will look like anybody’s guess, but to give a close idea of what it may be like, Ali Cam’s Apple Car 2076 is a good reference point to take home some inspiration. Adopting Apple’s sharp design aesthetics, the car looks like a mouse shaped like a car at first glance, but then you realize it’s actually a minimal car concept. Loaded with advanced driving systems Ali envisions the blueprint far in the distant future – the year 2076 to be precise. The choice of year apparently is the 100the anniversary of Apple ever since it was founded by Steve Jobs, Steve Wozniak, and Ronald Wayne.

2020 saw the Italian automaker introduce the halo supercar MC20 and to spice things up designer Salvatoreandrea Piccirillo has come with an electric Gran Turismo supercar concept, he likes to call Maserati Neptune. The designer penned this concept render in collaboration with FCA Group as a part of his training course at IED Transportation Design. The concept borrows the driving position from the 250F Formula One racer and the negative space down the bottom middle is something that’s unique. Maserati Neptune is powered by the Formula E racecar platform with the battery positioned behind the front wheels. The Gran Turismo car has a splitter located at the front and a big diffuser on the rear, giving it a very speed demon-like character. Salvatoreandrea has designed the concept keeping the driving pleasure, sportiness, and comfort in mind – and that’s evident from what we see here.

The star of the Back to the Future series is going to shine again, without a doubt. To fuel our imagination and prep us all for the 2021 DeLorean DMC-12, designer Ángel Guerra has awe-inspired automotive design with his version of the DeLorean 2021. He summed up the motivation for this concept in his words – “This is a thank you to an icon and a movie that marked my childhood. This is, too, a new DeLorean for my son’s generation.” As his tribute to the iconic design, Ángel has mustered up this super dope DeLorean for the 40th anniversary of the brand that captured the imagination of an entire generation. The gull-winged car has a lot of character – making it look nothing shy of a supercar of the current generation. Nothing is overdone and every little edge or curve seems well-thought-out. Perhaps, it comes from his culmination of childhood dreams and the subconscious desire to own a DeLorean one day. In fact, his automotive design journey was triggered by the dream-like cars of the 80s and the designs of the following decades.

The Boat Tail, a coupé born from the patrons’ enduring love for the sea and taste for nautical design, was designed specifically to celebrate the hand-craftsmanship and relative history of yacht building. Three coupés inspired by nautical shipbuilding design have been built under the modern coachbuilding department at Rolls-Royce. Merging today’s advanced technology with the trusted bespoke coachwork of yesteryear, the Boat Tail’s hand-formed chassis cradles a 19-foot bonnet that covers the car’s 6.75-liter V-12 engine. The stone azure coat of the Boat Tail slopes to a wisped finish around the rear and borders the motorcar’s painted pantheon grille.

This all-electric car is actually Vecchia’s first automotive design project. It reimagines the popular Fiat 126 model from 1972 to fit in our current scenario where vehicles are headed towards a fuel-less future. Fiat 126 is a four-passenger rear-engined city car, introduced by the brand at the Turin Auto Show as a replacement for the Fiat 500; it was one of the most successful models with a total production of almost 4.7 million units. Vision 126 has a balanced aesthetic of vintage and modern. While the concept has square headlights to resemble the original model, making it slightly slimmer would slightly more modern look and take off some visual bulk from the front. Vision features radial vents in a way where they are integrated within the steel cap which is similar to the original wheel design.

The Bertone-designed Stratos Zero further escalated the car’s face value a notch higher. Decades have passed, but the edgy four-wheeler is still alive in the subconscious of automotive enthusiasts like Shane Baxley. Having his feet deep in the Hollywood community (his work features in movies like Captain Marvel and The Predator), Shane is creative in designing automotive concepts. His latest work is the Bertone Stratos Bax – a remake of the Bertone Stratos Zero in an upbeat modern makeover that’s utterly desirable. Renders of Baxley’s latest concept are jaw-dropping, as I already want to open the gull-winged doors of this beastly supercar and drive it on the open roads. He has contoured the ride’s ultra-sharp edges just at the right places in the right proportions to give it that hot appeal. The flowing design and the fat tires with the hollowed-out rim lend it a very street-legal racer DNA, ready for any challenger on the other side of the lane!

Looking like something either out of a videogame or a movie about videogames, this is MCLExtreme, an amped-up vision of what a fully-electric F1 will look like in 2050, courtesy McLaren. Sparing literally no detail, and quite literally painting an incredible picture in the process, McLaren’s vision for 2050 has quite a few interesting predictions. A completely electric drivetrain is a given, considering Formula One’s gradual drift towards it. The cars won’t just be electric, they’ll charge wirelessly too. The track will supply power to the cars at strategic intervals as they drive in circles. However, where it gets interesting is that McLaren says that in order to charge effectively, drivers will have to slow down to gather more energy. Drive slow and you charge more, drive fast and you save time. The concept of the pit-stop doesn’t exist in 2050 either. The car’s tires will be crafted from a much more durable and self-repairing material that makes them last longer and eventually repair over time, therefore never needing replacing.

This Maserati electric concept bike is a mashup of The Alien and stylized Tron DNA!

If Maserati builds a futuristic superbike, it would undoubtedly catch eyeballs, and this concept design truly deserves the Maserati badge. This superbike design by passionate motorhead Tomáš Klečka – a student from Brno, the Czech Republic – is certainly one that’s so ride-worthy. The electric two-wheeler looks inspired by the Xenomorph XX121 alien for its mean machine character. On the flip side, the superbike is just more than its flashy Trident logo.

The air vents on the sides are so reminiscent of the Maserati brand and the cars we’ve seen all these years. Big hubless wheels lend the Maserati electric concept bike the signature Tron bike character – and one can say – the ride is a striking image of the legendary superbike. A badass-styled set of wheels with the Xenomorph XX121 and Tron bike styling. Now, that’s quite rare, to be frank. The dark magenta color with the white stripe right in the middle is so Instagrammable. Add to that the big Maserati Trident logo and the creation is destined to be a dream ride for anyone who lays their eyes on it.

The low center of gravity of the Maserati electric concept and the forward-leaning position give it a street racing vibe. Perhaps it is a true reflection of the Maserati Motorcycles build between 1953 and 1960. Unfortunately, due to intense competition from other Italian motorbike makers, the division eventually shunned. So, as a tribute to the Maserati’s stint with the two-wheelers, who won’t want to own this beauty and park it on their porch? Tomáš has managed to inculcate the rich history of Maserati into the shape of a bike that’ll make you go week in the knees!

Designer: Tomáš Klečka

Maserati’s sleek yet luxurious automotive merges the brand’s past + future of autonomous supercars!

Maserati has always pushed the envelope of luxury and performance right from its inception in 1914, and till date. So what does the future hold for the Italian luxury supercar maker in an era where the automotive industry is making the rapid shift towards eco-friendly autonomous driving? Automotive design student Dohoon Jeong imagines the future which will have a semblance of classic infused in the design. A future where gorgeous design DNA and attractive sensibility will take precedence over the practicality of driving. The focus will be on the Trident structure, contrasting visual appeal, and the technical sharpness of the muscular body.

Dohoon calls it the Maserati Tridente, and the concept draws inspiration from the fluidic sculpture of Fountain of Neptune, chrome texture or the retro rides, and the exposed interior of the classics that the Italian super car maker has been known for in the yesteryears. In fact, the DNA is influenced more by the classic design of the Maserati cars which are etched in history as one of the greatest. The wide flowing design and the nostalgic roadster characteristics have been amalgamated together seamlessly for an artistic car of the future – having a very definitive interconnection between the interior and exterior as the body frame inspired by the Trident blade takes shape.

The sharp blade of the Trident encapsulated in a square logo and the shark grille highlights the Maserati DNA upfront. The copper texture further adds the luxury element to the two-seater autonomous supercar. The seating is embellished in all red hues for a royal feel sans any futuristic dashboard elements to keep things clean. Maserati Tridente is the deserving mascot of the brand’s future – the design speaks for itself, doesn’t it?

Designer: Dohoon Jeong

Maserati Neptune electric supercar is perfect ride of choice for the movie I, Robot’s sequel!

Maserati and the racing DNA of the luxury carmaker go all the way back to the 1950s in the Grand Prix era. The nostalgia of the 250F Formula One race car or the grit of the legendary drivers Juan Manuel Fangio and Stirling Moss is what shaped the Italian brand over all these years. And the trident logo based on the Fountain of Neptune designed by Mario Maserati in a way defined the brand’s superiority over other automotive players.

The fat wheels, compact aerodynamic shape, arching lines, and that peculiar hollow at the bottom half of the car is so futuristic. The latter I can’t help but relate to the I, Robot movie (attributing to that hollow structure of Neptune) and a thought lurking in my mind that a sequel could have the Maserati Neptune as the ride for the main lead. It has an air of coolness to it with the eye-candy charm and the renderings do full justice to what the designer had in mind. This amazing Maserati concept can be some food for thought for prototype automotive designs and perhaps a major inspiration for Maserati to ponder over.

Designer: Salvatoreandrea Piccirillo
