Compact Microlino EV gets the off-roading capable treatment courtesy of this concept which is tailored for adventurers who need a compact car for their camping to the trails.

A few months back we saw the cool Microlino Camper that’s one of the most compact and lightweight campers one can think of. Unlike other conventional campers or trailers, the Microlino is unique in its own rights with a small footprint and the capability to provide cozy shelter for two people to sleep on their short adventure trip. Now designers Dejan Hristov and Vladimir Matijasevic have envisioned another avatar for the all-electric Microlino originally created by Micro Mobility Systems.

Meet this robust version of the compact electric vehicle, ready to take on the treacherous trails for boundless adventure. The Microlino off-road modification brings with it the assurance of a robust chassis and reinforced exterior body frame to take on the harsh road conditions, as well as inclement weather. The solid metal framing on all sides provides protection from accidental bumps into rocks or trees, and also doubles as a platform for keeping essential tools or accessories. This brings freedom to pack in more stuff for the journey. Secondly, there is a rack on top to keep things like surfboards or extra luggage.

Tires, suspension, and underbody also get the off-roading capable treatment as the ride height understandably gets a boost. Since the vehicle is meant for dusty roads and difficult road conditions, there are extra fog lamps on the reinforced metal protection. The rear section can be either used to carry a couple of bicycles or an extra set of tires. The size of this modified Microlino off-roading vehicle is the core advantage here, and ideal for ones who always wanted a small hatchback to suffice their needs for adventure trips.

Normally when you think about Overlanding, camper trailer, or living on the go – it is about powerful all-wheel drives hooked onto a trailer with all the luxurious amenities possible for a comfortable life on the road. But nobody has given much thought to living an adventurous life with a small electric car as the accomplice. A small hatchback on an even smaller footprint doesn’t come with the luxury of a highly powerful drivetrain. And when the drivetrain is electric, it is even harder to imagine towing a trailer keeping the feasible aspect in mind. Thus pulling a heavy camper trailer behind a small electric car is out of the question. Or is it?

Product designer Ozan Kayikci has come up with a mindful design for a camper tent and portable kitchen for the Microlino 2.0, a Swiss-based micro electric car to explore this unattended segment. A small electric car that can take pride in having a respectable camper-like configuration, complete with a small portable kitchen. This gives adventure seekers another option to hit the road in the small car with the assurance of a cozy place to set camp under the stars. The inflatable camper fits inside the front section of the vehicle, and when you need to set camp, it can be done in a jiffy with one end securely attached to the car. The boot section holds the mini kitchen to cook a quick meal under the star-studded sky.

Ozan’s idea is feasible for a day’s overnight trip to the woods for two people in a four-wheeler that can take on the busy streets of the city as well. It’s like an extended two-person tent for a short adventure trip every other month to freshen things up.

The Microlino makes ‘adorable’ an automotive trait

As far as automobiles go, cute isn’t a term you see thrown around too often. The VW Beetle, for instance was one of the first cars to be perceived as cute (I’m more of a Mini Cooper man myself), but post its success, not many cars have harnessed that aesthetic… or harnessed it well (Google’s self-driving car looks cute, but feels more like a toy robot than a car).

Inspired by the BMW Isetta from the 50s (another adorable car), the Microlino does a rather wonderful job of looking cute, but at the same time also looking road-friendly. It harnesses the color palette you’d associate with Vespa and Lambretta scooters, and applies it to itself, looking friendly and approachable, but more importantly, it looks fit for the road. The electric car comes at just 2.4 meters long, and doesn’t have doors on the sides, but rather has one on the front. The dashboard and steering wheel literally open along with the door on the front, that allows both driver and passenger to board and deboard the vehicle. Its rather compact build makes it perfect for commuting effectively within the crowded city, although its aesthetic makes it ideal for a road trip on the French Riviera… and depending on the battery you choose, you can travel as much as 125 miles on a single charge.

The Microlino grabbed our attention primarily for its aesthetic, and held onto our attention with its impressive interiors and feature list. I’m personally not a speed-seeker myself, and consider the Vespa to be my soul-vehicle… but after seeing the Microlino, I may just change my mind! Besides, would you just look at those absolutely heart-warming color options!?
