3D Printed LEGO Minifig Head Organizers

Designed and 3D printed by Etsy shop MomLifeIn3D, these LEGO minifig head organizers each store up to 100 heads, so you can keep your LEGO domes easily identifiable and accessible. Gone are the days of sifting through buckets of brains trying to find the specific head you’re looking for.

Each head organizer has ten slots holding ten heads each, and they’re available as single organizers for $8, or as two packs for $20. That’s a savings of negative $4! Admittedly, I have to admire the unorthodox pricing scheme. Want more, pay extra – I like it!

Now if they just made organizers for ALL my LEGO pieces maybe they wouldn’t just be strewn across my living room floor like a minefield. Sure I could put them in plastic bins, but then there would be no risk of making multiple midnight snack runs in the dark. And, without that fear of pain, my diet would be ruined.

Melting Metal LEGO Minifigs Like Mini Terminators

What you’re about to watch is either a James Cameron movie with a VERY low budget, or a bunch of LEGO minifigs made out of gallium and melted for fun. It’s actually the latter, and it is very fun to watch. YouTuber DaveHax used LEGO minifig shaped ice molds to make some figures, then melted them like little T-1000s. It may just be the best thing ever.

Gallium is a solid metal at room temperature but has a melting point of around 86°F (30°C), and that’s what allows the magic to happen so easily. Minifigs look awesome in gallium, but they look even cooler when they melt. Too bad Dave couldn’t find a way to make it wear a tiny police uniform.

First, he tried to put them on a hot tray, but only the feet melted. Then he tried candles under the tray, but still no Terminator melting. They did melt, but not in the coolest way, but once he leaned it against the back of the tray, that’s when he got that sweet Terminator action. Check it out:

BTW I love Dave’s sciency voice.

40 Years of LEGO Minifigures

Can you believe that the LEGO minifigure is officially 40 years old? Humanoid LEGO figures were introduced in 1975, but they had no faces and no moveable limbs, then in 1978 they began to look like the articulated minifigures we have now. Ever since then these yellow figures have remained largely unchanged. They have made minor changes since then of course, with things like hair pieces, double faces, specialized designed, and then even tinier microfigures.

If you want to learn more about the history of these cool figures you can check out an infographic that LEGO posted that takes you through the entire 40 years of LEGO minifigure history. It might teach you a few things that you didn’t know, like how they made a sweet glow-in-the-dark ghost minifig back in 1990.

Since their original release four decades ago, hundreds of millions of kids have played with these figures, and many adults have collected them. To date, LEGO has produced over 4 billion minifigures in more than 8,000 different designs. That’s pretty crazy. I had no idea that there were that many different ones. I bet very few collectors have one from each of those designs, but there are probably a handful of them out there.

Minifigure Mantle: The Perfect Display Shelf for LEGO Minifigs

Do you have a big collection of LEGO minifigs? You could leave them hanging out on a shelf where they can easily be knocked over, or you could display them on one of these shelves designed specifically to keep their feet from sliding around.

The Minifigure Mantle provides a handsome wall-mountable shelf which is just deep enough to display minifigures, and has built-in LEGO studs to keep them neatly in line. Keyhole mounts on back make them easy to hang flush to your wall too, and hanging hardware is included.

If you have a couple hundred minifigs, it would look pretty awesome to cover the entire height of a wall with these shelves.

The display shelves range in price from $29.99 to $69.99 depending on materials and length, and are available in lengths from 23.25″ (19 minifigs) to 47.25″ (38 minifigs), and materials like pine, walnut, and baltic birch. They can also be ordered in custom lengths. Check out the full selection over on the Minifigure Mantle Etsy shop.

This LEGO Spaceman is Made of LEGO Spacemen

A LEGO fanatic by the name of aido k created this cool tribute to LEGO Space. It is a classic blue space figure created from a whole bunch of classic space figures. If you are going to build a large LEGO spaceman, you might as well make it from many small spaceman minifigs.

This is a render, but it’s still pretty damn cool. Besides, can you imagine how much it would cost to make this for real? There are no bricks here, only spacemen. Lots and lots of spacemen that combine to make one mega spaceman. I love how aido used different colored spacemen for the hands and face.

Make Your Own LEGO Brick Gummi Candies, Then Build Your Candy Kingdom

If you ever wondered how to make your own gummi candy that looks like LEGO, this is your lucky day. There is an Instructable created by SFHandyman showing you how to make gummi LEGO bricks and minifigs. They look delicious. They even sort of stick together for building.

It doesn’t look all that difficult and it’s a fun project. I say go for it. The great thing about a project like this is that even if you mess up, you still get to eat it all in the end. Here are some example gummi LEGO that were posted by The King of Random, Grant Thompson:

These gummi candies are super pretty. You almost don’t want to eat them. I said almost. There’s no way these would last long.

LEGO Daenerys Targaryen and Dragons: Mother of Minifigs

LEGO doesn’t have any official Game of Thrones sets, so it is up to the fans to create what the people want. Maybe one day LEGO will offer official sets, but given the adult subject matter, I wouldn’t hold my breath. That means we are on our own. In the meantime Etsy artist Demonhunterbricks has some custom made Game of Thrones figures so you can build your own Westeros locations and populate them with minifigs.

The first one that caught my eye was Daenerys Targaryen with her three baby dragons for £15.99 (~$27 USD), but the seller also has a Game of Thrones 4 pack that you can buy for £52.99 (~$90 USD)

And if that isn’t enough they also have custom Walking Dead minifigs – another franchise unlikely to ever see an official LEGO set.

LEGO Set Recreates the First Episode of Doctor Who

Can you believe that Doctor Who has been with us since 1963? The episode that started it all was “An Unearthly Child.” That was where it all began. The rest is history( and a bit of time travel). The show lives on today, as strong as it ever was. We should celebrate this first episode with LEGO.

LEGO Ideas contributor Concore has created an amazing tribute to the first episode. He proposes an official LEGO set featuring the TARDIS, the junkyard from the episode, and four minifigures: the Doctor, Susan, Ian, and Barbara.

I couldn’t agree more. It looks like an amazing little set. I would love to have this displayed on my desk. One minor gripe. I think it needs the Police Man.

LEGO Unveils Simpsons Minifigs

Simpsons fans will be happy with this news. LEGO just announced this line of LEGO Simpsons minifigs which will release on May 4th to coincide with a special Simpsons LEGO episode on FOX.

They are $4 each. All of your favorites are here with their accessories. They look pretty awesome, with some super detail. Sadly, you can’t get the set as a whole. The figures will come blind-bagged, meaning that you don’t know who you’re getting. I hope I get Itchy and Scratchy so I can make my own demented cartoons.

I’ll probably end up getting Millhouse or Ralph Wiggum and then since I’m too cheap that will be it. Oh well. Wait, there’s no Comic Book Guy?
