The kids have gone to college, have their own houses or apartments, get jobs, families of their own... and what was once "home" is now a place to visit when they get a chance.  Moms and dads adjust, take up hobbies, travel more, work more.... and, probably, cook less.  Cooking for one or two now, mom probably takes some short cuts and, more than likely, uses the microwave more.  Boring?  Nope.
