Samsung Bespoke smart refrigerators helps you truly own your kitchen

Most people would probably claim their rooms or the living room as their headquarters inside a house, but those who love cooking or preparing meals for the family will lay claim to the kitchen as their kingdom. There is no shortage of kitchen appliances and products that are designed to help make people’s lives easier, but few among these are also designed to appeal to their personal aesthetic tastes. It’s easier to get that kind of more personalized touch when it comes to kitchen tools and utensils, not so much for large appliances that are mass-produced to cater to the general public. That’s where bespoke products come in, and Samsung’s latest line of smart refrigerators try to fill this niche with appliances that not only look smart but are also pretty smart internally as well.

Designer: Samsung

While many refrigerators already look stylish and, at times, luxurious, not everyone will have the same tastes in aesthetics. Even more varied are the kitchen designs that people try to make, designs that make many refrigerators and oven stick out like a sore thumb. Samsung’s Bespoke Home lineup has been giving homeowners more options to leave their visual imprint in their homes, and this year’s new members expand that roster with refrigerators that offer not only more flexibility but also more functionality.

It might still seem like a strange feature, but Samsung’s screen-toting Family Hub definitely has its fans. The new Bespoke 4-Door Flex with Family Hub+ supersizes that display to a large 32-inch Full HD screen, empowering experiences like a large canvas for family photos, a spacious dashboard for managing your smart home, and even a convenient screen for watching videos while you’re busy cooking.

The new Bespoke Side-by-Side and Bespoke Top-Mounted Freezer Refrigerators embrace the dominant minimalist design trend to seamlessly blend with the rest of your kitchen interior. Buyers can pick their preferred color or front panel materials, including glass and stainless steel, to truly personalize the appearance of this smart appliance. The Side-by-Side fridge features Samsung’s new Auto Open Door tech that conveniently releases the door with just a tap on the recessed handle.

The Samsung Bespoke Infinite Line Refrigerator offers a bit of modular flexibility, letting buyers choose from fridge, freezer, or wine cellar models. Whichever combination is chose, the bespoke fridge bears a timeless design that uses simple lines and hiqh-quality materials, bringing a touch of class to your kitchen. And to match is premium exterior appearance, the refrigerator’s interior is refined with Black Metal Cooling that creates a visual illusion of depth while helping keep food fresher at the same time.

Accompanying these new refrigerators is a Bespoke AI Oven whose minimalist design belies its intelligence. With an internal camera and a powerful AI, the oven can detect and alert you when food is about to be burned, though you could also just let the oven decide the cooking time and method depending on the dish inside. In addition to keeping the food inside safe, the oven also helps keep people safe with a Push to Open door that replaces the traditional handle that isn’t just safer to use but also looks more refined and more streamlined.

This sleek built-in oven features an interface panel that doubles up as a hidden handle

If you love cooking but can never find enough time for it, or you’re completely terrified of cooking but you need to start, and don’t know where to start – then you’ve reached the right place. The first step towards having a streamlined and efficient cooking experience is to have an arsenal of functional kitchen appliances by your side. With the right kitchen tools and appliances, cooking can be a fun and effortless process. The right products can reduce your prep time in half, make the little cooking tasks much easier, and help you with tedious and complicated techniques. And one such product we recently encountered is the HIDE oven.

Designer: Alperen Çağdaş

The HIDE is a sleek and clean-looking built-in oven with a sneaky movable interface panel, and concealed handles. Now, what does that mean exactly? Recently, automatic doors have become quite popular in ovens. These kinds of ovens are great, because they seamlessly merge with your kitchen space, providing a beautifully streamlined look. They usually have a touch button to open them, and the whole handleless experience can feel pretty cool. However, if you’re an old-school person who prefers a more hands-on experience while cooking – then you may have a soft spot for solid old ovens with a handle. Handles are also a better option in terms of safety. And, the HIDE oven perfectly integrates both!

HIDE provides both a handle, as well as an automatic option to open the oven door. The interesting part is that the touch panel of the appliance functions as its handle as well! The intuitive panel is almost invisible (hence the name HIDE) until you touch it and begin to operate it. When you’re done adjusting the settings of the oven, you can use the panel to open or shut the oven door. This jet black panel can move in two directions – so you can pick a position that suits you and open the oven with ease.

The hidden handle creates an element of mystery in the appliance. It’s almost fun to simply open or shut the oven door, and of course, if you’re in a bit of a hurry, you can always go for the automatic option, and operate the oven door without the handle! Currently, HIDE is still a concept, however, we look forward to such an innovative and futuristic appliance hopefully hitting the market soon…

BORA X BO smart steam oven makes cooking feel like a chore

Many fitness gurus will say that the first and hardest battle in staying healthy and fit happens in the kitchen. Everyone knows that they should eat healthily, but very few know how to proceed from there. Preparing your own food is the most recommended way to keep tabs on what you eat, and that’s where most of us stop because of the work involved. Short of a Star Trek replicator or a robot that could actually make the food for us, most of us will probably settle for a cooking appliance that will at least take care of most of the other chores for us, like cleaning the oven or stove. BORA’s latest darling, the BORA X BO flex oven, comes close to being that dream smart oven, automating and taking care of many parts of the cooking process, leaving you free to focus on preparing and then enjoying your healthy dish.

Designer: BORA

Cooking is a multi-step process that may feel overwhelming for some, especially when they think about the cleanup they have to do afterward. Ovens, in particular, are notorious for being hard to clean, especially to get rid of odors. Keeping tabs on the food’s temperature and making sure you don’t stink up the whole house are tiring jobs in themselves, and you’ll be forgiven if you wished that ovens were smart enough to do that themselves. The BORA X BO is, thankfully, and it makes the cooking process a lot less burdensome, especially for the parts you might have taken for granted.

The BORA X BO can be as simple or as complicated as you’d like or need, scaling to users of different skill levels. All its operations are driven by a bright and colorful 19-inch touch display on top, including setting food preferences, looking up recipes, or manually tweaking each and every possible option there is. Or you could set it to automatic and let the oven do the heavy lifting for you. With so many features, you might easily feel overwhelmed, but you can customize the screen and rearrange things to fit our workflow. You can also search for settings and features using the on-screen keyboard, which is faster than tapping and swiping through menus. And since very few people actually read paper manuals, BORA included an animated guide right on the screen.

The oven supports plenty of cooking methods and recipes, but its intelligence and convenience go beyond the direct act of cooking. Worried that you didn’t stick the thermometer properly into your meat? The four points on the metal probe each have their own sensor, so you won’t have to fret over that. Worried that opening the oven door will suddenly flood your vision with steam and your kitchen with fish odor? BORA X BO will extract all the steam and filter the odor before you can even open the door. Want to make sure nobody accidentally touches the oven or its settings while you go walk the dog? Leave a message on the large screen for everyone to read.

The BORA X BO also takes care of the most dreaded post-cooking task of all, cleaning. Put in the recyclable two-chamber cleaning cartridge, tap the cleaning function, and step back to watch the oven do its magic. It sprays and spins water and cleaning material around its stainless steel interior and automatically drains and dries it afterward, so you won’t have to lift a finger except to take out the single-use cleaning cartridge. Cleaning an oven has never been that easy or effortless.

The flex oven stands out not just in features but also in its handsome looks, its black panels and tinted front panel providing a sharp contrast against other fixtures in any kitchen. Multi-level LED lighting lets you see the food inside as they are, despite the tinted panel, helping remove the guesswork and ease worries about the dish’s state. While steam ovens have been around for years, the BORA X BO gives the cooking appliance a much-needed upgrade, making cooking almost as easy as using your phone.

Outdoor pizza ovens to host the ultimate pizza party in your yard

In these pandemic-stricken times, we find ourselves spending more and more time at home. However, sitting in the same old four walls of our bedroom can become quite boring, and sometimes the only fresh air we really get is when we step out into our yards. Although we shouldn’t underestimate our backyards, they can be locations of major fun, recreation, and relaxation…depending on how we do them up! How about hosting a pizza party in your backyard? The key to a successful pizza party…is an amazing pizza oven! The right outdoor oven can create the perfect pizza for you, helping you win the title of best host! From wood-fired portable oven with a rotating base + stove to a stove-friendly oven that lets you bake indoors and outdoors – these innovative oven designs are all you need to transform your backyard into a pizzeria!

1. The Noori V02 AIRY

Boasting an enameled steel construction, the Noori V02 AIRY is a multifunctional outdoor grill, pizza oven, rocket stove, and a fire pit – all in one! Not to mention, it’s probably one of the best-looking grills I’ve seen in a long time, it’ll be the perfect visual accessory to your backyard. The grill consists of six refractory concrete internal plates. These plates + an AIRY cylinder make up the grill’s innovative AIRY system (which also gives the product its name). This basically means that to set up an open fire, you simply need to remove a few refractory plates from within the AIRY cylinder, which instantly exposes the flames, creating the mesmerizing flame dance we all love to watch in an open fire! Much like its predecessor the Noori V02 AIRY also features a pizza disc, allowing you to not only bake up some pizzas but bread as well. The disc also supports roasters, and containers suitable for ovens.

2. NUO

An essential appliance for a compact kitchen, NUO is designed for the world beyond large, electric ovens. This one is actually a hybrid oven that lets the baker choose between gas or wood flame. The oven works conveniently without electricity and sits comfortably on a flat surface courtesy of its metal legs. On a simple push of the knob – placed on the side of the oven – the NUO can ignite automatically and then allows one to toggle between the choice of flame and its intensity. With a chimney on top that permits exhaust control, the oven can reach temperatures of up to 500-degree Celsius within and the thermal insulation ensures the pizza cooks evenly, without heating the body of the oven from the outside.

3. The Dome

Dubbed the Dome, this compact oven by Gozney is very versatile. It is a professional-grade outdoor oven designed to work effortlessly for experienced chefs and novice ones alike. Whether you have guests over on a Sunday afternoon or have a family dinner, Gozney Dome can be there to take care of the cooking needs as long you have wood to burn. Even though wood-fired cooking is ideal in an outdoor setting if that’s not what the kids want – turn the dial and switch to the built-in gas burner and continue cooking at temperatures up to 500°C. You can roast, steam, smoke, bake or BBQ inside the 25- x 24- x 28-inch Dome that includes a digital thermometer – a big upgrade over gimmicky ovens designed for the outdoors!

4. The Ooni Karu 16 multifuel pizza oven

The Ooni Karu 16 multifuel pizza oven is a sleek appliance with various fuel options! You can use either wood or charcoal to create the perfect pizza in the comfort of your own backyard. Or you could even power the oven using the Ooni Karu 16 Gas Burner. The oven gets heated up to 950° F within 15 minutes. Quite quick, no? You can also utilize the oven to roast meat, veggies, and bake some fresh bread! The hinged oven door has been equipped with ViewFlame technology to ensure you have a clear view of your pizza at all times. It also boasts an internal mounted thermometer that keeps you updated on the temperature of the oven.

5. The Relic Oven

The Relic Oven is a modular outdoor kitchen appliance with a three-part top and two options for the base. This allows you to bake your pizza almost anywhere – from a backyard table to your favorite grill! The innovative oven also comes along with a set of unique accessories, such as pizza stones, stone mounts for kettle grills, and other miscellaneous devices. Handcrafted and built to last a lifetime, the Relic Oven is also weatherproof, durable, and shock-resistant, making it the ideal oven not only for your backyard parties, but your camping trips as well!

6. The Cook Nook

With the combo appliance like the Cook Nook fueled by gas, you can save time and money while in the kitchen, in the backyard, or when hiking or camping in the outdoors. Such an appliance that does not require electricity is useful in everyday life and even in case of an emergency. In addition to cooking a fresh meal or a quick snack, this can even be used to bring frozen food to life. For its convenience and portability, the Cook Nook toaster, oven, and stove will be a welcome product in the lives of the outdoorsy as it will solve the problem of finding an electric outlet for its needs.

7. The Ember

Called the Ember, this conceptual portable oven features a monolithic design and has a sleek and clever build to ensure it can be used on a stove’s flame – without electricity – to create that ideal condition for baking. You can use this space-saving oven on the kitchen counter, or as I said, pack it along on your way out for camping. But as the designer puts it, the oven is more specifically a solution designed to facilitate baking in small kitchens. Given its process of baking, Ember is able to bake healthier food in small domestic spaces faster as compared to conventional ways.

8. QubeStove

QubeStove’s new rotating pizza oven dons a heavy gauge stainless steel coat that shines with all the possibilities of different pizza pies. The heavy gauge stainless steel looks clean and packs a punch, but it also establishes the oven’s long-lasting durability and ability to retain a lot of heat (that’s upwards of 1,000℉). A high-temperature, ceramic glass door both allows users to check on their food without opening the oven and covers the woodfire, inner mechanics. Once the oven’s hot enough and after you’ve decided on your pizza toppings, garlic marinara, cheddar cheese, seared pineapple (maybe), some fresh basil, you can slide it right onto the oven’s rotating pizza stone and watch the magic happen.

9. The Campo

The Campo, inspired by the curves of an Apple Watch and the concept of a portable EV battery, is made in nature-friendly colors. Its helmet-like design, where the visor (the lid in this case) can be rolled up with a handle. Inside you have a magnetically fastened plate, over which you can keep the item you want to cook or heat and set the timer (which is displayed on the handle you can roll back down to start the microwave). The ease of portability is ensured by a locking mechanism on the side of the unit, which locks in place when the handle is rolled up or pushed down flat.

10. The Kalamazoo Artisan Fire Outdoor Gas Pizza Oven

The Kalamazoo Artisan Fire Outdoor Gas Pizza Oven boasts an impressive flame much like the ones you would find in a brick oven! This innovative gas oven cooks your pizza at a precise temperature to ensure it is perfectly done. Simply preheat it for forty-five minutes, and your pizza will be cooked with gas swiftly. It’s perfect for those pizza parties in your backyard!

OhGizmo! Review: The Uuni 2S Is The Portable Wood-fired Pizza Oven You’ve Been Waiting For

Uuni-20160127-7306

There’s a bunch of ways you can make your own pizza at home, but if you ever have a chance to get it cooked in a wood-fired oven, you’ll realize just how awesome these are. Unfortunately, these tend to be huge, not portable in the least, cost a fortune, and therefore are out of reach. The Uuni 2S that we received as a review unit a few weeks ago however is none of the above. It’s extremely portable and costs a very reasonable $300. It uses granulated wood pellets as fuel, which are energy dense and low in cost, and is able to reach temperatures of 900F (480C) in as little as 10 minutes of heat-up time. That’s hot enough to cook a pizza in 2 minutes. Or at least, this is what the company claims. So how did it do? Let’s find out.

IMG_9010

The Hardware
Assembling the Uuni 2S took about 8 minutes. No special tools are required beyond the included Allen key, and everything fits together easily with the few screws provided. The legs just fold out. The interior features double-walled insulation, which we assume is meant to keep some of the heat in. The baking stone, really a large slab of aluminum (if the Internet is to be believed), simply slides into place. The entire oven went from the box to ready-to-bake in 10 minutes.

Uuni-20160127-7404

It’s constructed of what appears to be stainless steel, with wooden handles. The flue is pretty tall, about 24 inches, and the entire setup weighs just 24lbs and measures 12x35x48 cm or 4.7×13.7×18.8 inches (without the legs). You’ll be able to spit out pizzas up to 13 inches across. Overall the construction quality seems good, with no loose parts or ill-fitting segments.

IMG_9012

The Performance
Getting the unit fired up simply involved scooping up some of the pellets, putting some lighter fluid on them and flicking a lighter. It took about 10 minutes to get the fire really going, and maybe another 10 to get the temperatures up to the apparent maximum. There’s no thermometer, unfortunately, so there’s a bit of guesswork involved. The chimney pulls the smoke out very efficiently, so the interior of the oven just gets hot with flames licking the upper section.

Uuni-20160128-7719

Once we had a pizza prepared, we popped it in and closed the front door. We knew of the claims of 90 second bake times, so we were careful… but not careful enough. The first pizza we made came out somewhat burned on one side. We figured there was a learning curve, so the next one we decided to rotate after about 40 seconds. That did the trick and the result is what you see above. It was… amazing. The crust was crispy on the underside, the top was perfectly cooked with little bits of burn but mostly just melted goodness. It literally took about 100 seconds to cook, maybe even a bit less.

IMG_9018

It does require constant attention. The device burns through the pellets quickly, so you have to keep an eye on them if you don’t want temperatures to drop. Replenishing the hopper is easy though, with the included scoop. Then, since it cooks the pizzas so quickly, you pretty much have to stand next to it for two minutes, which makes it impossible to do anything else simultaneously. So between keeping the Uuni 2S fed, baking the pizza and making the next, you’ll find it hard to actually eat. Your guests however will be delighted to devour some of the finest pizza we’ve tasted, with perfectly cooked dough, just crispy enough to satisfy even the most demanding pizza snobs.

Everything does get covered in a good layer of soot, but that’s kind of unavoidable with this kind of setup.

Conclusion
All in all, we’re really impressed with the Uuni 2S. We were able to bake delicious pizzas at home in 90 seconds. The baking stone did an excellent job of crisping the underside, while the top was cooked to perfection. Setting up was a breeze, and given the $300 asking price, we’d be hard-pressed to find a better way to make pie than this.

We would have liked to see an integrated thermometer to take some of the temp-related guesswork out of the equation, but that’s a minor quibble. If you’ve been eyeing this unit but aren’t sure if it’s worth the price, we wholeheartedly say: it is.

The Roccbox Portable Stone Bake Oven Will Bake You A Pie In 90 Seconds

Screen Shot 2015-06-10 at 11.40.17 AM

Burgers, dogs, and kabobs are stapes at BBQs. But it’s not too often you’ll see people making pizza. That’s because tossing an uncooked pie on a regular grill might not get you the best results. But if you pack the Roccbox, everything changes. The innovative design features a slab of stone, and a specially designed rear burner that works either with gas or wood. In 15 minutes you can have a 500C (932F) oven, which can take your pie from raw to cooked in 90 seconds flat. The outer section is covered in a protective silicone shell, which helps in not getting your fingers toasted along with your pizza. But it isn’t only pizza that you can make in the Roccbox: “it enables the baking of breads, cooking of fish, roasting of meats, vegetables, desserts and much, much more.” It is portable at 20kg (44lbs), but not exactly super light. Still, for what it does, we are intrigued. And at £349 ($541USD), it’s not outrageously expensive.

A Pizza Oven That Looks Like A Pizza Box

pizza-oven

Other than “why not?”, we can’t think of a single reason why anyone would want a pizza oven that looks like a pizza box at first glance. But hey, as long as it makes decent pizza, right? The 1,200-Watt heating element can bring temperatures up to 525 degrees Fahrenheit, and the rotating inner dish ensures that pizzas up to 12 inches across can get baked evenly. A 30 minute timer allows you to go do something else and not worry about burning your pie. Sure, it’s a gimmick but at $48, it’s not a complete waste of money.

LG patents RFID-labelled cookbook, attempts to offer more than just another place to spill sauce

LG gets RFIDlabelled cookbook patent to make the fight against food easier

LG is no stranger to mixing together patents and white goods and this time its trying to bridge the gap between recipes and those all-too-often underwhelming results. One of its patents, granted today, outlines the idea of two RF tags that would offer food information and appliance specs, with a reader located on a terminal (say, an oven) that would attempt to bridge the gap between the two. This (likely wireless) device would then connect to a server, which would return operating details for cooking that specified "food information" on your appliance of choice. LG also hints at the ability of expanding the remit of a book when enough info can't be given due to the space limitations of the printed word, hopefully offering up some added value to any compatible future cookbooks. Well, you've got to try and explain those connected fridge and oven costs somehow, right?
