Modellista brings insane overlanding capabilities to Land Cruiser 2025 that’s dressed to impress

At SEMA 2024 the newly launched Toyota Land Cruiser 2025 model saw a chunky makeover thanks to the in-house bred Japanese aftermarket company Modellista, a subsidiary of Toyota Motor Corporation. The Overland Vision Concept is one of the prototypes shown off by Toyota at the automotive mecca.

The vehicle is modded to bring extreme overlanding capability to the otherwise benign Land Cruiser. According to Modellista their core vision behind this design is to explore the potential of the brand in the U.S. If they intend on achieving what they’ve set their eyes on, the ultra-rugged Land Cruiser model will be a reality in the future pitted against the futuristic Cybertruck.

Designer: Modellista

This concept is a heavily armored vehicle that made heads turn at the SEMA show for its Cyberpunk look and bold character. It comes with an array of inclusions like aggressive off-road tires, lower body panels, fender flares, skid plates, a lift kit, headlight protection, side-carrying containers, a roof-mounted tent and a centrally mounted ladder. The aftermarket specialist made judicious use of amber green LED lights and a full-width light bar above the grille. These green LED accents extend to the whole front fascia and rear section to lend the ride an intimidating persona.

Overland Vision Concept has brush wires all around to protect against dents and scratches from exposure to the tough off-roading adventures, a dystopian future, or an apocalyptic warzone. Modellista has given the grille a good treatment of the TOYOTA logo with the Land Cruser branding below the bumper. The vehicle carries a two-tone theme in black and silver spilling over to the dark black tinted windows which make it a good candidate for a VVIP entourage.

It’ll be exciting to see how American adventure lovers see this lucrative Overlander pitted against the likes of the Ford F150 Raptor, Land Rover Defender, Jeep Gladiator, or Toyota Tacoma!

Kia unveils off-road capable EV concepts high on customization and spirit of adventure

This year’s Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas saw its share of plug-in concepts, and Kia outshone them all. Known to be one of the biggest automotive ensembles when it comes to trending aftermarket modifications, the show saw the unveiling of the KIA Design Center America (KDCA) designed pair of all-electric concepts tailored for off-road adventures.

One of them is the EV9 ADVNTR Concept SUV based on Kia’s three-row electric EV9 SUV that debuted last year. This one looks much closer to a production-ready version, has to be said. The second one is the PV5 WKNDR concept EV Van built on the brand’s Purpose Beyond Vehicles more commonly known as PBVs. According to the design team, these two custom lifestyle vehicles “intrinsically blend form and function into machines designed for responsible engagement with nature.” Although none of these concepts is slated for a production run yet, we can expect more to transpire in a couple of year’s time.

Designer: Kia

The beefed-up variant of the EV9 SUV is 3 inches higher and comes with adventure and off-roading grade inclusions such as an improved roof rack for hauling adventure gear or pitching a bespoke roof-mounted tent, reinforced rocker panels for underbody protection, rugged tires for maximum traction, custom front and rear facias for assistance in approach and departure angles. When it’s time to set up camp for the night, the vehicle is your comfy mobile campsite.

PV5 WKNDR is more oriented towards longer stays away from home. The EV is well-equipped for wild overlanding adventures away from habitation. The vehicle can make your unknown adventure possible for weeks or even months in a single go. Kia labels the modular interior of the WKNDR as a Swiss army knife on wheels. The off-road capable vehicle comes with a pop-up camper, mobile kitchen, air compressor for filling up tires or inflating mattress, front-mounted winch, and loads of innovative storage solutions to stash all your essentials. One that we like in particular is the kitchen-style slide-out system that stores loads of things without taking up any interior space. It also comes with solar panels on top and innovative hydro turbine wheels to recharge the batteries.

Tufport’s ultra-utilitarian Overlanding camper fits full and mid-sized 4x4s with ease

Tufport has just entered the trending overlanding market with a stunning iteration that looks robust enough for the beaten paths and adverse weather conditions. This rugged off-road-ready mobile home dubbed The Sea to Sky model, is tailored for adventurers who like things minimal, yet full-proof for extended trips.

As soon as you step inside, everything is ultra-utilitarian and modular to make maximum use of space. The Canada-based manufacturer has a strong product when we stack it against the likes of TruckHouse, Scout Campers, or the Hilux conversion by Direct Cars. For Overlanding pick-up owners, all these options and this new one by Tufport are the best recommended all-in-one solutions when we talk of slide-in truck bed campers.

Designer: Tufport

This first-ever model in the Overlander truck camper series is crafted out of a lightweight one-piece composite fiberglass construction to put minimum stress on your pick-up or 4×4’s engine. Going by Tufport’s industrial strength standards, the rig is designed to be ultra-watertight. It fits easily with most full-size and mid-size trucks with a 6.5’ box, so compatibility should not be an issue. Interior space and headroom are nothing to worry about as it has a height of 65” and an interior width of 72”, good enough for tall individuals as well.

Coming onto the utilitarian aspect, there are plenty of storage cabinets, a couch that transforms into a twin bed, over cab sleeping area, and a galley kitchen with a counter and vertical pantry section. There’s nothing on the inside (accessible via the rear door) that you’ll find out of place or unnecessary in the Sea to Sky camper. The windows on the camper are tinted and screened to let in natural light for a more airy feel. Along with this, the roof vent keeps the interiors well-ventilated.

To give the owners more freedom for customization as per their liking, Tufport will be offering the hard shell as a blank canvas. If someone desires to have a four-season ready rig at the time of delivery, they can choose the optional OEM add-ons, including sinks, induction cooktops, heaters, or refrigerators. Along with this serious off-roaders can also get the camper fitted with a roof rack (to mount, gear, kayaks, or skis), solar panel array for off-grid living, and extendable awning to have complete freedom.

The Sea to Sky Overlander will officially release the rig as Overland Expo Mountain West, and hopefully, the pricing will also be revealed. Just for reference, the Adventure slide-in shell model comes at a price tag of $9,495, so the Overlander camper one should be priced more than this version given its well-outfitted interiors and extra features. Interested adventure lovers can take the initial leap with a $1,000 deposit to secure the waitlist spot.

This retro-styled aluminized fiberglass camper makes this design lightweight, corrosion-resistant and last a lifetime!

If you have been struggling with wood and steel campers that have a short lifespan and are heavy to drag behind your vehicle, spare a thought for the 17-ft recreational travel trailer by Cortes Campers. These camper enthusiasts are toying with modern, lightweight aerospace materials and have molded aluminized fiberglass for the construction of their camper that is packed with all amenities and is featherweight to tow around behind your EV. Touted to be “approximately 50-percent lighter, much stronger, and smarter” compared to present-day campers, the 17-ft RV travel trailer is a true four-season trailer capable of handling everything your throw at it. Streamlined for weekend getaways and long vacations alike, the Cortes Campers trailer is immune to rust and corrosion and is immensely convenient to drive on the road in comparison to traditional campers.

Cortes Campers manufactures retro-styled trailers using patent-pending biaxial aluminized fiberglass, carbon fiber and finishes them with marine-grade Gelcoat. In addition to their feathery weight, these travel trailers are extremely durable, robust, well-insulated and long-lasting. Since the camper lacks a wooden interior, one could count it out for being grungy, but your thought is instantly altered at the first look of the glossy interiors. The camper is not short on facilities either, it comes equipped with a double or twin bed for ease of sleeping people of all age groups – at the end of the trailer is a dining area equipped with a carbon fiber/Kevlar table, which transforms into a bed.

The luxurious yet nostalgic retro travel trailers are also equipped with a kitchen featuring a full-sized refrigerator, microwave, oven, a cooktop and a sink, and has a bathroom with a toilet, sink and shower. The trailer also comes fitted with HDTV, heating and cooling solutions and water tanks for fresh and gray water. The luxurious 17-ft travel trailer has lot of storage space, windows, and customers can choose from palette Gelcoat color finishes. Each of these trailers can be customized and shipped in 6-8 weeks from order from the company’s manufacturing facility in Cleveland, Ohio. If you are interested, the aluminized fiberglass version of the travel trailer starts at $47,950.

A HEIMPLANET geodesic tent comes integrated in this 4WD electric truck to keep you adventure ready!

Electric pick-up trucks are going to be the next big rage as Cybertruck paves the way for others like the Rivian R1Tor Lordstown Endurance to bring the taste of this new revolution to the eager consumers. The upcoming trend has also aroused California-based Alpha Motor Corporation. Still, they are already looking ahead of time with an electric pick-up truck with an outlandish Overlanding version in the pipeline. Meet the Wolf + Cloudbreak – created in collaboration with HEIMPLANET – as the exciting future of electric mobility for outdoor adventure seekers!

HEIMPLANET is a German camping and adventure gear specialist company that has worked with Alpha Motor Corporation to build a unique version of the Cloudbreak geodesic tent. The expansive tent becomes a part of the vehicle, extending the usable footprint of the electric truck to give the adventurous riders almost double the space to set camp safely. The structure is highly weather-proof and stable, with dual access points to the vehicle – resulting in a safe and functional camping setup. To be precise, it is made out of high tenacity polyester that is resistant to tear. According to HEIMPLANET Co-Founder Stefan Clauss, “We have been searching for the perfect structure that guarantees stability and offers comfortable access. Many structures offer either one or another, but with this geodesic structure, we found the perfect balance.”

Teams in both camps are working dedicatedly to bring the unique outdoor adventure experience to the masses. Alpha Motor’s production offer is grounded in coexistence with nature, with upcycling at the core of the think tank. The MUV here is the perfect example of their belief in the German word “Heimat,” which means a place you can call home – a place that makes you feel safe no matter what. “We are passionate to find sustainable solutions that people can truly appreciate,” said the team as they tease the Wolf + Cloudbreak concept in a special edition Carmel White color inspired by the sandstones of Carmel Beach, California.

Wolf + Cloudbreak is still in the development phase, and it remains to be seen how it fares when the final model is ready. For now, the makers promise a driving range of around 260 miles on a single charge on the dual-motor 4WD. Since it has an electric drivetrain, there is more space under the hood to store adventure gear or other essentials. It can be a haven for four passengers with the expansive tent stuffed in the bed or maybe hauled behind like a trailer. It is safe to assume that the vehicle will have optional solar panel attachments and an extendable tray-like space to store the geodesic tent from the images. The idea seems utterly fascinating, and one which I’m keen on exploring ASAP!

This all-electric off-road teardrop trailer redefines the luxury of your camping experience!

Ones who like to camp, spending an outdoorsy life for the majority of their time – a comfy camping trailer is a way to go. But when a caravan is heightened to an improved level of comfortable and convenient supremacy, the experience is elevated to a whole new level. Of all the campers we’ve seen thus far, the Colorado Campworks NS-1 is a complete package for digital nomads who settle for nothing but the best. Their design philosophy reflects their motives and aims to make camping better to a degree where it is reinvented.

Thomas Hoffman, a design student at the University of Colorado, managed to work at EarthRoamer (famous overland camper builder) as part of his senior design project after graduation. This polished his overlander skills, and he finally had the confidence to create something of his own – in the process, creating a teardrop trailer startup that now can be deemed as the best camper trailer out there money can buy. The NS-1 (Nomadic Systems 1) was in the works ever since his design project at the university, and once Hoffman was confident about his skills, the project finally saw fruition. This all-electric rugged camper runs solely on solar power with the ability to power the onboard electronics and appliances, including cabin heater, kitchen, lights, and more. That’s achieved with the roof-mounted 200-W solar cells, 200-Ah lithium-iron-phosphate battery, and 3,000-W inverter. Although the teardrop camper is very compact, the occupants won’t find anything missing on the inside.

The trailer on top of the all-terrain wheels is made out of a mono composite shell with insulation from the inside. Keeping in mind the needs of Overlanding adventures, NS-1 can carry anything that’s required – shovel, canisters, surfboard mounts, or bike racks. There’s space for overhead storage and a queen-size mattress that can be rolled up to convert the bed with storage into a dining room for two. For water needs, the trailer comes with a Front Runner awning, a 20-gallon water tank, a water heater, and the convenience of an outdoor shower supplying hot water for a relaxing bath in the serene natural settings.

The electric kitchen can be beefed-up to a chef-level kitchen (for an additional $3,250) that comes with a Traeger smoker, Breville Smart Oven, SnoMaster cooler, and other goodies, along with the basic slide-out kitchen having storage drawers, sink, and electric cooktop. The trailer can also be upgraded with three options – a $2,500 Digital Nomad addition (adding Wi-Fi and charging station), a $6,000 Supercharged package (doubling the battery power), or the $3,000 Four Season package (adding insulation, heated water tank, and the water recirculation capability).

That is on top of the $36,000 price tag of the trailer that sure sounds expensive, but the options it brings to the basic package are also worth noting – not to forget the powder-coated tubular frame and the off-roading capability honed by the Timbren 3500 HD Axle-less suspension, electric drum brakes, and the 15-in wheels are centered inside 285/70R15 BFGoodrich KO2 all-terrain tires. For someone already liking the Colorado Campworks NS-1 camper’s prospect, there is also a base model in works that’ll be offered at $20,000.

This trailer comes equipped with a 360-degrees rotating hitch to keep you off-grid for seven days

During the pandemic, there has been a considerable demand for safe options to get into the outdoors while maintaining the social distancing norms. When hotels remained closed, and the conventional form of tourism was brought to a standstill, there was a considerable rise in the demand for RV, campers, and travel trailers. This demand saw camping trailers with the ability to keep inhabitants off-the-grid fly of the shelf in no time. No wonder then, Taxa Outdoors is making all possible commitment to cater to this demand with a significant revamp to its overloading trailers led by the all new TigerMoth Overland.

The new trailers keep with the Taxa Outdoors’ philosophy of delivering adventure vehicles that can safely and efficiently get the outdoorsy off-the-grid and pamper them in substantial luxury. The company has four towable trailers it calls “mobile human habitats” and the updated lineup for 2021 sees three revamped overland editions. These overhauled overland edition trailers – the Mantis, Cricket, and TigerMoth (all overland models) – have the equipment and forte to take habitants to isolated and remote locations.

The improvement to 2020 Mantis, the new Mantis Overland features improved air conditioning and its kitchen has been updated for better facilities on the move. The more economical Cricked Overland edition is inspired by NASA and has been designed to accommodate two adults and two children. It now has an increased ground clearance, which is also a feature in the TigerMoth Overland. Priced at $24,950, the Tiger Moth Overland is the least expensive of the lot and it comes with an optional air conditioning unit, features a new 360-degree rotating hinge, upgraded suspension, and a pull-out kitchen.

TigerMoth Overland edition, Taxa Outdoors notes, is a habitat built for adventuring. In that accord, the ground clearance of the trailer is increased with the Timbren 2200lbs axles-less suspension. The Overlanding trailer with a dry weight of 1,458 lbs, has a number of premium accessories onboard necessary for those venturing off-road. TigerMoth has been designed to sleep up to three people using an optional roof tent extension and it can, thanks to the electrical solar, and water systems, stay off-grid for up to seven days.

Another interesting aspect of the trailer is its articulating lock n’ roll hitch, which utilizes “360 degrees of rotation and 3 axis movement,” giving more freedom of movement necessary in unpaved roads. With the higher suspension, off-road capable hitch, and 5.5-square foot pull-out kitchen (complete with two-burner stovetop), the TigerMoth Overland is an appropriate off-grid camping trailer for adventurists in 2021.

Ex-Lamborghini designer designs a Jeep Vangler-inspired Overlanding van tailored for extreme jungle safaris!

Remember the Jeep Forward Control light commercial vehicle introduced way back in 1956, that in a way revolutionized the commercial transportation scenario in America? If you see the glimpses of the Jeep Forward Control in this dapper vehicle – that’s only natural. Designed by Germany-based Samir Sadikhov who’s had considerate experience at Lamborghini, Genisis and Rezvani, the Overlanding capable vehicle christened Jeep Vangler looks absolutely stunning and is perfect for an extreme jungle safari.

Most of all it’s not an outrageously radical design that looks good on paper but when one thinks of practicality it falls flat on the face. Samir’s design is essentially a Jeep Wrangler inspired van that’s created to take on any terrain and for people who like open-air adventures. Since it has the genome of the Forward Control, the hood has been chopped off, and has an even boxier profile than the Wrangler. The chunkier tires, a row of fog lights, and winch at the front – all assure its off-roading capabilities. To spice up things the designer has envisioned a more traditional van-like design and yet another that has a more safari vehicle like feel thanks to the glass-less rail doors. Both these iterations have plenty of space on the roof basket to haul your belongings for a long adventure trip, so you can carry as much load as you intend to on the Vangler.

By the look of things, the vehicle seems to have an independent suspension system, loads of ground clearance and penned to be an electric drivetrain since the hood is virtually non-existent. So the only option would be to have an electric drivetrain on the floor with battery storage on the rear or on the floor itself. The stunning off-road van looks good for an adventure trip with your family since it can accommodate 7-9 people as there are three rows of seating. Vangler puts up a strong case for automotive manufacturers (Jeep in particular) to give this design a serious thought, and there’s even extended possibility with Samir’s design to be converted into a campervan, now that would get anybody excited won’t it?
