Inflatable furniture isn’t a completely alien concept these days, but most of the time, it is more focused on air mattresses that stay in one place most of the time. The benefits of such a kind of bed are still arguable. Some definitely swear by their ergonomic and comfort advantages, while others warn of their short lifespans and harmful long-term effects. This particular air-filled piece of furniture, however, has a pretty different and specific objective that may actually appeal to a larger number of people than air mattresses. This inflatable chair is designed to be a portable seating solution you can set up in any outdoor environment, though its practicality and comfort are left to the readers’ imaginations.

At long last, people finally appreciate outdoor activities, whether it’s engaging in exercise or simply kicking up one’s feet at a campsite. The latter is ironically a bit more stressful despite how it sounds, mostly because of the preparations and equipment needed to make a truly comfortable experience. You don’t have to go crazy over those, of course, especially if you just want to sit back and chill. All you really need is something to sit on, which is exactly what this concept tries to offer in a very portable manner.
The Bag Sofa is an inflatable chair designed for easy carrying to any location. Unlike something like an air mattress, it folds down to a very flat rectangular piece that you can carry around like a bag, hence the name. Part of the bag is made of hard pieces that form the structure or frame of the sofa, while soft cloth-like parts serve as the connecting materials that allow the chair to fold. It’s almost like those fabric-covered foldable boxes, except it’s shaped to form the semblance of a chair when unfolded.
The inflatable part forms the “filling” of the sofa that lets you actually sit on it and provide something soft enough to be a bit comfortable compared to wood or metal. The same fabric material is draped over the transparent inflatable bag to create a more pleasing appearance and protect the skin from sticking to the bag’s synthetic surface.
The idea for Bag Sofa is to be able to simply set up a seat anywhere outdoors and then pick it up again to move on. It may be an alluring concept, but it does raise the question of how easily you can inflate the thing in the first place. If you’re traveling extremely light with nothing but the folded chair, you will most likely have to rely on your own lungs to fill it up, which is contrary to the relaxing outdoor experience that the concept tries to sell.
Dubbed the Tripster, this unique portable chair from Trippy Outdoor is a convenient little piece that you can stash in your garage or the back of your car and pop out whenever you need it!
I had to stop myself from calling the Tripster a foldable chair because honestly, it doesn’t really fold. Built with a unique yet incredibly simple assembly mechanism, the Tripster effectively plugs in and out, going between what’s essentially a comfortable high-back outdoor chair, and two easy-to-store pieces of wood.
What Trippy Outdoor so uniquely does is interpret the chair as just two elements – the seat, and the backrest (a feature seen in chairs dating back to the 8th century). By designing a modern outdoor chair just around those two elements, Trippy Outdoor creates a seating device that travels exceptionally well, and is a breeze to set up. The Tripster chair comes with a tall-ish wooden backrest that has a metal bracket screwed in, and a seat, with a wooden plank emerging from its back. The seat slides into the backrest in a parallel format when closed, and perpendicularly when you want to sit down. By nature of the way it’s assembled, the Tripster’s seat and backrest also become its legs, giving you a pretty stable seating experience. To carry your Tripster around, cutouts in its wooden body let you easily slip your hand in and lug the relatively lightweight chair around.
The Tripster weighs a mere 8 lbs, but can take weights of up to 1000 lbs thanks to its sturdy construction. The seat and backrest both use 7-ply maple wood, while the aluminum bracket comes with the Trippy Outdoor logo and is available in 8 vibrant powder-coated colors. Each Tripster is made by hand in Trippy Outdoor’s workshop in Texas, and costs $158.
An umbrella-shaped chair. The idea itself sounds absolutely outrageous until you realize how incredibly clever it is. Think about it… would you rather be carrying an umbrella with you wherever you go, or have those godawful wearable chair-legs strapped to your torso like Gabe from Silicon Valley? The answer is obviously the umbrella, given how ubiquitous it is. It’s compact, and more importantly, is socially acceptable. So when designer Yanagisawa Sera was looking for a way to reinvent the folding chair, hiding it inside an umbrella sounded like a perfect idea!
What’s brilliant about the Hide And Seek chair is its sheer absurdity… along with the fact that it actually works! Sera went straight from the drawing board to the metal workshop to test his idea out and from the looks of it, the umbrella-shaped chair works – at least on a prototype level! The frame of the umbrella was fabricated from stainless steel rods, and is designed to fold right into the umbrella shape when closed. A stretched fabric mounted on the frame helps distribute the weight when you sit, allowing the chair to actually take the weight of an adult human. It does look a tad fragile if I’m being candid, but that’s something that can easily be fixed by using materials like titanium or even carbon fiber. The best part about the entire product is that it folds right back into the shape of a standard umbrella, which means you can place it in backpacks, handbags, or even carry it to the grocery store or a concert… blending right into the crowd right before you open the Hide And Seek and take a seat on the world’s only umbrella-shaped chair! That should definitely grab a few eyeballs!
In fact, under certain circumstances, you could use the Hide And Seek as an umbrella too! Although considering its framework (which is designed to easily take somewhere around 160 lbs of weight) is much more robust than the kind found on most umbrellas, the Hide And Seek would be much heavier than your average umbrella, making it difficult to carry for longer periods of time. Nevertheless, the level of creativity and ingenuity the Hide And Seek demonstrates is truly marvelous… especially given the fact that the outrageously brilliant idea is even backed by a working prototype! Yanagisawa Sera, I hope you’ve filed your patents on this, because it may easily be the most brilliantly creative product design I’ve seen this year!
Take a seat, I am about to show you one of the best outdoor camping chairs. Meet Campster – the most compact, lightweight. durable and portable chair! After selling over 100,000 pieces, intense market analysis, and tonnes of feedback, Copenhagen-based Sitpack refined the camping chair to make one that is truly the king of camping thrones!
The idea behind this chair is simple – you can take it anywhere and you can sit anywhere. The company’s goal is to always create products with multiple usages and timeless design. Constructed from high-end materials, this three-legged chair will let you take a seat wherever you are while ensuring comfort, maneuverability, and stability. Campster’s one-piece telescoping design uses gravity to unfold and Sitpack’s trademark “one-pull” locking system to keep it sturdily in place!
“By using beautifully anodized aluminum we obtain a very exclusive look and feel. Another feature that sets our product apart from most other competitors, is our seat which is readily attached to the seat poles making it a multi-functional seat and protection sleeve – for safe carrying if you forget the carry bag,” explains the team on why they decided to enter the saturated market of chairs and disrupt it. Campster’s height is 43cm/17″ which is not something I’ve seen in any portable chair. The value it gives to the users is sitting high but packing small – the all-in-one frame is complete with a ripstop nylon breathable mesh seat to get the seat weight down to 2 lbs & carry capacity up to 300 lbs. “The simple pivoting arms make for a backrest that will follow you every move, whether you move forward, backward or to the side – as long as you keep your legs on the ground for support, you can move around freely,” adds the team.
It is engineered to be the smallest, lightest, and least restrictive portable chair ever and shows that you don’t need a bulky chair for it to be comfortable. Campster comes with free accessories like the nylon multi-use carry bag, anti-slip elastopolymer addon feet, and an aluminum carabiner. It is truly a chair for all outdoor adventures right from trekking to tailgating, it works for the practical packer and the lazy hiker!

As long as both legs are grounded your can tilt, twist, and tip as much as you like.
Sand, sun, and fun are more accessible than ever with a beach chair or several beach chairs that take up only little room in your car.
