iPhone 5 PowerSkin Silicone Battery Case Now Shipping

If you’re an iPhone 5 user looking for a case to protect your device and in need of extra battery life, PowerSkin has announced a new product is now shipping. The product is called the PowerSkin for Apple iPhone 5 and is made from soft silicone.

The case leaves all of the phone’s controls open and available for use, and its maker promises that the iPhone 5 version is its thinnest design ever, adding only 0.3-inches of additional thickness to the iPhone 5. The case measures 2.5 x .65 x 5.1-inches and weighs only 0.18 pounds. That means that not only is the case incredibly thin, it’s also very light. Despite the fact that the case is very thin and light, it adds 1500 mAh of power to your smartphone. That means you can talk for an extra 6.5 hours, use Wi-Fi for an extra eight hours, and the phone will last on standby for an extra 182 hours.

PowerSkin has been making cases to extend the battery life of various smartphones for a while. The company has now announced a new battery case that sucks. No seriously, it uses suction cups to stick to the back of your smartphone. The case is available in two different styles to fit the iPhone 5 and other devices and is called the PoP’n.

The iPhone 5 case has an Apple Lightning connector and is available in black or white colors. That iPhone 5 version sells for $79.99 (USD). The other version has a micro USB connector and is designed to work with various Android smartphones. The micro-USB version sells for $69.99.

Other than the connector, both versions have the same specifications with a 2000 mAh battery inside promising up to 70% more talk time. The battery device measures 5″(h) x 2.2″(w) x 0.41(d) and weighs 0.4 pounds. Both versions are available to order right now. PowerSkin plans on offering red and pink versions of the case in the future.

PowerSkin has just released the PowerSkin PoP’n phone charger. What makes this external battery unique is that it clips around almost ANY existing case you may already have on your phone. Use the extra power when you need it, when you don’t unclip it and throw it in your bag. The hooked rubber bottom connector is flexible to 90 degrees while the slim 2000 mAh battery attaches the back of your phone or case with an array of suction cups, so it fits most phones even with their cases on. PowerSkin launches NFC-friendly battery case for Galaxy S III

It's tough to get excited about phone cases -- really tough. But, we'll admit that PowerSkin's new Galaxy S III case did pique our interest a bit. It's not a revolutionary design that makes us rethink smartphone protection, but it does pack a number of nice features that definitely make it more interesting than your average silicone skin. Most notable is NFC integration, which means you wont have to take your GS III out of its case to make payments or tap and share data. Of course, like other PowerSkins, it also packs a backup battery (this one a 1,500 mAh pack) that lets you cruise through a day of heavy usage with little worry. That silicone shield should also help keep your precious handset safe in the event of an accidental drop or fall (just don't hit it with a hammer or anything).
