Star Wars Rancor Cake: Eat It Before It Eats You

Don’t be terrified of this Star Wars Rancor cake. You are the one who is going to be devouring him, and not the other way around. This detailed cake was made by Ana Remigio of Cupcakes & Dreams Portugal. It looks a bit cartoony, but still very fierce.

This amazing cake was part of the Star Wars: The Bakers Strike Back cake collaboration, where 40 pastry artists joined forces to create some amazing things while celebrating the release of The Force Awakens.

The detail on this cake is just amazing. It even has skulls and bones of it’s previous victims on the ground around him. Forget what I said earlier. This thing is scary as hell, but at least this cake can’t grab you and put you in it’s mouth.

I bet after you take the first bite, the Rancor’s keeper pushes his way into the room and just cries.

Star Wars Rancor Shows up at Comic-Con

San Diego Comic-Con was the place to be this year as it is every year. But this time, there was a little something extra for fans of giant monsters. Tested enlisted the help of movie effects artist Frank Ippolito to create a scary real-life version of the Rancor beast from Return of the Jedi.

In the video clip below, Tested editor Norman Chan goes over the impressive 3-1/2 week build process that Ippolito and his team went through to make the Rancor a reality.

Frank has also created realistic costumes portraying Admiral Ackbar, Zoidberg, and Professor Farnsworth. This one is far more menacing as he gets into the Rancor costume and makes his way through San Diego. I know I wouldn’t want to meet this guy in a dark pit.

The detail on this costume is just amazing.

Help Give a Rancor Its Cave

You might remember back in August of 2012, when we told you about the 501st legion making a life sized Rancor monster named Roxy. Well, Roxy needs a home and you can help.

Roxy is a giant Rancor prop that the 501st brought to life, but what is a Rancor without a cave? Just a big dumb monster, that’s what. So of course, The 501st wants to build a life-size modular cave set to go with the monster to provide total immersion for photo ops at upcoming conventions.

Basically, it would also act as a portable shipping container for Roxy and a cool set piece at the same time. The prop gets broken often when they move it and this will help keep it safe so you can ogle it in person. Help them fund the project on Kickstarter with a pledge of as little as $5. Higher pledges get you fast access to see Roxy at appearances, as well as all kinds of other Roxy the Rancor swag.

Star Wars Taxidermy is Perfect for Jabba’s Palace

Who among us hasn’t dreamed about mounting a Rancor head above their fireplace? The problem is, it isn’t easy to travel to another star system and travel back in time to hunt one down. I guess that’s the problem with all of the Star Wars creatures.

I mean, check out that Bantha head. How awesome does that look mounted above the fireplace?

How about a Wampa head? A Gungan? A Gungan I would love to see. Especially Jar Jar. I have a special place reserved for him just where I can throw stuff at him.

These photos are all from Tauntr and they are all Photoshopped, but I would love to be able to buy these. You hear that Kickstarter? Please someone make this real. If nothing else, I need Jar Jar’s head now.

501st Legion Builds a Life-sized Rancor Monster, Malakili Cries

There are a lot of huge monsters that I would like to meet in real life, just because they are cool, but the Rancor from Return of the Jedi is not one of them. The Rancor will tear you limb from limb and pick the meat out of it’s teeth with your bones. Still, this life-sized Rancor statue is looking pretty bad-ass.

rancor monsterIf it attacks you, you know what to do. Just pick up a bone from one of it’s previous victims and shove it into it’s mouth. It isn’t smart enough to get it out so it will just get more ticked off. Then pray that there is a heavy gate nearby to drop onto it’s head.

This beast is Roxy the Rancor, a sculpture by the 501st Legion. If you like to poop yourself, it will be unveiled at the upcoming Star Wars Celebration at the end of the month in Orlando, FL. The detail is incredible. Don’t show up in a black Jedi costume. These monsters hate that.
