Pixel Fold renders dream up Google’s next big thing

Google seems to be gearing up to expand its Pixel brand, starting with the shiny new Pixel Watch launched last month. The company also already confirmed that it will be launching its first Pixel-branded tablet next year, and it seems to be taking a rather different course from typical slates like the Apple iPads and the majority of Android tablets. One thing it hasn’t confirmed yet at this point is a foldable device that many are sure is happening next year as well. While nothing is official yet, these beautiful renders and bits of information do paint an almost complete picture of what is being called the Pixel Fold, suggesting that it’s going to be just as divisive as any other foldable phone in the market.

Designer: Jon Presser (Front Page Tech)

Almost everyone is expected to launch a foldable phone these days, including Apple, which is highly unlikely at this point. The reality is that, despite all the buzz and hype, foldables are still seen as an eccentric luxury, a very expensive experiment in what the future of mobile could be. Ironically, that’s exactly the perfect chance for Google to step in with its own take on a foldable Android device, only to announce its retirement a year or two later.

Whether it happens sooner rather than later, these renders, all based on leaked information, represent a close possibility of what the Pixel Fold could look like. Admittedly, it looks very classy and professional, especially with its sparkling chrome edges and reflective glass back. When folded, the external screen looks big enough to be a regular-sized “phablet” or giant phone. Unfolded, however, it means that it would be more square than a typical tablet. There is also no gap near the hinge when the phone is folded, unlike the Galaxy Z Fold series, which isn’t exactly that novel considering that the OPPO Find N and the Huawei Mate Xs 2 have already pulled it off.

While all of the above sound good and expected for such a device, there are a few details that could give would-be buyers pause for thought. The extra large camera bump on the back runs horizontally like the Pixel 7’s, but it is a discrete island rather than a visor. The Pixel 7’s camera design wouldn’t have worked anyway since it would have gotten in the way of the hinge. It’s a rather thick bump, for that matter, and it could make the device wobble when unfolded and laid on a desk. Either way, it looks a bit awkward and very unlike the Pixel 7’s signature design.

The internal screen also has quite some bezel around it, which is a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it’s far wider than what we’re used to these days, even on foldable phones. On the other hand, it possibly leaves enough room for a front camera without resorting to cutouts and under-display gimmicks. According to the leakster, the Pixel Fold is going to be quite heavy in hand, which doesn’t really sound reassuring for this kind of device. That said, that heft could also give it a bit of a premium feel that’s associated with materials like metal rather than cheap plastic.

The biggest deal-breaker, however, might be its rumored $1,800 price tag, a very steep figure at a time when manufacturers like Samsung are trying to make the device category more palatable. Pixel phones do have that mark of being more expensive than comparable phones, so that’s not exactly surprising. It doesn’t inspire confidence, however, given how Google tends to provide or sell products with much buzz only to pull the rug from under people’s feet when they least expect it.

These architectural renders give life to Elon Musk’s dreams of living in space!

How many times have you heard “I just want to leave this planet for a while!” in the last two years? Very often, right? @sixnfive gives brings that sentiment to life with a collection of architectural renders called ‘What If?’ which is an ode to one of our greatest strengths – imagination. Imagination is a uniquely human ability to visualize unlimited possibilities starting with a simple question like “what if?” and the people who ask it often are the ones driving innovation. This collection explores the possible future move for mankind and probably what Musk has in mind through three elaborate acts

Act one: The Journey includes the meeting, the bedroom, and the dinner room. It represents our trip and the hope to arrive, but also the attachments of our mundane life, carrying memories of a previous reality. Act two: The settlements shows the Universe Edge, Summer House, and Landing Zone. It expresses our freedom to dream and imagine how our intergalactic holiday homes would look like. Act three: The Encounter, is based on human emotions of loving someone, missing someone and being guided. It is all about looking inward and looking from inside, the vestiges of our presence in an inhabited and quiet place.

It explores the perception of time, loneliness, and expectations but it also represents the hope to arrive. Yes, this is scientifically inaccurate but it expresses the freedom to dream and imagine via these zen visuals. Six N. 3D architectural renders get surreal with these nature-inspired concrete designs!

Sometimes the most beautiful architectural structures are simply fictional designs, awaiting to manifest into reality. Whenever I see such designs, I am filled with eagerness and impatience, “When and where will I get to see these breathtaking buildings? “And Amey Kandalgaonkar‘s exquisite renderings are one such example. His surreal designs vary from a home snugly fitted into a rock, a traditional pagoda with a modern twist, to a house designed especially for Mr. Elon Musk! Inconceivable, unique, and deeply imaginative, almost all his designs seem to be at one with nature. Natural formations aren’t seen as intrusions here but as an intimate part of the home space.

Almost surreal in appearance, the ‘House Inside a Rock’ by Amey Kandalgaonkar creates a contrast – using a natural stone shape carved from years of battling with nature and a concrete and glass interior to carve out the living space. Taking influence from the rock-cut tomb architecture of Saudi Arabia’s Madain Saleh, this ancient archaeological site is the perfect mix of the old and the new. The designer of the concept says, “When I first saw the images of rock cut-tomb architecture, I knew I had to use it as an inspiration in an architectural project. There is a huge amount of architectural heritage laid out for us by past builders and I believe they did a great job of integrating built environments in natural elements.”

Kandalgaonkar imagined his ‘Dragon House’ to be located on the edge of a cliff, with breathtaking views of a perfectly turquoise waterbody. It will remind you of a lethal, scaly dragon lounging on the ocean, basking in the sun, planning its next hunt! Although it does seem a little impractical and difficult to construct with concrete, I would certainly love for this design to see the light of day.

Inspired by his travels through China, Kandalgaonkar created a traditional pagoda with his own modern twist. He envisioned it being built from concrete! He said, “While the entire world was swept by the modernist movement, China was largely untouched by modernism. So when I visited various ancient Chinese monuments, I couldn’t help wonder how a modernist mind would interpret traditional Chinese architecture.” Rooftop gardens, open concrete slabs, and imposing concrete columns characterize this unusual but intriguing modernist pagoda.

Built on an imposing cliff, this house looks exactly like a massive stingray! Kandalgaonkar employed brutalist design techniques to create this concrete architectural wonder, equipped with a gorgeous infinity pool and floor-to-ceiling glass windows. I’m sure lovers of sea life would be going gaga over this one! But even if you aren’t one, you can’t help but admire this home.

Another exceptional design by Kandalgaonkar, this design titled ‘House in the Desert’ imagines a shape carved out by the strong winds that relentlessly blow across the desert landscape. The design wraps around a natural rock formation, almost preserving the texture of the original formation. Almost embracing the rock, the design plays with the juxtaposition of the old against the new and how we see a future where they both could coexist in peace

This astounding ‘Crater Home’ is a delight because it’s been designed especially for Elon Musk! Notice the little Tesla parked on the side? Kandalgaonkar recently read that Mr.Musk was selling all of his houses, so he immediately set about designing a unique home especially for him. He combined a UFO and a meteor crater, designing a spacious home with a tempting little pool as well!

What started off as a ‘Tube House’ ended up as this intertwining concrete monster! Huge tubes entangle into one another like a bunch of snakes, rearing their heads into the sky! As imposing and unusual as it seems, I do wonder what this structure would serve as? Would anyone consider making this their next home? Maybe count me out though…

Partially inspired by the ruins of St. Mary’s Abbey in York, Kandalgaonmark designed this house inside the ruins of a church! The beautiful arches serve as a base for the ground floor as well as the upper storeys of the home. Concrete slabs (that almost remind me of glamping trailers) function as the first and second storey of the home, with the rustic ruins of a church giving it an almost Medieval allure!

Inspired by the work of Gaudi, Kandalgaonkar designed the ‘Inner Sanctum’. The bone-like concrete pillars give the entire structure a very Gothic impression, with beautiful marble statues placed between the arches. According to me, this structure surely deserves a spot in Barcelona!

‘The Rock House 3’ is an entangled concrete structure placed deftly upon desert rocks. Supported by pilotis, the house seems like a natural extension of the desert landscape, rising subtly above the rocks, creating a home inspired by the network of roadways in Shanghai.
