The latest from Lake + Wells is the Riveli Shelving system. It’s a beautiful shelving system that has just been updated. The modern version now comes in solid machined aluminum. The system is modular, which means you can arrange the shelves depending on the look you want and your needs.

Husband and wife Mark Kinsley and Tamera Leigh Staten know design. The Riveli is a work of art that offers limitless configurations. The shelves can be attached to the walls in any way you want. You can flip it against the wall for a clutter-free look when you don’t need to shelf. You will only need to flip down a piece when you need to use a shelf.

The shelving system is streamlined and minimalist. You can design your own system depending on the size of the wall or the room’s look. With the system’s modularity, you can achieve a different look every time. You are free to rearrange the shelves however you like.

The Riveli Shelving System has several versions so you have a lot of choices. There is the Riveli Luxe Series that includes 3×3 (9), 2×7 (14), 2×8 (16), 6×3(18), or 2×3(6) shelves. The Riveli Art Series has a total of 16 (4×4), but you can also get it in 4×5 (20),4×6 (24), or 4×5 (20).

A module system like the Riveli means you can decide on your own design. Simply choose the series and the number of shelves you will need. Next, decide on where you want to place the shelving system. It could be in your living room, bedroom, study room, or maybe just your foyer.

Shelves don’t have to be boring, and Riveli is proof. It offers something new everything you flip down a shelf and place anything on it. We have seen similar systems before like that IVY Modular Shelving System from a decade ago. Fläpps is a modular shelving system without rules. Looking very similar is the Kurio modular shelving solution. Recently, there is the Listón modular shelving unit.

This sustainable shelving unit is held together by a system of cable ties

Listón is a modular shelving unit that uses a system of cable ties and wooden slats to form an endlessly re-configurable and sustainable furniture piece.

Downsizing never looked better. As we continue to declutter our home spaces and replace bulky appliances with multifunctional, modular furniture pieces, designers are getting creative with ways to get us there. Much of the inspiration behind the recent trend toward downsizing is credited to environmental reasons.

With this in mind, many designers are approaching new furniture and appliance designs with sustainability being the driving force. Adding his design to the mix, architect, and designer Guille Cameron Mac Lean developed Listón, a new type of furniture system that uses cable ties and wooden slats to configure modular storage units.

The cable tie system allows users to create infinite configurations of varying sizes and shapes for essentialist shelving units that will look good in any room. Replacing hardware and tools, the cable ties systems provide secure fastening for each module that comes with Listón.

The system of cable ties and wooden slats also significantly reduces the amount of packing goods needed to ship the furniture system by 18 times in comparison to other flatpack furniture. In designing Listón, Mac Lean hoped to grant users autonomy over the look, size, and configuration of home furniture pieces.

Endlessly adaptable and changeable, Listón differs from conventional furniture pieces in that when one segment breaks, the rest of the unit won’t have to be replaced. If wooden slates chip or if cable ties break, users can simply discard the broken segments and replace them with new wooden slates or cable ties. The wooden slates come in two lengths, one longer piece and a shorter one. When put together, the wooden slates form cubic shelving units that measure 40 x 40 x 40 cm.

This coatrack turned shelf brings a modern, quirky spin to your entryway storage!

Every entryway should have some form of storage bin where you can throw your keys, your jacket, and all the stuff in your pockets collected during the day. It comes in handy when you’re running late and don’t have the time to spend looking for where you last tossed your keys. Student designers Calvin and Bence recently created their own interpretation of entryway storage with Bügal, a piece of fusion furniture that’s one half coat rack and one half shelf system.

When conceptualizing Bügal, the student designers relied on 3D printing to establish a mold for the unit’s body before grinding, smoothing, and painting it over to achieve its finished, semi-matte, silicone-style look. The hybrid unit of furniture hangs from a wooden peg in a similar fashion to the traditional clothes hanger, but it ditches the hook grip for a more secure peg and socket. Calvin and Bence designed Bügal for the sake of combining the dual functions from a coat rack and a shelving unit, to provide a unique storage system that could fit into any entryway, office space, or bedroom.

Thanks to its familiar shape and uncomplicated design, Bügal looks at home in any space. The combination of a wider frame with a sturdier gripping method allows Bügal to hang more than one piece of clothing and to store even bulkier portable items like film cameras and potted plants. Bügal’s shape is akin to that of a regular clothes hanger, but its deep pocket creates space for everyday carry items like keys, wallets, and smartphones. By merging the practical function of a coat rack with all the storage space provided by a drawer or shelf, Bügal can store a lot of your things and also help cut down the time spent turning your living room inside out to find your keys.

With a deep shelf and wide-body, Bügal can hang heavier coats and store even your bulkier items.

Thanks to its shelving feature, Bügal can function as a display unit for things like potted plants and art decor.

Bügal’s initial prototype was formed from styrofoam and then given a mold through 3D printing.

Through post-processing work, Bügal was sanded, carved, and painted over to give it a glossy, yet matte look.

With a wooden frame, Bügal is both durable and handy.

Bügal ditches the tradition hook grip used by most clothes hangers for a more secure peg and socket hanging method.

The Conch by Wei He comes with a molded-plywood inner body and a dual-density foam outer body, giving it structure as well as supple softness. However, what caught our eye is the storage unit that is right under you for everything from books to a cushion to other bric-a-brac!

Onda by Schneid Studio is a modular shelving unit featuring curved lines and soft contours. It is delicate and subtle, suitable for all the lovely ladies and their precious belongings!

The Creative Chair Storage by FLORES Taller de Arquitectura doubles up as, well, a storage system as well as a chair to sit upon! Its quirky geometric structure makes it pretty amusing to have around. I would love to fold and unfold this design…just for fun!

VG Studio’s Band Rail looks like a typical wooden handrail accompanying an ordinary staircase at first glance, providing you with support as you amass your expansive home. However look a little deeper, and you realize it functions as a bookcase as well! Wooden ‘gills’ mimicking the gills of a fish adorn the entire length of the handrail. The gills provide little nooks and crannies to subtly store your books. It’s a staircase with a storage unit for books!

This bunk bed by Amber Lewis doubles up as the perfect storage unit! With shelves for your books, plants, and other miscellaneous items, as well as under bed drawers, it’s the ideal multifunctional design.

Designed by the Mint Tiny House Company, this super cool staircase also doubles up as a storage unit! Each individual step functions as some form of storage area. The staircase smoothly integrates with the kitchen, forming kitchen cabinets and a spot for a mini-fridge!
