Ceton InfiniTV CableCARD tuners add six tuner, Ethernet options

Ceton InfiniTV CableCARD tuners add six tuner, Ethernet options

Almost three years after Ceton's InfiniTV 4 CableCARD tuner hit the market as an easy and affordable way to watch premium HD cable TV on Windows Media Center, the company is finally rolling out a new variant. We've seen price drops, a USB version and a few alternatives from competitors since the 4 launched but a few options were still missing. That included the original six tuner prototype touted at its CES debut and an Ethernet jack for sharing with multiple PCs, but both check boxes have been filled today by the new InfiniTV 6 ETH. It looks a lot like the USB version of the InfiniTV 4, but with an added Ethernet port (the USB port pictured after the break is for a Tuning adapter, not to connect to a PC) and the ability to record six shows at once. It's available today for $299 from popular online retailers while a six tuner PCIe version is due in June for the same price. Check after the break for a press release with all of the details, plus a quick unboxing and set-up video.

TiVo shows off Pace-built XG1 six-tuner gateway DVR it plans to ship later this year

New add-on boxes that extend and supplement the functionality of existing Premiere DVRs aren't all TiVo had to show off this week at the Cable Show in Boston, as it also demonstrated the fruits of its new partnership with Pace. The result is this XG1 gateway, a six-tuner DVR that's intended to be sold by TV providers and then hidden away in a closet, quietly distributing video to smart TVs or extenders located throughout the house. It runs TiVo's software with support for multi-room video, MoCA, mobile and tablet remote apps and at least 500GB of hard drive space inside. Since it hasn't announced any plans to bring this unit to retail we'll have to wait and see which providers decide to offer it when it becomes available in the Americas "later this year".

Do you fancy a HTPC gussied-up as a DVR? Well, you're in luck, because Ryan Whiteman's just built one: the Delta DVR. Powered by an AMD system-on-chip, it runs Windows and Media Center for embedded devices, recording up to six HD channels at once on its 3TB HDD. It can also stream PC game titles from the Happy Cloud and run Android apps, controllable with any gamepad that'll plug into one of the four front-mounted USB ports. It'll also act as a DLNA node pulling stored photos, music and movies from your home network over 802.11n WiFi. It'll be unveiled tomorrow at the DEMO trade-show and we've pinged the company to find out when we can expect news on a release date or price.
