This portable ‘smart’ spray bottle can turn regular water into sanitizer!

Relying on a process that turns regular tap water into Electrolysed (EO) water, the IOON spray gives you an instant, effective, non-toxic sanitizer that you can spray on everything from your hands to door-handles, and from elevator buttons to cutlery (and even food!)

When electrolyzed or ionized, water breaks down into a solution of hypochlorous acid and sodium hydroxide, which acts as a remarkable detergent and disinfectant, instantly killing bacteria, cleansing off harmful chemicals from food, purifying the air, as well as busting odors. The technology, which has existed for over 4 decades, creates an all-purpose cleaning solution that replaces the need for carpet-cleaners, floor-cleaners, room-fresheners, car-fresheners, fruit and vegetable purifiers, and general disinfectants. Needless to say, the electrolyzed water is food-safe, child-safe, and eliminates the need to clean your house with chemicals that aren’t healthy… and the IOON, a small, portable spraying device, can electrolyze and spray the water directly from within its hand-held, wireless form factor.

The IOON comes with a small, replaceable silver-ion cartridge that aids in the electrolysis/ionization process. The cartridge lasts anywhere from 9-12 months depending on how often you use it, and it forms the only replaceable part of the entire design. The rest of the IOON sanitizer is for keeps, lasting you years while a small sanitizer bottle could just do the job for months before being thrown away. Using the IOON is simple… just fill it up with any kind of water and ensure that the IOON device is charged (using the MicroUSB charging port below). Once charged, the IOON takes about 20 minutes to ionize the water, making it potent enough to last up to 3 full days. Once ionized, the water is just as good as, if not more effective than your isopropyl-alcohol sanitizer… except it’s also safe on the skin, non-toxic, food-grade, can replace a bunch of other household disinfectants, and can even eliminate odor by dismantling odor molecules. When it’s done, the tiny bottle slips right into your pocket or bag, letting you carry it anywhere and sanitize anything!

Portable sanitizer bottle comes with a UV chamber to store/disinfect your face mask

Designed to cover the important bases, the SaniCase holds/disinfects your face mask, and even dispenses hand-sanitizer, all in a product that’s roughly the size of a roll of quarters.

Milan-based Salvo Lo Cascio designed the SaniCase as a response to a common problem he saw with people who wore masks. During brief intervals when they took their mask off to eat or drink, they’d often end up putting their masks on tables, armrests, or back in their pockets along with their phone and keys. Designed to give people a place to safely store their masks when not in use, the SaniCase comes with a cylindrical compartment lined with UV-C lights on the inside. When you don’t need the mask, just slip it into its protective casing and it’ll get sanitized too. Speaking of which, the base of the SaniCase even has a push-to-deploy hand-sanitizer bottle on it, allowing you to periodically clean your hands too. By helping disinfect your hands as well as your face-mask, the SaniCase covers all the critical areas to prevent germs from accidentally entering your system. Besides, its portable avatar and optional lanyard make it really easy to carry around with you!

Salvo Lo Cascio developed the SaniCase as a concept to address a common problem, but the designer is now working with vendors, producers, and partners to help bring his idea to life!

These Spray-on Touchscreens Work on 3D Surfaces

From our smartphones to our laptops to our cars to our kitchen appliances, touchscreens have turned up just about everywhere. But touchscreens are generally limited to flat, squared-off surfaces. Now, a team of engineers at the UK’s University of Bristol are demonstrating a technology that could enable touch-based interfaces on all kinds of surfaces.

The technique, known as “ProtoSpray” allows for the creation of illuminated surfaces and touch sensors on three-dimensional shapes. The method uses a combination of multi-material 3D printing and a spray-on coating to add lighting and touch-sensitive interfaces to all kinds of shapes. By embedding electrodes into the 3D printed object, then spraying on an electroluminescent material, ProtoSprayed objects can both light up, and sense touch inputs. The electrodes are designed to both power the electroluminescence, and act as capacitive input sensors.

There’s more information about the process available in the team’s paper, which can be found here. If you’re interested in experimenting with ProtoSpray objects for yourself, they’ve also posted an Instructables project, which focuses primarily on the devices’ electroluminescent properties, rather than touch sensitivity.

Bubbly Blaster Turns Champagne Bottles into Squirt Guns

Wanna keep the champagne flowing at your party, but want to up the fun factor? Check out the Bubbly Blaster. It’s a metal spray head attachment made for champagne bottles that turns them into squirt guns. Oh yeah. This is going to be a good time. Once the party is over you’ll have the added benefit of a costly renovation thanks to all of the damage caused by sticky champagne all over everything, so maybe move the party outside before you bust out this blaster.

This gadget attaches to your bottle and it can shoot as far as 30-feet. It also doubles as a stopper. It will cost you $100, or you could just hold your thumb over the bottle like a normal person who doesn’t like to throw money away. That’s up to you. Actually, I would suggest a Super Soaker if you really must waste your champagne.

This is just further proof that rich people don’t have enough things to occupy their time. When you have nothing better to do than shoot champagne at each other… Well, actually that’s a pretty good life. You know, you guys could always load up a cannon and shoot some expensive stuff our way. Just an idea. Maybe some gold.

LiquidOff Spray Repels Water, Minus the Haze

LiquidOff

Klutzes, rejoice! If you spill stuff a lot or walk around carelessly into puddles of mud, then you might want to get a bottle or two of LiquidOff. As the name suggests, it’s a hydrophobic spray that you can use to coat your shirt, pants, and shoes with a waterproof layer, so your stuff remains free from stains.

This isn’t the first waterproofing spray to hit the market, but it’s one of the few that are water-based. Creator Harold Stewart got the inspiration for LiquidOff after babysitting his sibling’s kids and noticing what a mess kids can make Harold explains: “Trying to learn as much about the technology and its intrinsic properties, as well as learning how certain chemical agents bond to create a desired effect, was a process.”

He adds: “It was imperative for us to stay away from the use of aerosols (those are toxic and completely harmful for the environment), which just happens to be what everyone in this industry uses.”

LiquidOff is currently up for funding on Kickstarter, where a minimum pledge of $55 will get you one 375ml-sized bottle.
