Tired of tea-bags? This kitchen gadget prepares Luxury Full-Leaf Tea in just 90 seconds

Ninety seconds… more like nine-tea seconds!

As a tea-lover, I’ve always felt like coffee always got the spotlight. There’s no ‘tea equivalent’ of Starbucks, the alternative to instant coffee is the tea bag, which tastes terrible… and even Keurig and Nespresso haven’t figured out how to automate the tea-brewing process to perfection. However, the Affinitea Brewing System hopes to at least fill that one void. Designed as an elegant tabletop device, the Affinitea Brewing System expertly makes you a fresh cup of luxury loose-leaf tea in just 90 seconds. The Clearview re-usable chamber takes care of every aspect from agitating, pressurizing, and steeping the tea brew, before straining and dispensing it directly into your cup. The patented chamber uses pressure + agitation to handle the steeping cycle perfectly, creating a brew that has fewer tannins (the chemical that creates that bitter aftertaste) while extracting the maximum flavor.

Full-leaf Tea – The larger the leaf, the higher quality of the tea. The Affinitea is specifically designed to steep high-quality full-leaf tea in seconds.

The Affinitea is a clever tabletop appliance not too different from a Nespresso or Keurig… however, it’s designed to brew top-notch tea with remarkable consistency in just under 90 seconds. A water chamber on the left holds 2 liters of fresh water to be used by the Affinitea, and the simple control panel on the right lets you select the temperature, strength, and cup size to give you a consistent-tasting brew every single time. An LCD screen right above the control panel lets you view and confirm your choices, and once you load the leaves into the Affinitea and tell it to begin brewing, the machine lets you watch the entire process unfold right in front of your eyes thanks to its clearview brewing chamber that lets you see the magic!

Step 1 – Open the portion pack and pour the contents into the Clear-View Re-useable Infusion Brewing Chamber.

Step 2 – Select your consistency settings and start the brewing.

Step 3 – Enjoy your gourmet cup of hot or iced RTD beverages.

What the Affinitea really gets right (in order to deliver its luxurious-tasting end-product) is the fact that it uses full-leaf tea instead of the kind of tea you’d find in tea bags. Longer leaves help retain more flavor and nuance, unlike the tiny granules or tea-leaf dust that’s found in tea-bags. The Affinitea Brewing System comes with its own subscription service, letting you choose from a whole ‘variet-ea’ of different tea and herb blends. The subscription entitles you to 50 individual pre-measured portion packs of exotic tea blends in 4 different varieties every month, with new seasonal blends and recipes to match. You can choose to hot-brew or cold-brew your teas, and Affinitea even lets you use your own tea-leaves or tea-bags to make your own brews – although their full-leaf tea blends come highly recommended from tea aficionados and experts! The Affinitea Brewing System starts at $179 for Kickstarter backers, and pairs with a 3-month subscription to its exotic luxury tea program. Continue with the subscription for only $20 per month and enjoy this exotic luxury tea program at only $0.40 per cup. Now that is a vacation in a cup!

ChaiBot is the world’s first automated tea-brewing machine that perfectly makes tea, chai, and even matcha

It’s the world’s most consumed beverage after water, yet there’s no device that automates the process of making tea… until now. Designed to be practically the Nespresso of tea, ChaiBot brings the expertise of tech to the old art of brewing tea. The tabletop device works with virtually every conceivable type of tea, making liquor tea, milk-based chai, or even the rich, decadent matcha. All you do is add the tea to the ChaiBot and tell it to begin brewing. Based on the kind of tea you’ve got, ChaiBot chooses the brewing temperature and time to expertly extract the right flavors and antioxidants (extracting a remarkable 99.8% of the tea molecules). The brewed tea is then dispensed into a kettle, which keeps your tea warm for hours, so you’re never left with an insipid room-temperature beverage!

The remarkable beauty of ChaiBot is the fact that it takes the time and effort out of tea-brewing, just the way a coffee machine does for coffee. Quite like making coffee, tea requires a fair bit of expertise too – different tea types have different brewing temperatures and times. Get this wrong and you either over or underbrew your tea, making it bitter or flavorless. The ChaiBot doesn’t have such obstacles. It comes with its own database that helps it understand exactly how to brew every kind of tea. Just add your tea to the ChaiBot’s brewing chamber and let it know what it’s working with, and the machine automatically takes control. Unlike Nespresso machines, however, ChaiBot doesn’t force you to use any particular type of tea. You could use your own loose-leaf tea (with aromats like ginger or cinnamon), matcha powder, tea bags, or even ChaiBot’s own tea-disks to make your favorite cup (or cups) of brew, and even customize brew times and temperatures and then save your favorite recipes for later.

Get 30% more antioxidants.

4x faster than a kettle.

Versatility and consistency are the names of the game, honestly. Whether you want black tea, green tea, milk-based chai, or even matcha, ChaiBot will expertly create the perfect brew each time, giving you 30% more antioxidants than when you brew it manually (more antioxidants help your body naturally fight off ailments like diabetes, heart disease, and even cancer). It uses the exact right amount of water (taken from the ChaiBot’s refillable water chamber), heats it to the correct temperature (4x faster than a kettle because heating and brewing both happen in the same chamber), and lets your tea-leaves steep in it for just the right amount of time.

The ChaiBot comes with a perforated brewing chamber that contains your leaves, bags, or disks, so that the tea gets strained while brewing. This also makes clean-up incredibly easy. A touchscreen interface on the right-hand side of the ChaiBot lets you access the tea-machine’s vast library of brews, letting you choose a preset or even design your own. Given that we live in 2022, the ChaiBot also has its own smartphone app that lets you remotely brew your tea. Now isn’t that tea-rrific?!

Tea Mode

Chai Mode

Matcha Mode

Once brewed to perfection, the ChaiBot dispenses your brew into a pouring jug that lets you then serve the tea in cups for yourself, your family, or guests, making as many as 6 cups at a time. Standard black and green teas get dispensed directly into the jug, and for milk-based chai or matcha tea, all you need to do is add milk to the jug in advance and the tea will mix right into it. The pouring jug isn’t just a handy little vessel to collect your tea – it keeps your tea hot for you too, for up to 2 hours without altering its taste or composition. This means you can get second or third rounds of tea without having to brew a fresh cup all over again while you’ve got intense tea-demanding work going on!

Cleans itself so you don’t have to.

Cleaning up after the ChaiBot is simpler than usual too. The tea leaves/bags/disks sit in a perforated metal cylinder that can easily be emptied and rinsed once your tea’s brewed and dispensed. For the rest of the ChaiBot, it has its own cleaning cycle so you don’t have to scrub any pots or pans. Just add liquid soap to the brewing chamber and select the cleaning cycle and the ChaiBot does it all for you. The jug at the bottom, on the other hand, can be washed in the sink or placed in a dishwasher.

The ChaiBot starts at a surprisingly reasonable price of $175 and comes in 3 body colors – black, white, and matcha green. You can use tea leaves or bags of your own choice, or opt for ChaiBot’s specially curated tea disks that cover a whole variety of flavors including popular classics like Earl Grey, Lemon Green, and Chamomile Mint, to exotic blends like Masala Chai and Ginger Cardamom. Go ahead and grab a ChaiBot using the link below and make your life and mornings beau-tea-ful again!

Sleek tea makers to brew that perfect cuppa every morning

There are some people who need a cup of coffee to start their day, or they simply refuse to start their day (I’m one of them). And then there are those who need a cup of tea to begin their day. There’s something about sipping a cup of tea in the morning that puts me in a really zen and calm mood. Though I may not be a tea drinker, I know that brewing your own tea, is almost like an art. It takes practice and patience. If you’re a tea drinker who’s always looking for new and innovative ways to prepare your morning cup of tea – we’ve curated a collection of unique, tasteful, and highly functional tea makers for you. From a smart tea maker to a travel tea flask with a built-in tea infuser – this collection of kitchen appliances is all you need to prepare and perfect your cup of tea!

1. The TEO Smart Tea Maker

The TEO Smart Tea Maker has a sleek, monochromatic design that has a coffeemaker feel but tries to bring attention to the tea extract itself by making that part transparent. It is made up of three main parts: the water tank which looks like your average industrial-looking teapot; the brewing section where you’re supposed to put the tea leaves and where the magic happens; and the transparent glass container where the brewed tea is poured into. There’s actually a 4th component, the base which looks like an induction stove but with fewer confusing buttons.

2. Chá

Chá is a travel tea bottle that can switch between a tea infuser and a regular thermal water bottle. Topped with a transparent lid, Chá allows each user to witness the seeping process while brewing tea to ensure their desired tea strength is achieved. With a handy rubber strap, users can even brew their tea with the bottle strapped to their backpack. The brewing process of Chá is just like filling a water bottle, but the lid of Chá features a compartment where users can place tea bags near a built-in infuser and transparent section that reveals the strength of each brew.

3. OTOTO‘s Tea Trap

OTOTO‘s Tea Trap puts a fun spin on the art of brewing tea. Unlike those boring metal infusers, the Tea Trap models itself on a carnivorous plant that chomps down on your tea leaves. Once the Tea Trap’s stomach (or mouth) is full, just dunk it in a cup of hot water, and the tea begins infusing through the perforations on the sides of the infuser. Use the Tea Trap’s elongated handle to stir it around till your tea reaches the right color, and when you’re done, the Tea Trap will very kindly spit out the tea leaves into the waste-bin, because nobody likes eating tea leaves… not even carnivorous plants!

4. The BRÜ Instant Tea Brewing Machine

The BRÜ Instant Tea Brewing Machine prepares that perfect cup of tea for you every single time! You simply add your tea to the machine and press a button to being the brewing process. The machine works with both tea leaves and tea bags. In fact, you don’t need any capsules or pods with this instant machine! You can control the settings, by selecting how long you want your tea to be brewed, as well as what temperature you would like it to be brewed. There’s even an option to pick the cup size, allowing you to prepare the perfect amount of tea. No wastage here!

5. The Skagerak Edge Terracotta Teapot

Inspired by ancient Greek and Egyptian craftsmanship, the Skagerak Edge Terracotta Teapot is a beautiful rustic product that helps you experience a real tea-brewing experience. Created primarily from terracotta, the teapot is matte from the outside and glazed from the inside. The glazed interior makes it quite easy to wash! The teapot also features a curved handle built from teak, which is also extremely easy to hold and handle. Two brass pins on the handle and a little brass topper on the lid handle add a stunning metallic contrast to the otherwise raw and organic-looking product.

6. The Inclusivitea kettle

The Inclusivitea kettle highlights the two biggest problem areas when it comes to using a kettle – the filling and the pouring. The redesigned kettle comes with two handlebar-shaped arms that let you easily carry it to fill it up with water. Dock it in the stand and plug the kettle into a power outlet and it begins brewing your tea. Once your tea’s ready, simply put the cup in its dedicated zone right under the kettle and press the main button that both filters the tea and dispenses it right into the cup. The dispensing stops once you release the button, completely eliminating any chances of over-filling your cup and/or spilling tea all over the place.

7. The Blue Project

Andersson and Fransson created The Blue Project, featuring an electric tea kettle that provides users with feedback to help promote sustainable use. To keep users from overfilling their kettles, The Blue Project’s electric kettle features a water controller that forces its user to settle on a predetermined measure of water before filling the kettle up with water. In addition to the water controller, Andersson’s and Fransson’s tea kettle comes equipped with a temperature regulator that increases in resistance as the kettle’s user increases its temperature, providing a tangible source of feedback to show the increase in resources needed for higher temperatures.

8. The Cat Loose Leaf Tea Mug & Infuser

The Cat Loose Leaf Tea Mug & Infuser is the perfect little product for all the cat + tea lovers out there! The cat-shaped mug features a built-in infuser. The little infuser is shaped like a fish, and can perfectly hold your loose tea leaf. The handle of the mug has been shaped after a cat’s tail! The mug is also transparent from the center, so you can keep an eye on how your tea is being steeped. The kitty-inspired mug/infuser is purrfect for adding a fun twist to your afternoon cuppa!

9. Hu-Kou

Comprised of a carrying case, tea bowl, and three teacups, Hu-Kou comes with everything you might need for an excellent cup of tea. Specifically molded to feel ergonomic by design, Hu-Kou’s tea bowl is shaped like a triangle with a built-in spout that allows users to pour tea directly from the bowl without having to remove the lid beforehand. Fit within a silicone carrying case, Hu-Kou’s stylish case comes with a shoulder strap so it’s even easier to bring tea on the go. The carrying case keeps enough space to fit the main tea bowl in addition to three teacups.

10. ECLIPSE

Meet the ECLIPSE, a portable tea brewing station that isn’t as limiting or as archaic as the teabag. It combines a travel thermos and a french-press-style brewing system in one easy-to-use, easy-to-carry design, and lets you brew two cups (or one large mug) of the tea of your choice. The inner layer of the ECLIPSE is lined with a ceramic coating to honor the traditional practice of brewing in ceramic teapots (while also ensuring that the tea doesn’t get a metallic or plastic taste) and gives you authority over how strong or mild you want your tea to be by letting you control brew-times.

This DADO minimalist tea machine may give you peace and calm in a cup

I recently bought a coffee capsule machine and it’s been a pretty neat addition to my home coffee shop set up. I wouldn’t mind having a tea version of this since there are times when I’m too lazy to brew my own tea and tea bags have no appeal for me. I still am a coffee girl at heart but I’ve been adding aa cup of tea (or two) to my daily routine so a tea capsule machine will be pretty handy to have.

Designer: Hyeongkwon Lee

This minimalist-looking capsule tea machine is a concept design that can maybe someday fulfill my wish. It’s named DADO which is a term in East Asia that refers to making and drinking tea formally. The device doesn’t look like what you would use in a typical tea ceremony but the designer created something inspired by it but with a modern twist. The kettle part is inspired by what is used in traditional tea making and the minimalist design aims to bring a sense of calm and peace, things usually associated with drinking this caffeinated beverage.

If you’ve used a coffee capsule machine then this follows pretty much the same procedure. There is a kettle and two cups placed on top of a “heating pad” that looks like an induction stovetop or a wireless charger. You need to fill the kettle with water in the bucket part located at the back. Then you have to preheat the cup or cups that are beside the kettle and all you have to do is press a button. In the traditional DADO, cups are pre-heated as well as part of the ceremony so that’s a pretty nice touch to add to this modern concept.

After both the water and the cups are hot enough, it’s time to place the tea capsule at the top of the kettle and press the extraction button. Once the three LED lights are blinking simultaneously, this means that the magic is happening and once it’s done, you can start drinking your tea and experience the peace and calm that you’re looking for in a cup. There are probably different flavors for the tea capsules, just like with the coffee ones.

One thing that might give people pause about actually getting something like this is the carbon footprint that these disposable capsules bring. The coffee capsule machine I got had re-usable pods so that lessens the contribution to trash. Hopefully, this is something that the designer will consider if the DADO ever gets made into an actual capsule tea machine.

This travel tea flask comes with a built-in infuser to give you the best brew without messy tea bags!

Inspired and derived from Chinese tea culture, Chá is a travel tea flask that brings the ritual of brewing tea at home back into making tea on the go.

Making your first cup of tea in the morning feels like a ritual. Like clockwork, the water boils, the flavor of tea leaves seep into your cup, and the tea is ready to be enjoyed while you curl up next to a window and read. Having tea on the go is a little different. When we make tea in stainless steel, thermal bottles, we can’t see how strong we’re making it and our tea-making rituals are always cut short. Chá is a travel tea flask that ties the ritual back into making tea on the go, born from a collaboration between Chinese EV maker Nio and UAL’s Central Saint Martins.

The built-in infuser opens with a turn of the bottle’s lid, then the user can turn Chá upside down and watch as their water darkens with tea. If users want to only drink water, then the infuser can be just as easily closed and Chá can be filled with fresh water to be used as a regular water bottle. Ergonomic and inviting by design, Chá combines style with the traditional ritual of tea making.

Explaining the brewing process, the designers behind Chá describe, “Twisting the two halves of the opaque lid against one another to form an ‘O’ or a horizontal ‘S’, opens or closes the infuser respectively. An open infuser allows the contents of its flask to infuse with each other. Enabling the infuser and flipping the flask upside down exposes the water to the tea leaves for infusion while the user can monitor for their desired thickness of the tea through the transparent lid.”

Designers: ual x Nio

By twisting the lid’s two halves, users activate the infuser.

Silicone elements provide some grip for Chá’s bottle.

A handy strap allows users to hold Chá in a variety of ways, like strapping it to a backpack.

Following several ideations, the final form of Chá envisions a subdued, yet bright blush pink stainless steel bottle with silicone elements and a transparent upper lid.

Bring and make tea on the go with Chá.

A Keurig for tea

I’ll refrain from referring to the Gourmia Tea Square as a Tea-urig, but that’s what it is. It’s the tea-drinker’s go to for instant tea pleasure. Designed to brew loose-leaf tea, the Tea Square takes those godawful tea-bags and shows them the door (because the only thing that should be in bags are your groceries, says Chef Daniel Green). The Tea Square stores your water and tea leaves in separate compartments and with just a few button pushes, puts together the perfect cup of tea for you. Taking care of everything from water temperature, to steeping time, to even pouring the tea into the carafe only when it knows the carafe has been docked, the Tea Square automates process that’s known for being quite human-centric.

With the ability (abili-tea?) to brew all sorts of tea variants (and even coffee), the Tea Square is compact and takes the hassle out of brewing because sometimes all you want is to have a cup of tea in your hands without having to make it!

Easy Tea-sy

sphere_001

It’s one thing to steep a personal cup of tea to perfection and something entirely different to get an entire pot just right. The Sphere tea maker aims to make things easier with an all-in-one countertop unit that can actually brew two different types at the same time.

The design utilizes vapor to brew the tea, boiling and distributes vapor/water at exactly the right time and temperature the user requires. Each piece is washing machine safe, making cleanup just as easy as brewing. For individual users it might be a bit much but for larger households, it’s a stellar solution for round-the-clock tea!
