Molten Metal Squirt Gun Is The Death Star of Super Soakers

When the Super Soaker was first released in 1990, parents were freaked out that kids would fill the toy with harmful chemicals like bleach. But they never saw this coming – a squirt gun that blasts molten liquid metal.

Thanks to Kevin Kohler—aka The Backyard Scientist, this now exists. It’s both frightening and awesome. He used pewter, a malleable metal with a low melting point, to fill the custom-built squirt gun. Those lower temperatures mean that things are a little safer, but it’s still around 400º when it comes out of that nozzle, so it’s still crazy dangerous.

Watch this thing slice through a pewter pitcher like a laser in the video below:

Kevin also shows off some of the other liquids the squirt gun can fire, like ketchup, mustard, and butane – on fire. This thing is a weapon that an evil super-genius would use.

Bart Simpson’s Megaphone Prank Recreated IRL

Remember that episode of The Simpsons where Bart finds all of those megaphones and breaks all of the windows in Springfield? Well, Kevin Kohler, better known as The Backyard Scientist has recreated the prank. Will it explode all of Homer’s beers in the fridge? Again?

Kevin lined up all 10 megaphones and screamed through them, just like Bart Simpson did in the episode. But did he recreate Bart’s shock wave throughout the city of Springfield? I won’t spoil it for you, but probably not. And nearby beers were safe.

He does create a feedback loop that was crazy loud though, and applies some science to figure out if speaking through 10 megaphones is any louder than speaking through a single megaphone. Now that he’s got all of these megaphones, I’d love to see some more experiments that use them.

Watch a 1,000° Red Hot Rocket Knife Slice Through Stuff

Remember when The Backyard Scientist Kevin Kohler sliced through stuff with his rocket knife? Good times. Cool as that was, he knew he could do better, so he has now launched a 1,000° red hot rocket knife at a bunch of stuff just to see what would happen.

He slices a bottle of Coke, cans of Silly String, bread, and a row of lighters, packed with explosive butane. Needless to say, all of them are effortlessly sliced in half. At 1000º and 150 mph, there’s not much that can stop this knife. It even slices wood cleanly.

This is definitely a fun and dangerous rig. Don’t try this one at home, kids.

The Backyard Scientist Makes a Flaming Sword

Kevin Kohler aka “The Backyard Scientist” does all kinds of cool and questionable stuff in his backyard. Well, now he has made a cool, or should I say hot, flaming sword.

Kohler filmed himself building a sword that’s literally on fire. Basically, he cast a toy foam sword in aluminum, drilled holes in it, polished it up, then went the extra mile and connected it to a propane tank, because you can never have enough propane.

Then he used his fiery sword to slice a watermelon. It get’s pretty hot in his hand though so he can’t use it for very long, but luckily it doesn’t take long to slice things. And cooling it off is as simple as dipping it in the swimming pool.
