Dread Pirate Roberts Action Figure Will Most Likely Kill Your Wallet in the Morning

Of all the flicks that I remember from growing up in the 1980s, one of the best was The Princess Bride. I’ll admit to not wanting to watch it in my youth because it sounded like a “girl movie” to my younger self. Once I watched it, it was fantastic – with giants, sword fights, and matches of wits.

Fans of The Princess Bride will love this premium action figure of Westley as The Dread Pirate Roberts. Standing 12.25″ tall, the sixth-scale figure looks just like Cary Elwes. It comes with two heads: one shows Westley’s face, the other is Westley wearing the Dread Pirate Roberts’ mask.

The figure has that bitchin’, but sort of pubey, mustache from the films and comes complete with his black pirate costume, sword, and wine goblet. It comes with seven different gloved hands, and two bare hands allow for ambidextrous sword fights. ThinkGeek will sell you one, as you wish, for $199.99.

The Princess Bride-opoly: As You Wish…

The Princess Bride is one of the most classic of the ’80s movies out there. I harbor a secret fear they will try and remake it and ruin all that was good about the original like the new Ghostbusters did. Fans of the movie will certainly want to match wits with their favorite Sicilian over a game of The Princess Bride-opoly.

The game is sort of like Monopoly, only it has a custom game board and character tokens from the film. You can play as Westley, Inigo, Buttercup, Fezzik, or Vizzini. I have dibs on Andre. I only wish the character tokens were metal like real Monopoly rather than paper.

The Community Chest and Chance cards have been changed to Twoo Wuv and Inconceivable! Rather than houses and hotels, you get cottages and castles, and the in-game money is Florin currency. Get your game at ThinkGeek for $44.99(USD).

The Princess Bride Honest Movie Trailer

I really like The Princess Bride. I can remember not wanting to watch it because it was a “girl’s movie” and now I’ve seen it a million times. The Honest Movie Trailers folks have put one together for the classic flick and it sums it up well.

Despite initial appearances, the flick combined action, comedy, drama, and romance perfectly, and also left us with many quotable quotes for decades to come. Also, I never really knew how massive Andre the Giant was until Wesley was hanging off his back.

Looking back, Buttercup really was rather mean to Wesley. That said, guys will put up with a lot for a smokin’ hottie with her own farm and a saddle so shiny she can see her face in it.

The Princess Bride Coloring Book Will Brighten Your Pit of Despair

One of my all time favorite movies is The Princess Bride. I can remember watching it for the first time and thinking at first glance that it was a “girl movie,” then loving every minute of the flick. I’ve watched it more times than I can count. If you love the movie, and like to color, your wish has come true.

Some images of an advance copy of the book have turned up on Twitter and it looks fantastic. The book comes with 70 pages to color, including Andre the Giant nursing his hung over pal back to health and other classic scenes from the film.

The coloring book will sell for $16.99(USD), and if you want one you can pre-order it on Amazon now – it’s expected to ship around December 20th, so hopefully with express shipping you can grab one as a last minute Christmas gift.

Princess Bride Coffee Cup Helps You Build Resistance to Iocane Powder

I happen to think that one of the greatest movies ever made is The Princess Bride. I’ve seen it approximately 157 times over the years. One of the most memorable scenes is where the Dread Pirate Roberts has to match wits with a Sicilian. The trick was a resistance to iocane powder, leading to the death of the criminal mastermind and Wesley heading off to save Buttercup. If you want to build up a resistance to iocane powder too, you’ll need a drinking vessel, and this is it.

This Princess Bride mug holds 12 ounces of whatever and has Buttercup and Wesley on one side and Buttercup and the Dread Pirate Roberts on the other. Mostly this cup reminds me of how hot Robin Wright was in the movie.

You can get your own cup for $9.99(USD) at ThinkGeek. As you wish.

Princess Bride LEGO Dioramas Lets You Match Wits with a Sicilian

I have a well-established penchant for the The Princess Bride and LEGO constructs. Combine the two and you have my attention. Some folks had some builders at the Brickworld Chicago event cobbled together some awesome dioramas of scenes from the classic movie.

The LEGO artists responsible for these dioramas include Max Pointer, Daniel Church, Paull Vermeesch, Ben Merrill, Casey McCoy, and Matthew Oh. One of my favorites is the diorama of the battle of wits with the Sicilian.

I also very much like the fire swamp and the epic sword fight at the top of the cliff. I only wish someone had recreated one of the scenes with Andre the Giant or a Miracle Max scene.

Be sure to check out the Beyond the Brick video above to see more and to meet the creators of these awesome LEGO builds.

Have fun stormin’ the castle!

The Princess Bride: Prepare to Die Game: Inconceivable!

I have said it before; I am a big fan of the flick The Princess Bride. If you like the movie as much as me, and are into card games, you might like this one.

The game is called The Princess Bride: Prepare to Die! The concept is simple; you have a bunch of cards that look like the “Hello my name is” stickers you might see at a company meeting. You have another stack of cards with random bad deeds that start with “You” and end with “Prepare to die!”

The idea is you that a “judge” selects a name tag, then each other player must pick a funny “Prepare to die” card. Whoever the judging player picks as the funniest selection wins the round.

What you end up with is something like, “Hello, my name is Abraham Lincoln. You drank my milkshake, prepare to die!” I’m betting you just red that in a Spanish accent. The game is available for $29.99 from ThinkGeek.

Cary Elwes to Write Behind the Scenes The Princess Bride Book

I’ve said on many occasions, one of my all time favorite movies of my youth is The Princess Bride. I’ve punched people in the past for saying it was a chick flick. The film is one of those cult classics that I’ve shared with my kids, and ended up with a chihuahua named Buttercup thanks to it. Cary Elwes is the actor that played Wesley in the film and he is now set to wire a book taking us the behind the scenes of the film.

princess bridemagnify

The book will be called As You Wish: Tales from the Princess Bride. Elwes says that he was inspired to write the book after a cast reunion in 2012 at the New York Film Festival.

In the book Elwes will talk about some of the behind the scenes memories from making the film and will conduct interviews with cast mates including Billy Crystal, Robin Wright, Carol Kane, Christopher Guest, Chris Sarandon and writer William Goldman. I’ve always wondered what it was like to work on the movie, since there is very little behind the scenes footage it should be cool to read what happened.

The book will be co-written by Joe Layden and published by Touchstone in the fall of 2014.
