Whether it’s superheroes, sci-fi, fantasy, horror or Star Wars (which always deserves it’s own category), 2017 looks like another big year, filled with exciting new films and anticipated sequels, for geeky movies.

1. Logan (March 3): Probably the final time Hugh Jackman portrays Wolverine in the third solo movie for the most famous X-man. Hopefully, this edition will be better than the previous two, and all signs, starting with the source material (Old Man Logan) and the R-Rating point towards a very good movie.

2. Kong: Skull Island (March 10): It’s been 12 years since the Peter Jackson King Kong film hit the screens, and now comes the 8th feature film on the subject. What’s different? A more gonzo action approach, and probably a bit more humor than before. Until all the fighting begins.

3. Life (March 24): Kinda like Alien (in a year that another Alien comes out), only with Ryan Reynolds and Jake Gyllenhaal.

4. Ghost in the Shell (March 31): Scarlett Johansson stars in this live-action version of the mega-popular Japanese anime, which should be filled with plenty of cyberpunk atmosphere and slow-motion action sequences. You can also buy a cool t-shirt to look extra ready in the premiere.

5. The Circle (April 28): A movie that hopes to feed into the fear we have of the control social media has on our lives, with Emma Watson as a tech-wiz finding out her boss (Tom Hanks) and the company she works for have darker motives behind their altruistic front.

6. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (May 5): Marvel’s most surprising hit over the last few years hits its second phase, which is now loaded with expectations. Fun, funny and just a bit of sweet (how adorable is tiny Groot?) and everyone will be happy.

7. Alien: Covenant (May 19): Unlike Prometheus, this movie is supposed to be closer to the original’s feel. A creepy android, and the sense that this a group of people stuck in a house (in space) with a monster going through them one by one. Plenty of face huggers and Xenomorphs too.

8. Wonder Woman (June 2): An incredibly important movie for Warner Bros. and DC as they try to keep their cinematic universe from falling apart. They don’t need a hit: They need critics to like it. Maybe more importantly, this could mean big things for female superhero movies, unless the movie doesn’t do well.

9. The Mummy (June 9): Tom Cruise joins Universal’s Monsters cinematic universe in what looks like a typical summer-flick filled with action and a bit of crossover attempts, as Russell Crowe also appears in Dr. Jekyll form.

10. Spider-Man: Homecoming (July 7): The second reboot of Marvel’s most precious character, this time the big wigs are hoping it lasts more than two films like it did with Andrew Garfield. British Tom Holland plays Peter Parker, going up against The Vulture in this edition. Aunt May keeps getting younger, with Marisa Tomei picking up the mantle.

11. War for the Planet of the Apes (July 14): The next installment in this successful and critically acclaimed reboot, as Caesar takes the next step towards making apes the dominant force on the planet. Woody Harrelson will try to stop him.

12. Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (July 21): Luc Besson’s take on a Gallic comic series, in a tail of two agents hopping between eras, friends and foes across the galaxy.

13. The Dark Tower (July 28): A long time in the making, Stephen King’s epic series is finally hitting the screens, with Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey facing off in a story of good, evil in a fantasy-western setting.

14. It (September 8): The second classic Stephen King novel adaptation of the year. There’s already a famous 80’s mini-series about Pennywise the killer clown; the movie might be even scarier.

15. Blade Runner 2049 (October 6): Denis Villeneuve can do wrong at the moment, so we’re hoping he takes the quintessential cyberpunk movie and does right by the original creation. Harrison Ford returns as Deckard, reprising yet another classic character of his. Maybe we’ll finally find out if he’s a replicant or not.

16. Thor: Ragnarok (November 3): After missing out on the mini-Avengers film under the Captain America title, Thor is back, bringing Loki along for the ride, as he battles both the Hulk and a new menace threatening to destroy Asgard.

17. Justice League (November 17): You think DC and WB are nervous about Wonder Woman? Multiply it by 100 and you’ll get how they feel about the Justice League. It’ll bring in the money, but if this movie fails to impress in quality, it’ll be another blow in the neverending multiplatform war with Marvel.
