Yoshino Power Unveils Revolutionary Portable Power Stations in Collaboration with Yves Béhar and fuseproject

In a groundbreaking partnership, Yves Béhar and fuseproject have joined forces with Yoshino Power to introduce the world’s first series of solid-state portable power stations. The collaboration between these design giants and Yoshino Power has resulted in a four-unit product offering that not only redefines the aesthetics of portable power stations but also introduces cutting-edge technology for enhanced safety and performance.

Designer: Fuse ProjectYoshino Power

Yoshino Power, recognizing the need for a departure from traditional power station designs, enlisted the expertise of fuseproject to reimagine the product from the ground up. The result is a solid-state portable power station that challenges the conventional look of toolboxes and equipment, presenting itself as a lifestyle product. The mellow-green shade, a robust metal handle that seamlessly wraps around the shell, and a shatterproof, water-resistant interface contribute to a design that is both functional and visually striking.

The design team deliberately chose matte and muted green and gray tones as primary colors, steering away from the technical, bright color palettes commonly associated with battery and power tool categories. The metal handle, in contrast to painted finishes on competitor products, emphasizes durability and premium quality, making these power stations stand out in both form and function available in 4 sizes.

Yoshino’s new solid-state portable power stations boast a 50 percent reduction in weight compared to similar products, showcasing the fusion of functionality and aesthetics. Functionality takes center stage with built-in LED lights, AC, DC, and USB outputs, providing users with a versatile charging solution for gadgets on the go. Remarkably, these power stations can recharge from 0-80% in under an hour, ensuring quick and efficient power replenishment.

The user interface of Yoshino’s solid-state portable power stations has also transformed. fuseproject crafted a unique design, incorporating inspiration from outdoor recreation and lifestyle categories. The bee and honeycomb motif, symbolizing nature, hard work, and continuous energy, adorns various elements of the product, creating a cohesive and visually appealing user experience.

Yoshino Power leaps forward in technology by employing solid electrolytes instead of flammable liquid electrolytes and conventional lithium batteries. Solid-state batteries offer significantly higher energy densities, providing more power while enhancing safety during usage, storage, and transportation. These power stations are tailor-made for various scenarios, including backyard movie nights, off-road camping adventures, remote working, and emergencies.

Equipped with up to 11 ports, depending on the model, users can charge multiple appliances, electronics, and panels simultaneously. For environmentally conscious consumers, the power stations can also be recharged using solar panels while on the road, offering an eco-friendly alternative for on-demand energy.

As Yoshino Power unveils this revolutionary product line, the bee and honeycomb logo design by Yves Béhar and fuseproject takes center stage, further reinforcing the nature-inspired concept that sets these power stations apart. The fusion of innovative design and advanced technology positions Yoshino’s solid-state portable power stations as the go-to solution for those seeking both style and substance in their power needs.

Can you 3D print wood? Yves Behar’s line of decor uses 3D printed wood that’s as good as the original

They look like wood, feel like it too. Hell, they even have those grain patterns that you associate with wood, but don’t let your eyes or fingers be fooled. This line of homeware designed by Yves Behar’s fuseproject isn’t made from actual wood.

The technology you’re looking at lies within the domain of 3D printing, but it’s much more advanced than you’d think. Developed and pioneered by Forust, a subsidiary of Desktop Metal, this 3D printed material is a unique composite of recycled sawdust and bio-epoxy resin… but here’s where it gets interesting. Forust’s printers can actually print annular rings, knots, and grains into the printed wood. These details don’t exist on a surface level either. You can sand them and run a coat of polish over them and they’d look exactly like real wood.

Forust aims at disrupting the furniture industry by creating a more sustainable alternative to cutting down trees for ‘valuable’ hardwood. Instead, their additive manufacturing techniques can replicate any wood using simply wood waste. The result looks and feels like wood, and has strength similar to wood too. It can be readily worked, fastened, and finished with conventional wood finishing methods… and I wouldn’t be surprised if, by some miracle, it smelled like wood too! Take a look at some of Forust’s samples below.

To help create realistic proofs-of-concept of their game-changing technology, Forust partnered with fuseproject. Led by Yves Behar, the design studio debuted Vine, a collection of bowls and vases that helped showcase Forust’s revolutionary printing breakthroughs. “Vine’s simple and pure forms embody the core capabilities of Forust’s printing systems in its ability to create elegant, one-of-a-kind products. The collection adds a naturalistic feel to any home and perfect for storing those easy-to-misplace items. Each can be presented on its own or layered with other pieces on a console, coffee table, or entryway table, with or without botanicals or other items”, mentioned fuseproject’s team. “Vine’s curving, organic form juxtaposes against its dense but lightweight wood and bioresin composition that exhibits the same functionality and structural durability as conventional wood.” The Vine collection is available on Forust’s online store, and you can even upload your own designs and get them fabricated in Forust’s faux wood.

Yves Behar-designed Underwater Research Station’s architecture is inspired by coral reefs

Designed to spearhead the movement of studying our oceans for newer, more effective ways to save our planet’s fragile ecosystems (and to also help better understand and predict erratic behavior of our oceans and the tide/weather patterns associated with it), the PROTEUS™ is the marine equivalent of the International Space Station. The project was created as a collaborative effort between the Fabien Cousteau Ocean Learning Center (FCOLC) and Yves Behar’s design studio fuseproject.

“At 4,000 square feet, PROTEUS™ will be three or four times the size of any previously built sub-marine habitats, accommodating up to twelve people at once”, says Yves Behar. The Proteus, designed to carry out a variety of research missions, is permanently anchored to the ocean floor, with individual pods sticking out of the main facility like the tentacles of a coral polyp or an anemone. These modular pods accommodate a variety of uses such as state-of-the-art laboratories, sleeping quarters, bathrooms, medical bays, life support systems, and storage. These pods can be easily attached or detached based on their need. The largest pod (which stays permanently affixed to the main structure) houses a moon pool, allowing submersible vessels to enter the Proteus.

Designed to be a large, permanent research facility, the Proteus will see scientists, technicians, and researchers spend weeks (or even months) in it at a time. The architecture of the facility accommodates a variety of common spaces including a living room, kitchen, dining, and work areas to help occupants spend their time comfortably. The individual pods and the main structure are even equipped with enough windows to allow sunlight to illuminate the interiors during the day too.

The world’s first 3D printed community designed by fuseproject is unveiled!

Nonprofit New Story, tech company ICON and design studio fuseproject collaborated to bring an end to global homelessness…or to at least kickstart the beginning of its end. How did they do so? They recently unveiled the world’s first 3D-printed neighborhood in Tabasco, Southern Mexico.

Yves Béhar and his studio fuseproject designed the homes by directly collaborating and working with the families they were being built for. “As we spoke to the community members, we realized that a single house design doesn’t respond to the needs and expectations,” said Béhar. “This led us to design a system that allows for different programs, climate factors, and growth for families and spaces.” The community members were included in the selection of the land and throughout the planning process, to ensure their housing requirements were met. The end result will be a lively 3D-printed neighborhood of fifty 500-square-foot, single-storey houses for the poorest communities who are always the last to benefit from innovation and technology.

ICON issued its Vulcan II printer for the purpose at hand. In 24 hours a base cement home with walls is built, with roofs, doors, and windows added later on. Vulcan II’s functionality is foolproof against rainfall, power shortages and most dilemmas in rural areas. The quaint homes consist of two bedrooms, a living room, a kitchen, and a bathroom. Textured walls, subtle colors, and slanted roofs mark the exteriors of the homes. The slanted roof provides protection against intense rainfall. And the strong base and walls will support the structure against seismic activity. Made from ICON’s Lavacrete material and concrete, the homes are guaranteed to be sturdy and strong.

A cute little patio and a sheltered front porch provide spaces for interaction between the family and community members. Béhar designed the interiors to facilitate open ventilation. Each home has been equipped with electrical and water supply, and at 400 Mexican pesos a month for seven years, with zero interest and profit mortgage, the community members have a safe haven that will extend for generations. By next year, all fifty homes should be standing tall, creating a safe space for the poorer communities, and taking us one step closer to ending global homelessness. Kudos to the efforts of New Story, ICON and fuseproject!

Add ‘architecture’ to Yves Behar’s skill-set!

yb_01_1

Having built brands like Fitbit, Jawbone, Sodastream, Hive, and having contributed to super-brands like Herman Miller, designer Yves Behar quite literally needs no introduction. Founder of Fuseproject and the designer behind a lot of the projects we revere as ‘great design’, Yves Behar’s latest venture focuses on the bigger picture. You’re looking at Livinghomes YB1, Behar’s first line of fully built prefab homes, made for Plant Prefab.

A fully-furnished prefab home is more of a systems design project, than an architecture and interior one. The YB1 house comes made from multiple 4X4 foot modules that can be customized and put together, allowing you to explore a wide range of layouts. Users can essentially choose different modules, and even the walls that cover the sides of the modules, opting from plain walls to full-size windows. The interiors are completely modular too and you can quite literally choose room-arrangements based on the layout of the flat, picking up prefabricated kitchen and bathroom details to just simply install in your house. Upon order, the home takes a few weeks for manufacturing and one day for installation with all electrical, plumbing, lighting, HVAC and appliances built in.

An Attention-Stealing Television!

cube_tv_stand_layout

Over the years the television has become more and more of a centerpiece within the room, its presence is almost a given and their often-vast size and bold design makes them hard to ignore. So why not draw more attention to it?

The Cube is designed to do just this! As opposed to the television resting on a TV stand, the base of the large TVtakes its position! The geometric and angular form contrasts the smooth curve of the television and is designed to emulate a sculpture on its pedestal. Its lightly brushed finish features a dramatic gradient that breaks up the flat façade. The top face slightly protrudes out of the cube and a light gently illuminates the gaps, emphasizing the subtle feature.

The Cube sits on a narrower base, giving the impression that the whole assembly is elevated off the ground, giving it a surreal element of interest that
completes the striking design.

Designers: Yves Behar of fuseproject & Samsung

The cube’s chrome material reflects the surface around it, with black gradient at the top to make the frame look as though it floats over and fades into the plinth.
