This Telescoping Social Distancing Zapper Is a Sign of the Times

How do you remind someone to practice social distancing? Personally I just yell. LOUD. But maybe you’re a quiet person. Maybe you just want to politely remind someone with a 4.5-volt shock to the arm from this Socially Distancing Zapper from Firebox. Hey, I can respect that.

The Socially Distancing Zapper costs $14 and is small enough to fit in your pocket, but telescopes long enough so that, combined with the length of your arm provided you aren’t a T-rex that has somehow managed to travel to the future, should maintain a six-foot social distance from someone while you administer their shock. And remember: always aim for any sweat on their arm for maximum effectiveness.

Obviously, the 4.5 volts is just barely enough to elicit a tingle from someone, but if anybody zaps me with one of these things you better believe I’m going to pee my pants than fake death.

Super Russian Roulette for the NES: Deer Hunt

Last year we checked out Andrew Reitano’s old school arcade game VEC9. It turns out that around that same time Andrew and his friend Mike Dooley were working on another arcade game as their submission to Fantastic Arcade. It turned out to be such a hit that Andrew decided to turn into a commercial game… for the NES.

In Super Russian Roulette, you and up to two other players play a non-lethal version of the infamous game against a virtual cowboy using the Zapper gun. The last person – or computer – standing wins. To spice things up, the cowboy heckles players from time to time with over 100 voiced taunts.

You smell like a leper gnome! Er, wrong game. Pledge at least $55 (USD) on Kickstarter to receive a Super Russian Roulette cartridge as a reward.

Nintendo Light Gun Chandelier Zaps the Darkness Away

Why didn’t I think of this? J.J. Hendricks built this awesome chandelier out of old NES light guns. You know, the trusty old orange Duck Hunt zappers.

When you have a huge amount of light guns in stock and they aren’t selling, you can either sigh and move on or you can build yourself a lightgun chandelier. All it took was some light guns, about 20 feet of electrical wire, 12 candelabra sockets and light bulbs.

He had to install it in his warehouse entry way because like so many of us, J.J. has a wife who just doesn’t appreciate his geek decor, and so she didn’t want it hanging over the dining room table.

It cost J.J. about $200 and took about 15 hours to build. Awesome. It’s like a beautiful geek star.

NES Zapper Modded into a Laser Gun

The NES was pretty awesome back when it came out, but by today’s gaming standards it’s pretty lame. I mean, it’s not like it could actually shoot people with a laser and burn their flesh. Oh wait. Yeah, now it does.

To make things interesting, there’s a 2W+ blue laser hacked into this original 80s Nintendo Zapper gun. You could go duck hunting and cook your dinner at the same time with this modded NES Zapper. A dog may even rise out of the brush and laugh at you.

The gun was taken apart and filled with a 445nm diode, some batteries and some wiring by the people of North Street Labs. This zapper gives new meaning to the name.

Nintendo Zapper Holster for Quick Draw Duck Hunt Games

It takes a serious old school gamer to walk around with his NES Zapper in a holster. Apparently, A.F. 275 is just such an individual. If you also wear a Zapper holster and should meet him on a dusty street at high noon, you’d better be fast. He can draw and shoot ducks faster than any man alive. Or so I figure.
NES Zapper Holster
He made this cool plastic over-the-waistband holster for his Nintendo Entertainment System Zapper. Afterwards he had to range test it, so he ran it through six rounds of Duck Hunt, drawing on each duck from a holstered position and hit every one of them. That’s better than I can do un-holstered.

The holster looks pretty sweet. You might think that the gun would warp and melt under the heat and pressure, but I guess these guns are tougher then they look.
